General consensus =/= 5 editors at a given gaming site.
Oh, I agree Bethesda needs to be the standard of quality in the genre, but I personally think they still are. Fallout 4 is my favorite Bethesda game to date, and I've been playing their games on PC since Morrowind.
All I'm saying is that if you think getting the equivalent of B+ or A- from reviews and THEN shattering all known sales records for a PC game, to the point where they don't have to take a cent off full price and still outsell all the other games on Steam ... well, cash speaks louder than words, and that's what they'll listen to.
Honestly, while I love F4 more, maybe Witcher deserves the GOTY. It is a beautiful game after all and I did enjoy it. That and the regular releases (included in the package) and the patches that actually worked beautifully definitely made it worth my time.
To me, honestly, W3, moved the bar for AAA RPG games. It's going to be hard to compete.
This. Also no other company has ever come close to matching BGS in creating an open world game.
I think that speaks more about the company than the game itself. The company has a great work ethic. They certainly set the bar for video games company, and that's not even subjective in any way. The game itself is subjective since it's more about personal enjoyment.
Well, general consensus among a majority of gaming publications and literally any user review poll or aggregate. I actually can't find one where FO wins, except at only FO specific sites or boards. When is the last time a BGS game was pummeled like this in the same exact genre? I'm 100% sure this is the first time.
I only do this because I am a BGS fan, and I don't want this happening again especially not with TES,

Agree.
I don't think there is anything in this exact same genre. Beth pretty much stands on its own in its own genre.
Others can try, but they're not Beth.
Open world RPG is the same subgenre of those two games. I guess you can say every game is its own specific genre if you start counting company specific gameplay mechanics.
So true, the stats at the very start of this topic clearly shows Bethesda's total dominance
Dominance in sales. I don't think I can stand a 7.5 mediocre Elsywere that gets stomped by CyberPunk.
You're talking about a lot of factors, considering the game has a lot of drastic changes that hardcoe fans dislike like voiced protagonists, something I enjoy immensely, power creep, etc. On the internet, the people with the strongest complains will be heard the loudest. People who satisfy with the game have nothing to say usually. Also, a lot of people like the company behind the Witcher due to their practice, something I greatly suppot as well. Skyrim when it was first released had a low scores and a lot of complains. I honestly don't know what the "this" you're referring to. What makes this game not as good as Fallout 3 when they give a lot of depths to their characters instead of just cardboard characters like Skyrim?
Nobody actually likes that game, it's just obsidrones and codexers using any excuse to [censored] on anything Bethesda releases. I have friends who hate bethesda a lot, and I don't really mean that they hate bethesda games, I mean they hate bethesda as a company and in extension every game Bethesda releases and every decision they do. Some of them even used to like Fallout 3, but something happened after 2012/2013 when they started visiting certain sites they said "their eyes were opened", and even though they are too young to have played old games they praise them as superior despite never actually playing them, they kinda changed their mind and their tastes too. They no longer enjoy Bethesda games, and a bunch of other companies, but their hatred is bigger towards Bethesda for some reason.
What I am telling you is 100% legit. Some of my friends even come here, they are young and energic to spend a lot of time trolling with a righteous purpose in mind to defeat the evil Bethesda. And they are the reason I registered in these forums. So most people who prefers Witchers 3 they do so in spite for their hate towards Bethesda and Skyrim. Witcher 3 is a linear game more handholded, where you play the same way from the beggining to the end, limited exploration, no interaction, a [censored]ton of useless fillers, terrible combat, awful AI, it's only biggest features consist on the plot and the graphics. You take those things off and the game is [censored] boring [censored]. The game has a lot of less features than bethesda games, and if you compare The Witcher 3 with the kind of games Bethesda games are usually compared to TW3 lacks the exact same problems if not more. It doesn't even have dungeons, and gameplay wise it's always the [censored] same, follow a bunch of yellow dots, talk to a random NPC, follow some red lines to fight the crap, and repeat forever, except that you have some overrated story on it.
And this will not change, from now on they will come here to apply their "justice", it will happen to every Bethesda game, it will happen to Doom 4, it will happen to Dishonored 2, and it will happen to the next TES. The only thing we can do is wait until they grow up a bit more or they finally end up commiting suicide after they become aware of their terrible sad life of unsuccessful achievements. They relate more to losers like Obsidian because Obsidian reminds them of themselves, they never feel related to winners, they feel related to losers. Some of them will start hating Witcher 3 in a couple of years too, such is the way of life.
Just ignore them, I hope Bethesda does too, Bethesda has to listen to Bethesda fans, not to Obsidian fans or the teens that visit sites that promote P:ST as the template for all RPGs.
Skyrim released with stellar reviews and I believe the highest scoring and most awarded open world RPG of last gen.

Clearly Obsidian and Codex has payed off over 90% of gaming publications, nearly every forum poll, nearly every user review section of nearly every site.
You guys are going to turn BGS into the next George Lucas.
Lets not have a repeat pummeling when TES6 vs CyberPunk comes out.
In the beginning, I don't think the scores were that high, even then, there were a lot of complaining about the control as well, and how the story svcks. You still basically haven't said about why this game is bad.
I wouldn't doubt there is more comparison because most people who enjoy the game would rather play the game instead of complaining about why their game is better like people care. I'll probably gonna see enough of it on ME anyway. Enjoy what you enjoy. If you have suggestion then just say it in a respectful manner, saying how Bethesda could improve the game is better than raving about how Bethesda and Fallout 4 svcks and how Witcher is so much better.
Me thinks you put too much stock in other peoples opinions.....and you know that hey say about those...
I'm gonna repeat. No company has ever mach BSG when it comes to open world mechanics. BSG creates dynamic open world environments with a plethora stuff to do and places to explore. Most if not all other games are static, empty, and void of a real content out side of the main story or side quests. It can take hours to go from point a to point b in a BSG game, while in most other games its a straight shot there with no stops along the way. Now when it comes to other game mechanics we can debate who does what better but not when it comes to open world.
What does that have to do with anything? For a Beth fan, a 7.5 Elswyr would be preferable to a 10 CyberPunk in most cases.
Beth fans tend to be rather narrow in their preferences.
I'm very picky myself (not strictly Beth, but I don't ever extend myself to the Japanese style games - FF, etc..., or to any shooters at all other than F4).
I love Beth, but, you know, there are other games out there.
I still have not played the game. I've been patiently awaiting delivery of my new PC for a month now. Not real happy about that. It's now in Fairbanks and will probably not be delivered to me until after the Holiday. So...Monday at which time it will more than likely be another few days to a week for formatting, updating and downloading the portion of the game that does not come on the disc. (My internet speed is very low).
But I currently have 4 grandkids here and I gave one of them a copy of it for his PS4 and I've not seen them come up for air, food or anything for several days now. I think I've made a mistake. Should have waited for Christmas.
I gifted the game to my brother on Steam since it was on his wishlist. He is now not returning calls, and has taken the rest of the week off work. I think his wife is going to kill me at Christmas dinner....
Give her the game as well, you bought yourself at least a month to escape to Canada.
Oh no I am not bashing consoles. The post I was replying to said consoles are good because of the convenience and comfort of being able to plop a disc in and play on your tv while sitting on your couch. I was just stating that I do the exact same thing with my pc. It his hooked up to my tv in the living room, I control everything wirelessly and play with a wireless xbox controller. As for performance, I do play on ultra with 60fps, no stutter. I do have a few bugs, the worst being the difficulty reverting to normal when I restart, but I fixed that by making the prefs.ini read only. I have not found a bug that has impeded any progress at all.
I do prefer pcs to consoles because I do like to have the option of tweaking settings and using mods, for example. I also enjoy the fact that the games do look and play better than on consoles. Sure, my graphic card costs the same as a console.
I wonder what their total sales have been now. Apparently they did quite well at launch.
