Fallout NV never worked for me... I'd love to play it... sounds like I'm getting the ultimate version. I assume that its their version of GOTY, without the title.

it is, but ya just get the ultimate edition, delete all the info, saves, etc from harddrive anything to do with fonv, and then play the game. It was pretty broken when it first came out, but they have done an excellent job fixing it up. Just seems u gotta do it with a "fresh install" lol.reason for deleting the old data is so that there isnt any saved corrupted scripts alrdy there to get implemented.

But ya definetly, u gotta try the game out. Fo3 and fonv great games, and you especially need to experience both of them lol.

But if in the small chance, something does goes bonkers, msg me and I can help ya get it worked out.

Also I came across this lil bit of info as well that helps out with alot of bethesda games for both xbox and ps3 is that u can cut down game freezes and crashes by saving and quiting and turning off console every 3 to 4 hours as well. Something to do with refreshing the ram and cut down on lag issues and bloated save data.

Eh, but anyways, good reading and defintely having fun myself on a current hardcoe fo3 atm. Its tough, swimming in water and I get about 15 to 25 rads a sec, stims go over time, broken limbs actually uses stims plus crutches or surgical tubing and takes a lil bit before it heals up, plus u have to have ur medicine at a certain lvl before u can do that, and weapons pretty much do the same dmg to me as it does to enemys and with my health capped around what enemys get to....yaaaa lol. Dosent help I switched the ambient music to 70s horror ambient, really fits well lol. That seems to have a huge impact, specially when scary musics all around out in the waste, and suddenly u come across a radio thats playing...music definety clashes and creats a sense of peace when it really isnt, like the land is denying to itself and not admiting what horrible situation its in.

I like useing stimpaks only with the wait function (to simulate rest better) This means I never use the sleep function either , but I only stimpak\wait when a bed is present. I typically wait 4 hrs for 1 stimpak , max 8hrs 2 stims, at one time.\

And I dont heal with food\water more than twice a day = 4 items , always out of combat because I never pipboy pause incombat.

However , I do allow myself blood packs in combat put on a hotkey. I figure they'er rare enough to not have unlimited amounts.
And ofcourse I go get the 20hp blood pack perk right away.

I was going to try a few more suggestions here, but at this point, I unfortunately might not be playing at any-core now, because my PS3 version has started putting up a black screen when I exit one place and go to another. Like when I try to leave Megaton. Pretty sad because I'm not even running the GOTY version. I deleted the last few saves, but still does it. Yes, I posted in the bugs section, but seems like nobody ever reads those. What a drag.

Sorry to hear that Dave , But im guessing the PS3 just gets covered up by the PC problems.

Ive nearly no experience with the PS3 but , have you tried deleteing your Fallout3 game data? I hear tell of that fixing some freezeing issues.

Perhaps, save one of your FO3 game saves on to a flash drive and try manually clearing the games cache. Reinstall the game, update and then re-apply the game save.
Or. Try creating a new character, make a save for that one then attempt to load the other save file.

Thanks guys. I dumped the game data. Still did it. I teleported outside the city to someplace, then came back and went in... then after that it seemed to be working again, so we'll see. Hopefully just a glitch and not a full corruption.

Its not a full corruption. That sounds like a cell corruption. Alot of times u can reset the cells in the game by going into a building and then waiting or sleeping for 30 days. It resets all the cells but the enemy npcs will have respawned also.

But the building u wanna wait or sleep in is best to be far away from the area of problems. Like if ur getting ctds at the gate of megaton, u dont wanna sleep in ur house or a building in megaton, ull wanna go to big town or etc.

Guys, about the only carrying 3 weapons rule mixing with only repair at a workbench. What do you guys do when you want to repair a weapon? The other weapon of the same type that you take in order to repair the original when you get to a workbench does still counts as one of the 3 weapons that you can carry?

No, the spare that is used for repair is considered only parts that you will need at the workbench.

I just saw this link via Big Daddy's sig. What a great thread and great discussion. I'm a fan of hardcoring out FO3 as well and saw a few things here that I have not implemented into any of my characters.

-Using a purely barter system. (because carrying your weight in bottle caps does in fact sound ridiculous)
-Replenishing only 40-80 HP from water sources. (because drinking your weight in water in one sitting will make you vomit)
-This is more of a modification to my rule but having the HUD opacity at 1 bar so as to see if I am actually stealing. (I didn't care before but the "glare from the sun" bit was a good idea as opposed to no HUD at all)

Dropping items when broken, especially unique items... unacceptable.

It's hard to do at first, but it's a lot easier as you get used to that idea.

But, mplsBD, unique items... UNIQUE?!

I've dropped tri beams, and hellfire armors.. heck, I've even tossed modded .50 cals in FO:NV when they broke.. but unique items I can not do. However, I did compromise with myself.. I won't throw them out, but I will place them as trophies in my house never to be used again.

I have loads of mods to make my game as hardcoe and realistic as possible. I got a mod that changes a global variable so every weapon, modded or not, does three times damage, and I got Arwens Tweaks that requires you to eat, drink and sleep. RH_Ironsights and Weapon Mod Kits are pretty cool mods to have together. You can turn your Hunting Rifle into a bolt-action Sniper Rifle if you attach a scope onto it. aHud and iHud lets you move and remove HUD elements from and around your screen. My HP and AP will only appear when combat starts. My compass is always on my screen so I know where I'm going. I moved my ammo count off the screen so I never know when I'm gonna run out.

You really need to take cover with these mods. I've just been walking along and Ill see a group of Raiders over the hill, and even at high levels they are a threat still. Its usually safer to sneak past them now rather then go in guns blazing like you can in vanilla Fallout 3, especially if your doing a permadeath run.

I played for 6 in game months without repairing cripple damage in one run through...that was damned hard, just quietly. I admit that I did use fast travel after a while, for the simple fact that it did get tedious hobbling through relatively safe areas.

There's a lot of good hints and suggestions on this thread.

You can get those weapons again on a new character. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I'm glad you are having a fun time with your mods. This thread was for some rules you could create if you don't have access to mods, as in being on the PS3 or 360.

So, first of all, Hello. This is my first post on these forum's. Hopefully won't be my last.

I came across this thread and i decided to try some Big Daddy's techniques out, and i must say i am having a lot of fun so far. I started out by heading to Springvale, Killing Silver, and raiding the Springvale School. I then went to Megaton to sell of the weapons and clothing items i scavenged. I disarmed the bomb, and got my new house in Megaton. I decided to use my 10mm Pistol as my main weapon. I headed out to work on the first part of the Wasteland Survival Guide. I came across the Super-Duper Mart, and managed to not die from the raiders and cleared them out. I found not only food, but medicine aswell. So, i went back and then began by getting radiation poisoning, while listening to Cromwell's rambling's. After that, i preceded on my way to Minetown. I stopped by The Scrapyard to pick up a buddy i could use, Dogmeat. I then went on to Minefield, and a car blew up, ofcourse, crippling my left leg, left arm, and chest. I crawled by way to the building, and killed Arkansas, took his weapon, and i am hobbling as fast as i can back to Megaton. I am level 4 at the moment.

I decided to use the following techniques:
- All trading must equal 0, so I'm not buying anything
- Must eat and drink food more than stimpaks, only use them in dire situations where i am not crippled.
- Carry at most 120 pistol, or 120 shotguns rounds. 240 for rifles and auto weapons. 600 for Mini-Guns, seeing as how he has a packback on his back while using it.
- I can only use a select 3 weapons, either 1 rifle, 1 pistol, and 1 melee, or 2 rifles, 1 melee, or 1 rifle and 2 pistols, or whatever combo i can use a certain point.
- If i run out of ammo for a weapon, i can then switch to another weapon to replace it, once in a safe location.
- Weight i can carry is 150 at max, unless i end up with the Strongback perk, which would increase my limit to 200.
- No perks that give more points to certain skills
- No bobbleheads
- Doctors cure broken limbs and or radiation.
- Never use VATS for combat, i may use it to see where Dogmeat is or if an enemy is nearby, but nothing else.
- No Fast Travel, now if i am glitched then i can, but otherwise, i will not.

My stats are this-
Strength- 6
Perception- 9
Endurance- 4
Charisma- 5
Intelligience- 4
Agility- 9
Luck- 5

So, i turned around as i was nearing Megaton, and i realized Dogmeat was not following me. So, i quickly started heading back to find him, only to find him fighting an Enclave Soldier, only one. So, I, puzzled, quickly put on a stealth boy, take cover with a sniper rifle and shoot and one shot him. I quickly loot and head back with Dogmeat.

Well, i will go back and continue my adventures, will definetly post more as i continue my journey.

Alright, this thread as convinced me to start over lol only playing on hard though, not very hard. going to try really damn hard to not carry extra weapons as loot, just the one or two weapons I will be using as primary and secondary weapons. Will try to stick to the only grabbing ammo if I have the weapon, and no fast travel. Being on the PC for once, I can console comannd my carry weight to a 100, so that should help me with not carrying extra crap. Not using player housing either, so this should be a fun challenge.

using the alternate start mod to skip vault 101, so I just have the vault 101 security armor and a 10mm pistol with 50 rounds. should be fun!

Theres nothing wrong with buying stuff. I think he just meant that the final trade has to equal no caps going back to you. But you will need to buy ammo in your adventures! I just usually stockpile chems and cartons of cigarettes to trade for ammo.

The sniper at mindfield fooled me the first time too, didn't see those traps, or knew that cars could blow up like that lol I'm programmed now to run away fast when I see a car start on fire.

I have OCD when it comes to weapon maintenence, so my primary weapons will never approach the level where they can break. Either repair myself, or visit merchants regularly to get it in working condition. I blame New Vegas for me having to keep my equipment in good condition. The rifles i use normally, are easy to keep in good repair as their counterparts are always on fallen enemies, like assault rifles and hunting rifles (to repair Lincoln Repeater). Not grabbing .44 Magnum ammo until I get Lincolns Repeater is going to be tough though! Had to slap my hand already from trying to pick some up I found.
