Fallout 4 idea...

Post » Fri Oct 23, 2009 1:57 pm

I'm not sure if anyone has thought of this or posted an idea like this.

I'm guessing in Fallout 4 the world is gonna be bigger. With that in mind, a faster way to get around would be to add a Hover Bike! It would be a quick ride, and you would be able to get off and explore anytime you want.
You could buy the schematics at a shop like Craterside Supply and put it together like weapons. It would look like this... http://i40.tinypic.com/352ps7d.jpg ...but not as nice. it would look like a piece of crap like all the cars you see on the road in fallout 3. You would have to repair it like guns and clothes or it will get slower and eventually break down until you repair it.

Not a bad idea on it's own, but I think it'd be starting to get away from the overall feel of the Fallout universe. Pre-War tech didn't include anything that hovered, so I think it would be a bit out of place to find a working hover-anything out in the Wastes. If they made the game large enough to warrant a vehicle, and balanced the game accordingly to make use of one, I'd be all for a vehicle of some sort. But I think in keeping with the theme, we're talking about a jerry-rigged hunk of metal that needs constant maintanence to keep running. (Fallout 2 had a nice use of a vehicle in the game, but I also think it could have been done better...)

I can see a hoverbike making sense as it would certainly make it easier to navigate all the rubble. I think it's just pushing the envelope a bit much.

Just my opinion, though - I just prefer my post-apocalypse to a bit grittier than that.

(I do like your idea about needing to repair it and such, I just think I'd prefer a more low-tech mode of transportation.)

How about riding a lawnmower around the wasteland? It could act as a weapon as well as a means of transport! Or you have the ability to build the hoverbike from scratch, so it is unique to every gamer.

Wrong. The Mr.Gutsy and Mr.Handy models are prewar tech, and they hover.
They were first created in the 2040 I think. While slow, it's not unlikely that the technology was enhanced in the following years for daily use such a hoverbikes and such

maybe somehow the technology would be a little bit more advanced (maybe involve the Brotherhood of Steel?) and it wouldnt be hard to picture creating such a bike. itd be a cool idea though!

Pretty cool idea...I guess Fallout 2 had a car, why not a vehicle in Fallout 4? I'd have to see it's implementation before I decided if it worked or not though. I also think if there were to be a vehicle you shouldn't be able to get it until at least half-way through the game. This also opens up a whole other can of worms like "Can Bethesda figure out a way of tying in the main quest with the side quests to keep people from racing through the game too easily as they can in Fallout 3?"

Okay, you have hovering robots, I'll give you that. But I've never come across any wrecked cars or cycles that looked like they hovered.

My opinion still stands on this, though. I think a hovercycle might be a good idea for a videogame in general. I still don't think it's a good fit for a Fallout game, however. It still feels like a bit too high-tech for something the player would be able to get his hands on and make regular use of.

I don't know, maybe if you have a large number of possible vehicles you could eventually tinker with and get running, and one of them was a fancy hoverbike and it was a part of a high-level sidequest to find it I think that would be okay. Like if you start out with a bike that you could hardly keep running for long enough of a stretch to make it worthwhile. Then you eventually find a car that someone has managed to cobble together. And you keep finding upgrades and better vehicles, and eventually you can find a rare hovercraft so that you really appreciate how high-tech it is. That would work, I think.

I think that a UFO should be flyable in Fallout 4, but it may destroy elements of Fallout lore......

Mr. Handy was created in 2037, Mister Gutsy in 2077.

A mode of transportation might not be a bad idea but I think a hoverbike would be a bit high tech for the wastes. Some kind of regular, jerry-rigged wheeled or tracked vehicle would be much more apt for the feel of the game. Something you gotta put together yourself and maintain well.

You could even go so far as having some sort of animal introduced into the game at one point that you could train and ride on. I'm sure there are very few horses still alive post-war, but then again there were NO Brahmin, Yao Guai, Deathclaws or giant Mole Rats pre-war. So I'm sure they could come up with some type of horse anolog for you to use as your transportation around the wasteland.

Because quite frankly, as much as I use it, and as convenient as it is, I don't really like the "Quick Travel" feature. It just doesn't feel right to be able to zoom almost anywhere on the map instantly.

And hell while you're at it, the lower cost vehicle choices could include things like bicycles that are man-powered. Because how much gasoline are you gonna find in the wastes?

The vehicles in fallout don't run off of gasoline. They run off power cells or atleast the Highwayman in Fallout 2 did.

Right but the point is you'd be going low tech here. Which would probably mean throwing together some hooptie and using an old internal combustion engine from like a lawnmower or something to power it.

It'd be quite a task to get one of the power cell using vehicles up and running again.

Electric power cells had only just become viable to the average (high earning) consumer. Conversion kits still cost a heck of a lot of cash (which given the economy must have been a wreck with the lack of oil would have been even a smaller proportion of people than today).

Most cars are sitting with empty tanks.

Ooh! Ooh! And you could totally pimp it out so that the rotating blades are in the front instead of underneath! Like a really greusome buffalo plow!

I would go for that.

I agree. Remember that those robots are only carrying their own weight: it would probably be harder for a hovering device to carry the weight of both a vehicle and the person inside it.

Anyway, I like the idea of building crude vehicles from scraps. A hoverbike seems a bit much, though.

If they make a fallout 4 and thats a big IF there should not be any cars becuase no one had any technology except for computer terminals and the robots and really thats it.. Like what they said in the DLC they were desperate for more technology

I cant believe this ..

Maybe a bike? definitely no "vehicles"

Maybe, Fallout 4 is in a new area not mentioned yet, where they find horses, possibly mutated?

And maybe, the ability to upgrade skills to run faster?

Im tired of crawling everywhere, when in Oblivion you could eventually outrun horses.

Of course, not THAT fast but, faster.

Ok, stop. Just...stop. Let Fallout be Fallout and TES be TES, please.

In the official artbook, there is concept art of a very large molerat being used as a mount. I think that would fit the theme much more than horses.
