I play games on both PC and console. I love my gaming rig but man, I just love the ease of plopping myself in a chair and booting up a game.
I have a htpc hooked up to my 4k 60 inch TV and play on ultra with a wireless xbox one controller. Why anyone would bother with a console is beyond me.
Well, at least FO4 beats Witcher 3 at something.
Ive got a giant fancy gaming rig I bought with the intention to murder Fallout 4. Performance has been terrible in a lot of areas, getting better with tweaking. But a clean 60 it is not, there is still all sorts of framerate troubles in some areas and not in others.
Other people with equally powerful computers but with slightly different setups are saying they have had zero problems and have a clean 60 in every area. Some people say that Skyrim has the same problems of Fallout 4 with poor framerate, but then I have literally never had a problem with it. Some people have also had all sorts of bugs in both Skyrim and Fallout 4 that make me think their PC is a portal to another dimension where bugs like that can actually happen, since nothing like that has ever happened on mine, but no, its completely real.
Stuff like that is why consoles hold the majority of the gaming market. Its not a slight against PC, its simply that PC is something a enthusiast would get. Someone who if he owned a car would want to do the repairs himself. It may be my platform of choice for all sorts of reasons, but I can fully understand why for however percentage of people they prefer consoles.
Pretty much the only thing that would want me to get my money back for the season pass.... so NO for me.
I get stutter in the downtown area.
MSI MS-7821 mobo, Intel i5-4690K 3.5GHz, 8GB RAM, Win7 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 3.9GB
There's this one strategy game that I love playing that I still cannot get to work on my new Windows 8 machine.Ive tried so many solutions that broke it in new and different ways, except for one: Get deep inside the registry and start changing values in some videocard settings that'll fix everything SUPPOSEDLY.
Yeah. I think not. Its a shame since I love Darkest Hour, and all the rest of HOI2s runty little children. Don't think im going to be playing it without consorting with the dark powers of virtual PC though.
I5-4460 4 core 3.2 GHz, 8 GB RAM, Win8 with Geforce GTX 960 4 GB.
Both of our machines are on paper several magnitudes more powerful than the hardware that the consoles have on them. But that's just how games are sometimes.
No, they shouldn't. This game is disjointed in several ideas and concepts already; we don't need another developer making it worse. Let Obsidian do their own [censored], and let Bethesda do their own [censored].
Probably something in NVIDIA's drivers? My stutter is not terrible and not ever present. I seem to recall I turned down some settings and got it to perform nornally, but I then turned it back up and now cannot remember what it was that seemed to fix it.
As for your old games: surely Win 8 still has emulator mode (if that is what I'm thinking of)? Try right-clicking the executable file and see if you cannot run the game in a previous version of Windows.
Back in XP, i actually managed to get Civil War Generals 2, a circa 1985 game to run.
Might try updating the drivers again. I turned down some settings and I get great performance in some areas and terrible in others.
That's more for the tech support forum though, and this is already off topic enough.
Edit for things further added: Oh trust me ive tried just about everything. Compatibility Mode has worked a treat for some other old favourites of mine, like Freelancer, one of the games that hooked me on Open World before Morrowind got me in 2004. Im sure if I worked at it hard and long enough I can figure out a way. There is always a way with computers.
wonder how many it sold on the PS4- i think it probably sold a huge amount more
the Witcher 3 may have only sold a million on steam but it sold HUGE on the PS4- i think i read it sold more than Xbox and PC combined
Glad they are making money though
I think I remember hearing when the consoles were first being released that PS4 was winning by quite a huge margin.
Don't actually know how the numbers are nowadays, but every generation seems to have a winner in terms of sales, its just less defined than others sometimes. PS2, Xbox 360, maybe its PS4 this time? Anyways, if PS4 is selling more consoles than the others then I can see the Witcher 3 having sales like that. PS2 back in the day had so much market strength behind all across the world that its pretty crazy in its own little way.
Consoles do not hold the majority of the gaming market. There are far more PCs and PC games than consoles.
Actually, a few years ago the industry trackers were claiming that portable devices (tablets and smart phones) were beginning to dominate the market for gaming. Very silly, really, because until some device comes along that is "must have" for everyone's personal AND professional life, as well as powerful enough to play pretty much anything plus do all sorts of productivity work, PC will always be the "go to" platform/ And that isn't even considering the fact that PC is open with pretty much no restrictions in content while consoles are extremely closed with loads of restrictions.
of course there are more PC's but consoles dominate AAA game sales. PC's dominate in MOBA,MMORPG,TBS,Strategy and low spec games like Counterstrike- but every AAA game has sold more on consoles. Its basically been like that forever now - whats different now is that its not just consoles combined- its mainly just the PS4 which has somehow crushed the Xbox this gen
Yeah mc858 said most of what I was thinking. For AAA gaming like Bethesda does the console market is always the biggest, atleast from what I read. For other games the console market is small to non-existent. A lot of the strategy titles I love to play would never survive on a console, and thats just the more mainstream ones like Total War or Victoria 2. The more grognardy ones that I have been on the edge of playing for quite some time now I just don't know how you could play it in a couch with a controller.
But you're right. Consoles are locked down, they are Microsoft's and Sony's machine, not yours. That is why I have chosen PC every single time. For small games they can flourish with the openness of the entire platform, for large games they can be modded to create so much more content. As I said, the best way I can say it is a enthusiasts machine. They can do so much more if you are willing to put in the time and the effort to understand them, but for a lot of people gaming isn't something you should be investing time and effort into, and I am happy that consoles exist because it absolutely allows the more, eh, casual as much as I hate that term to enjoy gaming and spend their money on these games and that lets the entire thing grow more and more.
What are you on about? Fallout 4 is going to get a bunch of GOTY awards.
for me- its all about preference
I game on PC with Fallout 4, but mostly its for indie games and strategy games. Games like
-Prison Archetect
-Rimworld
-The Total war series
-Dont starve
-Cities Skyline
-The ANNO series
-GOG games
you catch my drift....everything else AKA- the BIG titles- i get for consoles
What really baffles me - and ill use Star Wars Battlefront as an example - what baffles me is that the game sold (im making this up but the disparity is as real as what im about to say) - it sold 2million on PS4 and 1.5million on XBOX and PC combined- YET the online players is like 100k on PS4 and 50k on the other two. How the hell does that even happen lol. Im wondering how in the hell 2 million buy an online game and yet the player base online is like 100-200 thousand. And this isnt the only game this has happened with.....it just baffles my mind how the hell that works out
No, not Obsidian again. With Chris Avellone gone (lead writer of Fallout: NV and almost all of it's DLCs) Obisidan should not get their hands on Fallout again. And it was and still is the writing, the story telling, what makes New Vegas. That's not going to happen again without Chris Avellone.
yea that svcks that he left- Obsidian made Fallout better. Obsidian was the old Interplay guys that created Fallout. In my perfect world- Bethesda would keep making Elder Scrolls and Obsidian would make Fallout.
I'd much rather they take their time and get it right (as right as a Beth game can possibly be) than rush it and wind up with another mess like Skyrim.
Make no mistake, I still enjoyed Skyrim, yet it oftentimes felt rushed and half finished. It was something I just could never quite get past. Fallout 4 has, so far, from what I've seen, been a major improvement in this area...I just wish they hadn't chosen to do the whole father/son deal again. IMO it really highlights a real lack of creative thinking there. Perhaps it may be time to bring in some fresh new writers who can come up with a different sort of story for the next (FO) game.
can't afford a console? they work great, not sure what planet you're on but my xbox one plays my games extremely well and very consistent, xbox's last a long time, no burning out video cards, they're stable for games, most people have a pc that can play games, its by choice people use consoles, i like my xboxs, they're versatile and not one of mine have ever broken and iv'e had some for 7 or 8 years and they're still working, i give em away, so you can bash em all you want but there's some very good reasons people use consoles. everything works, they are built for gaming, the games are designed for them and pcs all vary, consoles basically don't, i see tons of people on pcs with all sorts of gaming issues that i'm not having on my xbox.
to be frank and no disrespect intended o am pretty fed up as a pc gamer to be called the master race or similar stabs
considering my family background i would even find it offensive
why should i buy a console anyway for 100 euro more i can buy a good pc that can run games pretty well and ussually better quality than any console
