You can play the Windows version on a Mac using Wine.

not trying to be mean, I just want your out look on it, why did you buy a mac?
what key factors did you look at?
What strong point did it have that a Windows system does not?

I just want to know, personaly I have never owned a non windows PC, and I just wanted to know why people buy these Macs and what they see in them?

Well, i am 15 so it really wasn't my choice. at first i was hesitant but it really has grown on me. They are easy to use, have more games than you would think, and don't crash/freeze/get viruses almost ever. Besides, photoshop and my 3D programs run superbly on this machine. i am going to get some more RAM soon though. it's starting to get kinda slow.

Fortunately, Windows versions of FO1 and 2 should work with Wine on a Mac without any problems.

the games is a big point for me, as I find there are more games on windows, but that is just me, the crashing/freezing/virus I can see as well, but I tend to mantain my virus software and drvers pretty well, and havent really have many problems, aside from plain out bad parts like a HDD or a DvD-rom or the like, wand that can't really be fualted at windows.

The programs running faster I can really see, your OS most likely runs a lot fewer programs/apps in the background and is "cleaner" than windows so it takes less ram/cpu speed/force to run, the some PC's running woindows/non windows will most likely be a large gap in speed.


But thanks for the insight, I wounder now if I could find some numbers and benchmarks from the two different PC's and see how they compare, as well as some %'s for crashing/viruses and so on.
I can see that if one is not care full, you could find lopsided numbers ( more windows users = more complaints ) as well, I just kinda wanted to see things the way the other side, but I think it will be hard to find un-biased review's and data.

Even if you get a copy of the Mac versions, they won't run properly on Tiger/Leopard (graphical issues.)

I bought a mac 18 months ago, intially because I wanted a laptop, and I work in tech support, and I was weak on macs. I'm a real heavy windows user, and my gaming PC is a Windows PC. I wanted a "Good Quality" laptop, and the Macbook wasnt expensive when compared to similar quality brands (I'm not talking tell, I'm talking Sony Viao, etc. Plus if it broke, I knew the Genius bar was going to be there. If I wanted to go back to windows, it came with a free copy of Parelells (as a special offer) and Boot Camp was in Beta.

Since then, I've just fallen in love with the simplicity. How do I install a program? I drag the program to my application folder, done. How do I uninstall it? I drag it to the trash, done. My Boss has a mac, when he bought a printer, didnt need to go through any complicated install routine - just plug it in "We've detected this printer, Shall I make it the default one?".

I'll admit that Apple get away with including stuff that Microsoft would be sued for, but the overall experience I just find "less effort" than windows - better for everyday stuff.

Back on topic: Has anyone tried FO1 in DosBox? I know its not as pretty the Windows version?

I can attest to this. I have my IMac set up to dual boot XP, and both games work perfectly. A friend reports that Wine does work.

I haven't tried FO3. Graphics might be an issue.

For the "Why did you buy a Mac" question, I purchased mine when I went back to school. Runs Office better than my Vista box, I can type easier on it, and it just plain works better, IMO. I use my Vista box to play games...just about only to play games. Sometimes I surf on it, depending on which box I"m already on. From the time I unpacked it and was on the net in less than 5 minutes, to now (It's running Ultima 7 as I type this) I am very pleased with my IMac.
