Hate to break it to you but that's as good as you'll get for awhile. At Vault City there's Metal Armor, but the problem I have with it is it has a lower Armor Class in exchange for a higher DT and DR. And it's pricey.

You can also get a combat leather jacket at modoc for free along with an assault rifle. You just gotta save Balthas's kid.

Usually you can buy a suit of Leather Armor MKII in Happy Harry's outside Vault City.

I have a gauss rifle and metal armor now..
Where can I get power armor? I mean I already got a pretty good gun.

I know of two ways

you can go to Navarro and either
A) fight your way through and nab yourself some from the quatermaster
B ) do some quick talking and convince the enclave your a new recruit
C) sneak past them and steal it (this would be really hard never done it myself

while your there grab the vertibird plans and bring them back to the brotherhood of steel outpost in san francisco which will allow you entry into the outpost and nab a suit

OR you can get to san fran and trade for a T-51b suit.

Well no worries anymore, I went to Navarro and suprisingly they didn't call me out as an intruder, I just opened a few lockers and got some advanced power armor.
Now the only problem I have is that I only have 39 HP. Guess I should get some companions, sadly sulik is dead at this point, ohh well. Honestly he didn't help me much.

Thanks for the help everyone, I would ask to lock this thread but I might need help later on...

How the hell did Sulik die? =P But other than exploiting Navarro, you can get normal PA from the Military Base, buy some from San Fran, do a quest for the Brotherhood(which requires you to go to Navarro anyway, but good for a companion) or if you're playing with the megamod(I guess the resto pack too?) you can look the armor from Enclave soldiers with a high enough repair.
