Fallout 4 is going to have a lot of weapons.

I actually hugely agree on the skyrim thing. I think they shouldn't have done the dual wield system in skyrim and just had more unique spells and allowed you to cast them with a button so you could do better battlemage builds. So far though I have seen some major improvements over skyrim. Hopefully there wont be so many game ruining factors like in skyrim with becoming a god at everything and crafting loopholes and the like. I can see where your worried and I agree that skyrim is not the game a lot of people wish it could be, but I really think that Bethesda is learning. Again I think we can all expect to be pleasantly surprised.

How exactly can you define 'base weapon' to include both the Laser Pistol and the Laser Rifle when they're talking about weapon modding potential if one of them can be modded into the other using the normal weapon modding system? What definition of 'base weapon' do you think they're using?

They could just be lying out their butts, or not have bothered to think things through, but it's pretty clear that calling both the Laser Pistol and the Laser Rifle 'base weapons' would be straight-up incorrect at this point.

As long as it has an in-game context, I'd be for seeing a katana. Maybe it would be a unique weapon that would repair with other bladed weapons (if repair is still a thing). I see you maybe stumbling across it in a ruined pawn shop or museum display or something.

I think you're taking the whole "base weapon" thing too seriously. I think the Laser Pistol and the Laser Rifle are two separate base weapons that can be modded to become each other if the player wishes. Why is that so hard to believe? Labelling something as "straight-up incorrect" is pretty ridiculous at this point.

Im basically hoping you see some revolver guns that can be upgraded.

that said rounds like the 357 and .45-70 can be used in Revolvers and tube feed brush guns and rifles, .410 has been used in Revolvers and at least one gunsmith here in Texas has made a scorpion frame semi auto pistol and the .357 have been used in a semi auto and brush guns.

In the presentation of the weapon mods we can see that the weapon mods add certain adjectives like "short","long","Compensated" etc., resulting in weapons like "long laser pistol" or "short laser rifle" etc. I think it is safe to assume that "base weapons" are the weapon names without the adjectives, in this case the laser pistol and the laser rifle.

Which saddens me, because that means there's 12 energy weapons, not including the flamer section. I mean yes, big energy weapons count is great and all, but I'm looking at the overall weapon count, which is around 50. Just having 12 is over 1/5th and with Flamer added, you could notch it possibly up to 15, which is then 3/10th's filled. Was expecting more, honestly, and judging from the Melee weapons, it seems Unarmed and Melee are going to be very strict in the 'transition' mods, which might mean more variety (which is a good thing, I hope).

It would've been amazing to have 50 actual base weapons and the weapons in the crafting are not included, therefore you could probably have access to over 300 weapon combinations. Instead? Ya get around 50 Weapons with almost half of the mods being 'fluff'.

From the e3 presentation:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unji5X-zl8o

First few seconds: When changing the grip on a laser pistol to be a stock instead, the name changes from laser pistol to laser rifle. Same for the pipe gun, going from pistol to rifle. And plasma weapons. You can even have laser and plasma sniperrifles, plasma casters etc.

I am more worried about revolvers and some melee weapons. Weapons with less "modulable" traits. I want to play with machete/cleaver of some sorts, a revolver (heavy caliber) and a sniper or a launcher if any large weapon at all. This is how I've played in both NV and 3, and hope I can do this again. From another game with weapon customization: In Dying Light, a base weapon is never as good as a modded weapon, "forcing" some kind of battery or flamer etc on the blade you use. Thats cool and all, but I'd like heavy hitting options with a cleaner appearance.

It appears to be an FG42. German weapon.

This? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FG_42
I don't really see the resemblance.

Compare the above weapon with this from the game.

*edit* link doesn't work for some reason but just search "assault rifle (fallout 4)" on the fallout wiki

How many weapons were available in Fallout NV? The quantity is astonishing! Will Fallout 4 be up to that number? I stronlgy doubt on that, if it has the same number of Fallout 3 weapons (and Fallout 3 never reaches NV weapons number, at all!).

well the Todd said it was over 50 *base* weapons, so I guess we'll find out later what that actually means. My best guess is that, say you have a plasma gun. You can mod that gun into a specific role for pistols or change it into a rifle with various mods to that. One base weapon, parts change its role.

I lost count around over 140. My guess? Near 200 weapons in FNV. Guns alone hit over 50 in numbers of weapons, up to 55 I believe, so no, Fallout 4 will have less weapons.

The "Assault Rifle" has a modified barrel, it's called "ported" in the E3 video. Look at the back of it. Almost a copy of the Fallschirmj?gergewehr 42.

While the ability to customize your weapons is very cool and seems to offer a lot of diversity, I'm just hoping to find something similar to the Lincoln Repeater or Cowboy Repeater. I just love lever-action rifles and those were my favorite in FO3 and NV :)

Hey, I've just rewatched the E3 crafting video, and found some interesting weapons:

-Extended Ripper

-Heated Super Sledge

-High Powered Shredding Minigun

-Silenced Combat Shotgun

The last one is the most interesting - how in the name of God could you silence a shotgun? XD
