Fallout Game Set before 2077

Post » Fri Apr 09, 2010 11:57 am

Not true... There were mutated creatures before the bombs dropped (used in the Army)

It wouldn't be about factions and rebuilding, it'd be about survivng day to day as you try to find a place that could garinty survival for your entire life!

It wouldn't be run and gun, you'd have to make careful choices with what little you have, not walk around blowing survivors heads off (well you can but there should be more to the game)

And (to make it more survival) hardcoe Mode should not be able to be deactivated (for that game).

I made a point about pre-war mutations in another post. They would be in small numbers still because they just got out.

Without factions there are no real quests. Without quests you don't have much of a Fallout game.

Yes it would be about survival. Bombs fall and some how you live without being in a Vault or other shelter. So now you have to find one. So you grab a gun and radation suit and look for a Vault. Why would they open for you? Why would anyone open their shelter to you?

Why would anyone else that survived help you? There would not be that many people that survived in the first place.

Im sure quests could be made without having a faction tell you what to do.

Why would they open for you? Why would anyone open their shelter to you?

and that Mr. Styles is the right question. A question that could be explored in such a game and which would tap into the very fabric of what makes us human.

There would not be that many people that survived in the first place.

There was apparently enough to make a new world and society however. If you read the terminals (as well as holodisks and such) in the games you can see evidence of how people "held out." The germantown terminal is a good example (aid workers and national gaurdsmen trying to survive following the bombs).

Does there really need to be? Im sure some factions could be created though. Just not countries like the NCR. Groups of people who share a common goal however (I'm sure) could be thought up for this setting

There would be no real factions other then raiders and looters and even then it would just be looters in the first few weeks after the war. Only little things like "should I help them?" is not much of a quest. Would be no currency at all just looting an killing after a nuclear war "chaos." Radiation Levels would be very high an you would die pretty much out right.

It would be like a Call of Duty game if anything.

"In two brief hours most of the planet was reduced to cinders" "The Earth was nearly wiped clean of life. A great cleansing, an atomic spark struck by human hands quickly raged out of control." "Humanity was almost extinguished their spirits becoming part of the background radiation that blanketed the Earth. A quiet darkness fell across the planet lasting many years. Few survived the devastation."

If a game did take place just after the bombs fell that would be the only real motive. You are someone with something every importaint and you have to get to this vault. But then again what could be that importaint? Water Chip Idea has beein done and that was 84 years after the great war.

Honestly, I was thinking about writing anew Fan Fic about a family that rushed to a vault before bombs dropped..

I could see a a DLC for some game about a family running to a vault before the bombs dropped but.. yeah.

Please don't use that as an example, it burns horrible pictures of nine year old's that scream every two seconds.

Haha I agree. But I never said it had to be a multiplayer game

Multiplayer is the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear Halo or Call of Duty, it's a built in reaction from surviving the Xbox New Vegas forums.

As I have posted 3-4 times a vault that had decent people sent out a radio signal saying they will keep the Vault door open for a month. All you have are the clothes on your back, a knife from your kitchen, mildly radiated food, and the desire to survive. Missions could be like some travlers daughter was abducted by looters and you can help him and he may give you something of value, or even travel with you.

The game would mostly have objectives. Like "Search the local police station or gun shops for any weaponry ."

And yes there would be a [censored] load of radiation, so?

Radiation adds to the whole survival aspect this game would have.

Who said there weren't going to be any factions? Small communities of people who trust one another count as factions, as could large groups of looters.

And no, no matter where or when in time Fallout takes place it will NEVER be like Call of Duty...

If any vault left their Vault door open, they would turn into ghouls, an example would be Necropolis/Bakersfield, their vault door would'nt close so they all ghoulified within a day.

They didn't open the doors until sixteen days later, they're going to keep them open for a month and then shut them for many, many years.

That would'nt stop the fact that the Radiation around that Vault would be heavy for a while, but they could make a work around that by forcing the player to use Power Armor/an Advanced Radiation Suit Prototype or something.

meh.

I love the Fallout series. I am always caught wondering what the fallout world was like before the great nuclear apocalypse. Just like at the beginning of fallout 3, you would be born; Not in a vault, but in a home in DC. Born in the year 2044, you would experience the world before the bombs fall. You would have choices on your job, having a family, and deciding whether or not to buy a spot in a vault, and using your knowledge on the vaults pick the right one. I believe this should be the next game in the series. Or could this be the next DLC for fallout 3. Leave your ideas and creative input for this game or DLC below.

So it would be another modern warfare fps? I don't think anyone wants more of those.

Erm... I love the idea of starting off in the pre-war days, and literally -living- through the nuclear Armageddon we have thus far only seen the aftermath of.

It doesn't really strike me as being a 'modern warfare fps' in any sense of what has been described. In fact, I'm not exactly sure if you're even quoting the right post. It seems to me like your response... doesn't have anything to do with the content of CivilDefense's post.

I'll have more to say after I finish dealing with this damn navmesh problem of mine!

Love to hear the interesting ideas out there!

Groups organising before the war would be factions. There are many possibilities for groups.

People turned into Ghouls in one day I do not see how there could not be ghouls or other mutations running around causing havoc.

The idea of the whoole world cinders and a quiet darkness, is more of a expression I guess. Those times would be troubled times, there would be people left. Obviously there are enough people left to start rebuilding civilization. Yes there are not that many people and it would be more a game in a world of chaos, but it could be good. It would be a nice change.

I can see it now

A cut scene:

Bombs dropping over the United States and China.
Zooming in closer we see citizens running for their lives as a nuclear cloud swarms through the major cities of the United States and China.

Narrator: The war to end all wars has finally been fought. For centuries men have fought for land, food, and survival. Now that fight is over, the war done... for now. Most of the human race have been extenguished. Not erradicated, small bands of survivors living in underground bunkers called vaults, all accross the country have survived. As well as many who have built shelters of their own. This is the story of The Business Man. A lone survivor who built a shelter of his own.
He has something of Great Value, and he needs a safe place to bring it to. His story is one of tragedy. He will have to fight to survive the aftermath of the Great War, because war, war never changes.

Your Charactor: Wakes up in his bomb shelter, 6 weeks have passed since the Great War. A Ceo of Vault Tech, you had a vault biult beneath your house. Unknowingly you recieved only minimal supplies. Now, supplies have run out. Your getting desperate, now is the time to venture out and try to survive.

You look into the mirror of your bathroom, thats how you make your charactor. To do the specials you look at your magazine rack.

Among your possessions is an advanced radiation suit, a 10 mm pistol with 30 rounds of amunnition, 3 stimpaks and a combat shotgun with only 5 shells.

I think it would be interesting to see a Fallout take place during the war and the world gets worse and worse as the game goes on.

If there's a pre-War game, I think I'd rather see it as simply a team-based FPS/TPS set in Anchorage or something. It'd be pretty interesting. I'd rather not have an RPG set during the Great War; I'd vastly prefer one that would expound upon the existing Fallout setting we've all come to know and love.

About that idea; I don't think there's any way a Vault Tec CEO would be caught off guard. :P Better to just be some average Joe that built a shelter but ran out of supplies.

I think that's a helluva start. But I agree that the Vault-Tec CEO might be pushing it; I also would be bored as some sort of post-apocalyptic Bruce Wayne type. I think that being some kind of bystander that stumbles into this Vault with the CEO could be interesting, like the CEO drags them in off the streets as the bombs come down and then dies from radiation sickness or kills himself from guilt. I dunno.

Some of these ideas are post-nuclear. And besides, if the developers have given serious consideration to a pre-war title, then "has to be post-nuclear" is, well, false. And kind of an insult in terms of "not getting the idea of Fallout". I've played all the games, multiple times except for NV, and have spent a lot of time reading through the Fallout wiki and these forums to get a better sense of the world. But the games are RPGs, and thus we all have an idea of what this world is supposed to be. Try and keep it posi, alright? :foodndrink:

There actualy a planed game that was going to be released by Black Isle (the origanol company before it closed) that was a first person shooter. It took place during The Great Recorce war that caused the apocolypse; it was going to probibaly be the best game ever (in my opinion Black Isle was the best). it was going to be called Fallout: Recorce Wars; it actualy might still be made, but its unlikely.

I can see it now. It wouldn't be an action, chaos game for the first part but a surviving and adjusting life kind of game.

Your character wakes up and goes into the bathroom where character creation begins. (I think it all being in black and white before the war for no reason would be kind of cool) Your character gets into his/her car and beginas driving to work. They're going through the radio channels and noticing there are few people outside when they get to the news channel which is telling everybody to get into a shelter and that the Chinese may be attempting to nuke the USA. As soon as you here those words a city in the distance is nuked, causing a blinding explosion. The objective is changed from going to work to finding shelter. You spin around and begin going back home when a lady calls out for you to come to their shelter. You go and they seal the entrance, seconds before nukes fall on you suburban neighborhood. They ask you about yourself which activates Perks and SPECIAL. For a while it's just small amounts of playing in the shelter with the small family while things become more and more tense. One day the food is gone completely and the woman's husband suggests going with 'Plan B' from being locked in a shelter with these people for weeks you character has begun to feel paranoid so he believes they are planning on eating him. One day the food runs out completely and the husband grabs a knife and comes at you. You svcker punch him in the stomach, grab the knife and run to the entrance.

When you get outside everything is in ruins, radiation levels are high. (About two months after the bobms dropped) You cover the entrance with a bed and a dresser to keep them from following you. You walk to the remains of your car, it's radio still intact. You tune it until you find a broadcast telling everybody that Red Cross has a camp on a highway that your charcter is familiar with. He grabs the map from his car and sets off. Once he gets there he finds the place in ruins, ghous everywhere (but labeled as monsters or zombies, depending on your character's intelliegnce). You see a corpse with a shotgun nearby and grab it before running off. Your character makes his way to the grocery store where he hopes to find food. After you get the basic needs of survival you go back to your home, which has half collapsed. You set up camp there and just live for a while.

Eventually you hear a radio broadcast of a Vault that opened to all survivors. You decide to start heading to it, passing through a a few small towns to reach it, running into looters and mutants along the way. It takes your character weeks of traveling to reach the Vault, which has already closed. You use a radio that a scvenger gave to you in exchange for your chems and communicate with the Vault Dwellers, begging them to let you in. After a while they agree to it, ending the game. It wouldn;t be as short as I made it seemed, your character would pass through many tonws and meet many people along the way, you can choose if you want to tell people about the Vault or not, travel with certain people, befriend certain people etc.

It would be a magnifisent game, as would Fallout: Resource Wars. As a Europian Soldier in Saudi Arabia, a US soldier in China, a USA soldier in Canada, and the idea in Hurricane's post.

Would be awesome games.
