...this is amazing, thanks for this compilation.
Having read the article, I thought he was saying that there were differences in the way the two actors read lines or act scenes. So, basically what actors do when the director is happy to get a good performance rather than a pre-conceived performance.
Yes, it does take away some of our choice in how our character says things... but in Bethesda's games that's never been a true choice anyway. I could imagine my character saying a line with exaggerated and sneering sarcasm, but the NPCs only ever heard the tone of voice with which the designer had written the line - usually deadpan sincerity. Your character couldn't say a line laughingly, hurtfully, in bewilderment or with earnest conviction unless that was the way it was written for you. You just chose the line.
So while this highlights the lack of control we have over our character's personality it doesn't actually reduce that control, and we have as much (or as little) control over our character's choices as we ever had.
I agree, it does do more to break the illusion of control over our character's personality, and for some (maybe a lot) of people that's going to irretrievably break the sense of immersion and investment in that character,
Loved everything I read in that interview, particularly the line about how it's mostly one developed product instead of 3.
I wasn't indicating flirting but with the lady killer and the other perk i'm forgetting that plays into it too. Also its not really advltery if your a widow or a widower.
Who gives a [censored]? If you don't wanna be an advlterer don't.
At the moment its speculation but from what we're lead to believe our spouse is dead since we're the lone survivor of the vault. If I thought/saw my girlfriend die and after I awoke from cryo after several months or a year I'd be ready to move on. Or for some it would take less. I just think we'll have more of a clean slate after the prologue.
Exactly you can be who you want to be your values can be different to someone elses you can be an evil bastard or a paragon of virtue, you can be a player or you can be single partner person. Role playing game its more dynamic then linear and since everyone is different what they'll want to do is different. For example I maybe an advlterer in the sims but I'd never do that to the person I love in real life.
No RPG lets YOU (i.e., the player) decide how the character reacts and reads things. RPGs are there for you to play a role within the game world. If you do not want to play a role and only want to be in control of everything, create your own game and a new genre where such a thing is a basic element. I don't think you will ever finish such an undertaking, though, because it is impossible for you to create a game where all players are free to create the character(s) they want and have their character(s) act and react however they want.
A 3D visual novel with shooting is exactly what Bioware made with Mass Effect and Dragon Age (the latter with sword fighting and magic casting rather than shooting, but whatever). BGS games are not that similar to Bioware games, thankfully, although the latter certainly are successful and fit a certain niche of their own.
Anyway, it only makes sense that communications are different based on appearance. More specifically, communications differ based on the subjective perceptions of the participants with respect to how they perceive each other. Gender isn't the only fact, but it's probably the only one we'll see right now. There is also age, race, socioeconomic status, and many others, so it would be nice if a company develops communications that vary based on several factors. Things could get too complicated for such a development life cycle, though (i.e., too expensive, as BGS games are already very expensive to develop, taking years of effort and expense without releasing other games in the meantime).
Just a typo, and he means alternate compared to our world.
Watch Mad Men.
The America of the 1950s was hardly a bastion of puritanism and I don't see Bethesda taking away player choice.
Besides the spouse has a good chance of being dead and having raiders and radscorpions chasing your ass, would keep you firmly in the moment.
That's almost disappointing. It might've been fun to spend two years (obviously with huge time skips) in the past.
The pre war intro is going to be 10 or 15 minutes long at most.
I'm figuring a lot of people will be floating on the Nile for the next four months.
I interpreted the words "read" and "act" differently; I interpreted it as "how the character reads situations and other people" and "how the character acts in the cutscenes". Which seems strongly personality-defining to me. But you are probably right that it refers to how the voice actors read the lines. I certainly hope it is.
Now this is just boring.
Newsflash! (And sorry for interrupting the... Spicy debate -w-')
Here's another interview with Todd Howard! (Got the link from another thread: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1526212-new-interview-from-todd-howard/)

Ooops I think I didn't read the... Spicy debate all the way -w-'
Sorry for being a slowpoke!
Not sure it counts as news, but apparently Fallout 4 got 'Best of Show' at http://www.gamecriticsawards.com/winners.html.
I think the person writing the article got the year wrong (or we have a hoax from hell)
Once again I doubt your spouse will still be alive and I don't really think it reflects the values of Bethesda if the spouse was alive, the player knew about it and decided to have intercourse with another character.
Thanks regardless don't be afraid to post again with links as I'm bound to miss something.
I have to update that list so thanks for the link.
