Fallout 4 has no theorycraft as the predecessors...

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2016 11:57 am

The problem with this game is that it has no theorycraft. There is no science to rule the balance and, for this reason, many aspects RPG have no sense. It is a pity. It would require a hack to streamline the gameplay. It would be great in the next chapters of the series have the option to play the game so easy or so more reasoned, more "RPG". In Fallout NV he had done something similar.

Yeah I am not really getting what you are trying to say. Theorycraft sounds more like one of those Minecraft mod packages.

Theorycrafting is basically creating creating a build on paper, DPS calculations s, etc. In other words, the OP is saying that they dislike the way the game was "dumbed down", and that it should have had a choice between a "Casual" setting and a "Real Gamer" setting. It's just been filtered through Google Translate or something similar, since the OP presumably doesn't speak English.

Yes and you have this in FO4, some VAT builds are insane using various synergies. heavy weapons+ demolition expert give 4x bonus to fatman and missile launcher and the exploding minigun.

Did not know of any of this for FO3,

However lots of the theorycrafting in MMO like ESO is pretty buggy, assuming that any proc happen on time.

Yes gear who let you refill 40% of your magic every 20 second if hit by melee attacks sounds awesome and was seen as the best gear in the start.

Except that it would not help in most boss fights where only the tank get hit and its light armor.

Its the maths and science behind character builds, equipment and skills, and particular how they interact with one another.

Made up numbers ahead: if one weapon gave you 5% to energy damage, and another weapon gave you +500 energy damage (flat 500 to energy damage, not a percentage), what weapon would be better at lvl 50?

* You get more energy damage from that 500 at level 1 than you do with +5%, but does the 5% scale higher than the 500 at level 50, so it actually works out to being 600 damage?

* What happens to those numbers if I take the 'Increaaed Energy Pool' skill?

that sort of thing. There are some games where theorycrafting is a big part of the experience - Path of Exile, for example is huge on theorycrafting. Fallout 4 isn't really that sort of game tbh.

imo, FO4 is a big failure, in all aspects of franchise concepts, Betheseda ruins everything instead to make a GOTY, following the concepts and the root fondation of franchise and i am speaking from the point of view of one seasoned fan, not hardcoe one that expect to have in FO4 all elements from previous games, evolving in one master piece.

But no, if i can say that, it is like Leonardo di Caprio, if you can get it :-) ... do not expect theorycrafting, FO4 had the premise but they mess up to attract young and Destiny players in a marketing segment and to maximaze the profits during holidays not to do a solid game based on Fallout franchise.

What is a Destiny player? And if Fallout 4 is a failure I can only imagine what a success looks like.

cool down ... it is a sort of speaking, mate, i hope that i don't offend Destiny players ... as i've said, from the point of view of Fallout fan, i've expect different approach and different results, an example is this topic subject, 90% of actuall players of FO4 doesn't have an ideea what is theorycrafting, maximizing DPS in Fallout 4 as RPG ...

I'm surprised that someone would be bold enough to claim that 90% of RPG players on a Bethesda forum don't know what Theorycrafting is...

But yes Skyrim, Oblivion, and New Vegas all had great Theorycrafting depth. Obviously it lends itself more to the fantasy setting/role types of Elder Scrolls better, but it is something I missed here. The most damaging ranged weapon is the most damaging ranged weapon, and the most damaging melee weapon is the most damaging melee weapon. No synergy, dual wielding etc to speak of outside of VATS builds.

Well you still got to take height for ballistic, radiation, and energy damage along with perks. Also legendary guns have different stats which wields different results. In time there will be alot of theory crafting on Fallout 4 aswell.

well, in this thread there is an example, let me reformulate, everybody knows that it is theorycrafting but how many players played theorycrafting's mechanism and concepts, games like FO4 are out of depth and understanding the meaning of theorycrafting gameplay.

FO3 had some elements of theorycrafting but imo the last game that i've played like that was Neverwinter Nights.

After all, theorycrafting is a style of gameplay, a anolysis, best strategies and tactics to maximize player effectiveness which in FO4 is resumed to some scripted quests and locations where to find a better gun, better armor ... jump in a power armor and shoot everything is not a theorycrafting, maybe i am wrong and maybe i have played different Fallout franchise in past years but FO4 is a mockery in my opinion

These definitions of theorycrafting sound an awful lot like min/maxing, which was never something I enjoyed in games.

To those claiming there is no min/max play or underlying "models" to be discovered, you should play the game with the intent to explore it and less the intent to dislike and criticize it. You should also open your mind to the idea that, it is not merely weapons and direct mediators of DPS which can figure into an optimum build.

Give me a pipe pistol a couple of garments to boost my END and AGI and Chemist perks and I'll take on your claims of "No Theorycrafting" any day.

Go play the game, and see you are wrong in every way. Come back and tell us when you get to ~500 hours logged.

Min/maxing is a newer term. Theorycrafting stems from the good ol' D&D paper days and other old RPGs. I think min/maxing came about from the original MMOs? (could be wrong there).

It's not for everyone. I get a LOT of enjoyment doing run throughs on Skyrim with this, and after my 5th character it was what took the majority of my time to do in that game. I liked to "roll" a Paladin and use self-imposed restrictions like only focussing on 3 Primary Skills (Heavy Armor, One Handed, Restoration in his case) and playing it in the typical way. Being a jack-of-all trades Dragonborn can get boring and lack focus which is why I enjoy it.

Kind of. Its about calculations and efficiency, and optimizing your character build. But somet6imes its about creating something unique and individual, because nobody had thought iof it before.

Its more common and popular in multiplayer games however. Theorycrafters tend to flock to those because of the competitive and controlled environments. Thats where the challenge for them really is - to create a build within certain confines and have it be effective.

Fallout isn't really a theorycrafters game.

I've played Dungeons and Dragons since the 1977 "2nd Version" and to the best of my knowledge I have never heard the term Theorycrafting until this thread. Not saying it is false, as the apparent meaning does remind me of early tactical combat games and D&D in particular. But the word itself might have been coined at a later stage.
