Fallout 4 is going to have a lot of weapons.

This isn't Obsidian, so yeah, prepare to be disappointed again. I counted 12 energy weapon types (6 lasers, 6 plasma). I'm not even sure if Gatling Laser will be added.

Pretty much. A weapon where the barrel and chamber are made from a pipe. Basically, the same concept as a zip gun.

Just as an exercise, come up with 50 base weapons, where things like laser pistol and laser rifle are NOT two different weapon types.

Acid? Heavy Energy Cell? These sound more like different ammo types for a base ammo than being for completely different ammo for different weapon types. Also, where's the source for these?

Heavy energy cell was from POC, Accid was used by the super soaker water gun in Tactics

Oh I thought this was about Fallout 4. Unless there's source that Fallout 4 is using these, it's best not to get your hopes up then.

Ammunition is kind of a funky way to classify base weapons, anyway.

It implies that Laser Rifles, Plasma Rifles, Microwave Emitters, Gauss Rifles and holo rifles are all of the same weapon type.

It implies that a tesla canon is the same type of weapon as a gatling laser.

It implies that a Victory Rifle is the same weapon type as an M60 machine gun (.308 cal and 7.62mm are two designations for the same munition).

Even more interesting is that it implies that the Victory Rifle is the same weapon type as the Dragunov and while the do both fire a 7.62mm round, the NATO round is a 7.62x51mm (.308 cal) round where the Dragunov fires a 7.62x54Rmm round. And if that isn't confusing enough the AK's and SKS's fire a 7.62x39 round. So according to Fallout lore the .308 is different than the NATO round and the NATO round is the same as the two Soviet rounds.

Exactly, it's best not to rely on ammunition as a way of 'possible weapons'.

So what the heck is the assault rifle? It's not an R9 or for that matter any AR I recognize. More like a weird mash up of an M60 and a First World War era machine gun.

"Base" weapons. Does that include the one-time only weapons that are unique and rare? If not, then around the same amount as F3 is fine, plus all of those modifications. All I care about are more rare items so loot actually feels rewarding. Keep the number of base weapons the same, but go a little more crazy on unique weapons and I'm satisfied.

Didn't todd say OVER ...Idk It seems like bethesda really went overboard with everything I wouldn't be surprised if there are a good bit more than 50 ..he has been very coy about all the details...I think we will all be very pleased

51 is over 50.

Realistically it might be around 55.

Plus they have to plan add a few new weapons in the DLC.

Or introduce some of them from prior Fallouts that didn't make it in to F4.

Bro you obviously did not watch the conference. Laser rifle is confirmed to be built from a laser pistol and maybe smg's will be seperate from pistols but be aware that they also used a full auto version of the base pistol. You really shouldn't make these kind of posts while being uninformed especially considering the fact that many many of the people on here have non stop researched every article and gameplay since the announcement, me included.

I can only think what some modders are thinking as release draws.

"Great...so if I release a weapon mod, I need to also take customizations into account...This used to be so easy..."

basicaly I'm going by a coment that had been made else that they had only shown low level low power weapons in the crafting sequence. The impression I got was along the Lines of over 50 levels you will get asses to more powerful cartridges/powercells and each one of those comes with a base weapon you can upgrade. you already saw in the demo video that they took a .38 pistol cartrage all the way to machine gun and "sniper rifle" ....so basicaly your point as far as this system seems to care was null the second you made it.

Also

Note that the plasma rifle uses "Plasma" for Ammo while the laser uses "cell" nullifying another of your "points"

What we need clarification of is "base weapon" like is the laser pistol the base for the laser rifle...is the plasma pistol the base for the plasma weapons ..if so we could be looking at alot of weapons....and more is always better..of anything just more....MOOORREEE....MMOOAAAAAAARRRRRR

Hmm I see your point. I don't think you are giving Bethesda enough credit though. I think you will be pleasantly surprised when the game comes out. In any case you might be right though I think that the laser rifle is not one of the base weapons. Suppose we will just have to wait and see.

The fact is, having a laser rifle as a base weapon is quite illogical at this point.... With the modifications now available, that can turn a laser pistol into a laser rifle, there is no need to include the laser rifle as a base weapon. It would simply be a wasted opportunity to add a new weapon to the game.

Yeah. Well, I love everything that Bethesda is doing but one area where they have consistently disappointed is the amount of weapon, armour and spell (in TES) types they give to players. It's gone downhill since Morrowind, and it was pretty ordinary in Skyrim, so while I hope they deliver on their promise I'm not holding high hopes.

A wasted opportunity? It's not like they restricted themselves to 50 base weapons before they started making the game.

But yeah, I hope the Laser Rifle is not considered one of the 50 base weapons. I think it will be, though. It's probably just clever marketing, where they make you think there's loads of different base weapons, but then the player finds that the number is actually halved because they consider rifles base weapons just as they would pistols.

I would love it if Bethesda threw a ridiculous amount of weapons, with varying degrees of usefulness, at us. But I have a feeling that they'll streamline it (just as they did in Skyrim) and just give us the minimum.
