Your avatar is from the rather grainy photo resembles a member of the Strategic Air Command's Elite Guard(they were specially trained Air Police/Security Police who were assigned to defend SAC HQ).

Here's some background on your avatar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ufj0ZzUYOLk

LOL @ First Strike.

Ivan's missiles were NOT anywhere as accurate as portrayed in that movie. The CEP (Translation: Draw a circle around the target, the CEP is the size of the circle) for the Soviet's sub launched missiles in 1984 was around 1500 meters. Which means, there is a much better than average chance that whatever HARDENED target they had would survive a first strike. That whole movie was nothing more than an attempt to scare people into allowing the US military to FINALLY modernize its nuclear arsenal.

Lets play this game, lets say Ivan pressed the button. Subs would be used mainly to take out comm sites, air bases and very high priority soft targets. Some WOULD be targeted at the Dakotas, but it would be sheer luck if they took out any silos. They'd be lobbing RVs to DENY the US the ability to launch (Even a near miss kicks up a metric crud-ton of debris that could play havoc with a missile) Plus the silos would still have to be sealed until after the blast to protect the missiles.

And one other thing: Once the alert went out, we could have missiles airborne under 5 minutes. WELL Under. The whole bolt out of the blue attack with the Russians was HIGHLY unlikely.

Not to mention the Americans would have subs firing their missiles, have planes about to drop their nukes, and have missiles in the air before the Russian missiles could detonate.

Crazy Ivan didn't have a decent first-strike capability until the 70's and 80's with the advent of more accurate MIRV ICBMs, supersonic bomber-launched cruise missile, long-range SCUDs, and submarine platforms. From 1945-1974 the U.S. would've crushed the world with a first strike. Granted the Reds would've incinerated our power grids with a handful of atmospheric detonations making even a survivable scenario a Dark Age unto itself. Read up on Wikipedia about the effects of EMP from a nuclear atmosperic detonation, a little goes a long way to turning the 1st World into Mad Max.

You forgot Detroit and Selfridge ANGB. Detroit for steel processing and machine tools, Selfridge for the inflight refuelling of any surviving bombers and national guard post-nuclear aid capability.

Selfridge AFB is listed as a primary target, and Detroit as a secondary.

In Ohio I think that was ment to say Columbus, not Columbia. Columbus is the state capital, Columbia is a hamlet near Cincinatti

And blowing up Dayton would be pointless after blowing up Wright-Patt, since they're in the same place.

Anyways, if only a similar list existed for China.

Vancouver is a city in Washington State, I'm not sure why you find that odd?

I live only a few miles away from Y-12 in Oak Ridge. So if even the slightest hint of war I will be gone in minutes.

I would be fine in the primary attack but I live just south of Cleveland so I'd be fried in the second wave, since all highways lead to Tertiary targets or the already exploded Wright-Patterson base . Some of my family lives in Winston-Salem, NC so they would die in the third wave of attacks, but they might evacuate to the mountains since they would have plently of warning by then.

Most of those target lists are irrelevant to Fallout's setting. Keep in mind it's an alternate history and many of those bases were post-divergence developments. That divergence has never been specifically defined, but was set at somepoint in the 1940s. Just as an example, most US ICBM launch sites weren't developed until later then that.

Well according to that long-ass list, the great state of Texas would have been transformed into an irradiated [censored] hole of enormous proportions. I thought it strange that Nasa wasn't on the target list, but with every other inch of Texas bombed to hell, it wouldn't have mattered I guess.

And regarding Alaska, I'm suprised Fort Yukon was not on the target list at all.

I'd say hope you're within 10 miles of those priority targets, then you'll be fortunate enough to be vaporized, leave a permanent shadow, be turned into ash, leave a rad-scoured skeleton, or be burned alive instantly. Screw putting up with 1000 rad background for MONTHS and perhaps 100 counts for years after the bombs go off. Not to mention all the fallout, disease, instant famine, and the immediate collapse of all law and order. Watch Threads by the BBC, they give very detailed narration on what's happening to those poor Manchesterites after the big kaboom. Not me brother, I'm looking the mushroom cloud in the eye, throwing up 2 middle fingers, and eating a .45 ACP.
