Fallout 4 for PC available without Steam?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 4:58 am

Any info about if we can get Fallout 4 for PC in a stand-alone DVD install version that does not require Steam?

Thanks!

I highly doubt it. Bethesda uses Steam for DRM, and I haven't heard any plans from them to change that. Even if they don't use Steam, they will use someone else.

Of all DRM-solutions available out there, I really hope they keep Steam. It's the best (or maybe I should say least inconvenient) of them.

Naturally fully DRM free would be nice but most aren't rogues like CDPR.

Well, if they ain′t droppin′ Steam they ain′t gettin′ me money. Just as I stayed with Oblivion I′ll be staying with Fallout 3 :twirl:

DRM only hurts honest customers anyway, and they know it.

DRM free isn't really an option. If not Steam, what then?

So far this statement seems to be true. They started doing this with FO:NV and continued to do so with skyrim. Hopefully this will change but given how recently we've seen bethesda colaborate with steam via the steam work shop and BGS's content, I doubt it will change for FO4

Ah I see. I own the other Fallouts and TESs on Steam but these days with the with the data fees my ISP charges buying a game on Steam essentially means buying it twice when I get my AT&T bill.

As long as there's a DVD install box version I should be good.

I'd like a disk that didn't require a service. I do not care about achievements. But if it had to be a service I will take steam over something horrid like Windows Live.

Sure it′s an option. If enough people boycotted games with that we would get rid of it. Problem is people go along the party line, but we do have the power to change things.

To be honest Steam as a DRM is useless.

No, the real problem are the guys in suits. What they say goes, no matter how many common people boycott the product.

That's why DRM free isn't an option.

The guys in the suits only seem to have the power. If they didn′t sell any games with DRM/Steam they′d get rid of it or lose money. The people always have the power. Whether we choose to keep it or give it away is a choice we make.

DRM don′t stop piracy. It only makes life difficult for honest gamers. It′s not needed and is like Steam the reason I opted out on New Vegas, Skyrim and now Fallout 4. My loss, you say? Perhaps. But I′m sticking to my guns and play the wonderful games that don′t have any of that :)

Well, Steam has made my life easier. No hassle with discs, games are up to date, games are always available when needed, etc.

You can order physical boxes from their website, I believe. As far as steam goes the game is already available for purchase there and many other online retailers. As far as GOG is concerned they don't sell any fallout games currently and that is just about the only place that sells things DRM free.

The game itself is there in the list on their store.

so you prefer to stick to not making your life easier and miss out on good games, no offense but it sounds to me like your sticking to toy guns.

Maybe so, but I don′t want to rely on a website to be up and running or internet access in order to play my games. I know about "offline mode" but I also know it′s not what it promises, at least according to some gamers.

So yeah. I stick to my toy guns and play the awesomeness that are Oblivion and Fallout 3. At least I haven′t forgotten about those :)

Steam isn't DRM, its digital distribution. Makes life easier for the publisher.

The game looks pretty good from the trailer though..... and yes, it looks like yet another iteration of the gamebryo engine.... But then, that means that a modding tool will follow along shortly after release as well. :)

Wonder if it is going to support any newer versions of directx, or if it is still dx9.

Am I of the minority who will not buy Fallout 4 (or will be very annoyed) if it's not on Steam? Just about every game I've bought in the last 4 years was on Steam and if I'm unable to buy it on Steam, there is a good chance that I simply won't buy it.

That's about as likely as Them not releasing a game that has more bugs than a rainforest.

And i don't mind to be honest, i sort of rely on steam because of how much of a fuss it is to travel into the city centre.
