http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/interviews/a654353/fallout-4-interview-todd-howard-talks-mods-in-game-building-and-map-size.html#~pgB0anOOZGhC1V And other things. Todd Howard on favorite mods:

"You know I have lots. I'm really careful about not calling them out, because I don't want to judge and say these are the one Todd likes, but generally the ones that change our art, I lean away from. I like ones that use the tools, scripting and AI, to make the game do something that I didn't know it could do. You know, changing one of our textures, yeah I get it, but if you say, 'Hey we made characters, they now do this, here's a thing you can do that you couldn't do before', those I really, I love them. I'll play a lot of those. We spend more time looking at those."

Aw, he knows we'd go crazy if he talked about his favorite mods... I wanted to know :c

That's great, just to read that sentence about "I'll play a lot of those (mods)." puts a smile on my face

From the interview:

What does this mean? O_O Does this means that settlements will have impacts on story/have their own quests?!

If yes, that's it, I'll buy this game no matter what.

I imagine that it means that if you want a house and spouse, you have to build a house. And course you can't have your house attacked ... if you don't have a house.

Not much in the way of news lately but I did stumble on this recent, brief http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/07/04/todd-howard-wxplains-how-skyrim-bugs-should-improve-fallout-4s-wasteland.aspx from Todd Howard about how Skyrim's technical problems improved F4 and future titles.

When asked about lessons learned and how the development team has evolved its practices for Fallout 4:

揑t probably took us a month or two before we really had a handle on it,?he says. The team had to decide how it was going to identify problems before it could figure out how they happened or why they surfaced at particular times.

揂ll of the updates we did on Skyrim, and all of the DLC ?once we sorted [the bugs out] we had a different process for how we checked the content out,?he says. 揟here will always be some problems.?Howard says that figuring out how to deal with those issues is the trick.

揑 think we抳e gotten way better there,?he says. 揊or us, [the player抯] saved game is the number one thing. If the game crashes that抯 bad, but it is nowhere near as bad as someone抯 saved game being hosed. That抯 our scenario that we will do anything and everything to avoid. We made a lot of progress given how Skyrim went, but we did it during Skyrim. This just builds on that." -Howard

probably not big things

i heard that hearthfire came with quests, but those were just little chores like 'a nest of rats moved into the basemant, go kill them'

probably like that, maybe a tad expanded (raiders have kidnapped your trader, go free him, etc), but no impressive story arcs budding out of towns i'd guess

Well I played Hearthfire, and to me, those chores are more of a hassle -w-'

Nevertheless, still expecting for something big or moderate though...

Very good information, definitely Fallout 4 looks exciting. I can't wait to see the improvements in the shooting mechanics. God, they were atrocious in Fallout 3 and New Vegas lol.

Breaking news!!!

Fallout 4 interview: Bethesda's Todd Howard on building the apocalypse - The Telegraph - Todd Howard - 7th July

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/video-games/11723096/Fallout-4-interview-Bethesdas-Todd-Howard-on-building-the-apocalypse.html

Why is this breaking news? Here's some quotes to help everyone understand.

"The power armour suit that was featured in 4鈥檚 reveal trailer, for instance, was drawn in 2009."

"Howard says that there are times that your gender will 鈥榖e important"

"And it鈥檚 interesting because she may read things or act things differently than he does. So scenes play out differently depending on whether you are playing the game as male or female.鈥?/p>

"If you鈥檙e good at aiming, says Howard, you can compensate somewhat for lower stats. But not entirely, as Fallout鈥檚 myriad systems are layered on top of the improved action."

"Fallout 4 is set 鈥榤ostly after Fallout 3 and, while remaining tight-lipped on story details, Howard says that the goings on in Boston and the mysterious Commonwealth Institute were hinted at in the previous game. Boston itself has 鈥榯he right mix of American history, Americana and hi-tech鈥?that make for the ideal Fallout location."

"Fallout 4 is set 鈥榤ostly after Fallout 3"

"Fallout 4 is set 鈥榤ostly after Fallout 3"

"Fallout 4 is set 鈥榤ostly after Fallout 3"

"Fallout 4 is set 鈥榤ostly after Fallout 3"

"Fallout 4 is set 鈥榤ostly after Fallout 3"

"Fallout 4 is set 鈥榤ostly after Fallout 3"

"Fallout 4 is set 鈥榤ostly after Fallout 3"

There you have it guys its after Fallout 3 hahahahahahahaha I was [censored] right!

"In 4, VATS allows the action to continue at a very slow pace. 鈥淲e found some ways to make it a bit, not a ton, but a bit more dynamic,鈥?says Howard. It鈥檚 very, very slow and you鈥檒l see the percentages change because the person is moving behind or coming out of a wall. So queuing up the shot at the right time matters. And while the playback is happening, the criticals are not random, you assign which shot is the critical one and you load up that bar. So it鈥檚 a little bit more under your control, not a lot, but just enough to make it feel better."

"The crafting is not integral to the game鈥檚 campaign, but Howard insists there is 鈥榓 lot to it鈥? 鈥淚t鈥檚 optional but it is big.,鈥?he says. 鈥淭here are missions for it you can decide not to do, but there is a whole system for it and a story reason for it.鈥?/p>

I don't get it. Did someone think it was going to start before Fallout 3?

There were quite a few threads about theories relating to Fallout 4 being based at the exact time or before Fallout 3 this has to do a lot more to do with the lore then the gameplay. For example the Brotherhood of Steels involvement in Boston, seeing NPC's from Fallout 3 and lots of other stuff so not really gameplay related but more lore, story and quests.

Waaaaaait. "The game opens in Boston in an alternate 2075." Hm? Didn't the bomb drops on 2077? Or am I misunderstanding something?

The answer 'mostly after fallout 3' still doesn't really answer any of those questions. Did he say mostly because the beginning of 4 takes place before Fallout 3(pre-war) or because Fallout 4 takes place right after the main quest in Fallout 3?

We can only assume he meant after the events of Fallout 3 but before broken steel orrrrr within a year after. Its rather ambiguous.

I thought it was I who should decide how my character reacts and reads things!

Voiced protagonist, married with a child backstory, and now this.

It sounds less and less like a customizable protagonist, and more and more like a set protagonist with customizable appearance.

I'm becoming less and less interested in this game, sadly :shakehead:

I think what he meant by it was more to do with male to female, male to male, female to male, female to female talk for example as a female I'd say something differently or with a twist then I would to a male in some circumstances so what he's getting at is 80% of the time it'll be the same but 20% of the time there'll be a little twist in how they say it to better represent how as a male or female would talk about that selected topic. Hopefully you get what I'm trying to say.

Kind of like a 3D visual novel with shooting between scenes.
