Fallout 1 & 2 Help Resources

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:58 pm

After seeing the large number of ''Help with quest x in FO1'' or ''strange colour patterns in FO2'' threads being created in the forum, I have decided to create a specific help thread aimed at answering all the questions you may have regarding the original Fallouts.

The majority of problems such as car bugs, distorted colours, and so on, are usually adressed by these patches. Therefore it is highly reccomended you install them first before playing.

Note: It is highly reccomended you read the game manuals if you are unfamiliar with the original games. The game mechanics and interface are not exactly complex but not very easy either. I got stuck once without reading the manual and gave up on Fallout 2 for years. It will take you 2 minutes and you WILL be grateful for it.

Fallout 1

  • Patches:
    - 1.2 by Team X (must be installed first) can be found http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1076
    - 1.34 by Team X can be found http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1075
    - Note: These are the latest patches. They are UNNOFICIAL. However, they include all the official fixes plus numerous other fixes.

  • Manual:

  • Walkthrough:
    - By Per Jorner of NMA: http://user.tninet.se/~jyg699a/fallout.html

Fallout 2

  • Patches:
    - http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=704 (Latest)
    - Restoration Project 1.2 by Darek of NMA and many others: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1097 (See below)
    - Note: Killap's Patch includes all the official fixes and over 800+ other fixes. It is the LATEST patch. Restoration Project 1.2 is technically a mod, but includes all the fixes in Killaps Patch, plus content originally planned for the game but cut out due to time restraints. If you want the full Fallout 2 experience, then this is HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!

  • Manual:

  • Walkthrough:
    - Also by Per Jorner http://user.tninet.se/~jyg699a/fallout2.html

Fallout Tactics

  • Patches:
    - Available http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=210

  • Manual:
    - Available http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=204

  • Walkthrough:
    - Available http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=209

Specific Bug Fixes:

  • Refreshing Black Screen Problem (Fallout 1 - 2)
    - Having to move the curson about to 'clear' or 'refresh' a constant black screen on your game? Solution is http://translate.google.ru/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.labo-asso.com%2Fphp%2Foutils%2Ffallout.php&sl=fr&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

If you have installed all these lastest patches and still have questions, then visit the troubleshooting section at http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=8 However, do read the stickies there before posting as most problems have already been solved. Also, note that this particular link applies ONLY if you have the lastest patches installed. If you do not, I reccomend you install the latest patches as outlined above.

Enjoy Fallout :)

Very nice. Quick question, because I think it will affect a lot of people. What versions of FO1 and FO2 are on GOG?

Thanks.

Im not sure, but I can say they will not be the lastest ones as these are all fan-made patches.

All the patches above ARE the lastest ones, and will work over any ''official' patches that may have already been included in the games you have purchased.

Would probably be a good idea. Will look it up with some mods/admins.

Probably best to not confuse the Restoration Project with a patch, which is easily done how you've presented it. (and i thought it was by Killap?)

For unofficial patches you need to be linking to http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=704

Also, might i recommend you format this into separate lists for each game? Im finding it difficult to read as it is.
eg

Fallout 1
  • Patch
  • Manual
  • Walkthrough

Fallout 2
  • Patch
  • Manual
  • Walkthrough

Fallout Tactics
  • Patch
  • Manual
  • Walkthrough

Questions:

I installed Fallout,on Vista, and it works fine, except i experience random crashes what is causing this?

I installed Fallout2 and Killiaps restoration project,Vista OS, following the instructions sometimes i get blurred stat numbers or weird colors on enemies during their turn,or the opening movies are a blur, but not always, why is this?

Using Vista does Fallout and Fallout 2 install to my hard drive, using the default installation,or is it using up my memory?(Actually this is one that i am curious about).

Why are the first two games so hard?I'm level three and the junkies in the den are too much for me to handle! :brokencomputer:

Corrected. Thx.

As for the RP project, it is the latest in 'original' Fallout 2 development, and it is inclusive of all the latest patches. I have added a little tagline there for greater clarity though.

The crashes are strange. I too am running it on a vista and experience no problems. Try the troubleshooting section at NMA (linked in my original post) and see if they can help.

The original Fallout's instalation depend on what instalation option you chose. Humongous generally means it will be running from your hard drive.

As for dificulty, it may have something to do with your character build. Which skills have you tagged, what is your agility/strength, etc. You will find unlike Fallout 3, your character build matters A LOT. Fallout 3 is also very very easy compared to the previous 2 games. Also depends on what weapons you are using.

I'll try that.

I chose humongous also.I just recently installed Fallout2 on my computer, and installed Killiaps restoration project, and chose the harddrive but every so often the game craps out with a message that memory at X could not be accessed. When i installed Fallout i kept getting a message that there wasn't enough disk space despite having 200 GB of free space and the installation was around 250 MB.

Oops sorry.I was making a lame joke at the difference in difficulty between the first two games and the newest installment to the series. My bad.

Since I have heard nothing from the mods I have decided to give the thread a little 'bump' seeing as questions related to it continue being asked.

Nothing at all? They should at least reply. Possibly try again, or maybe even PM an admin.

The tactics links are wrong ;)
Making a directory linking to another directory is bad form. It would be better to use direct links.

Patches: Official, http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=210

Manual: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=204

Walkthrough: By Guiler, http://www.the-spoiler.com/STRATEGY/Interplay/fallout.tactics.1.html
