Fallout 3 Freezes

Post » Wed Apr 20, 2011 9:59 pm

Hi, I'm not very good with Windows 7 and I just bought this new laptop. I installed it per usual (but it didn't ask for the key, odd.) and it could install and everything.

However, it freezes occasionally, it would freeze around 5 seconds to 10 minutes into the game.
I've tried some ways of fixing it but it hasn't worked so far.

Here's my laptop specs:

This must be a machine with dual graphics solutions? An Intel integrated chipset for most things to save battery and then an Nvidia GPU for games? Otherwise if it was using an Intel chipset for the game, it shouldnt run at all.

But to fix the problem with it freezing, you have a CPU with 4 threads, try limiting it to 2.

Open up the .ini file located in My Documents>My Games>Fallout 3. *Do not alter the one in the actual game directory labeled Fallout_Default_ini*
In the FALLOUT.ini find the line

bUseThreadedAI=0
change the 0 to a 1

then below it add the line

iNumHWThreads=2

Yes, it has dual graphic solutions. And I'll try the above posted solution, will update in a bit.

This worked for me, thanks :-) (I had the exact same problem with freezing after less than a minute playing).
