Fallout 4 Launching With Black Screen Then Crashing

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 7:01 pm

Hey,

So today I bought fallout 4 from steam and I eventually downloaded the game, I launched it and everything was perfect, I just had to exit the game to lower the graphics. I did so and re-opened fallout to see that I was getting a black screen followed by the game instantly crashing. The strange thing is, is that I managed to open fallout 4 twice after many attempts without the error only to find that after I quit the game and re-opened it, it gave me the black screen once again even though I didn`t change anything.

I have an Intel Core i5-4440 CPU @ 3.10Ghz

Intel HD Graphics 4600

8GB Ram

You don't have a dedicated graphics card to run this game under its minimum requirements I'm afraid.

Minimum
Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 GHz/AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz or equivalent
8 GB RAM
30 GB free HDD space
NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent

So I cant ever play fallout 4 unless I get a new graphics card?

Also I did manage to play fallout 4 as I mentioned, yes it was on very low fps but there is a mod that removes shadows and makes the game perform quicker and I plan on adding it after I fix the black screen issue

That's right. Before you make a PC game purchase make sure you meet the requirements. This has always been the case on this platform.

Intel graphics with these games have always been something of a crapshoot - sometimes you can get the games to "run" (as in, on lowest settings and with very poor performance), and sometimes (usually) they just won't run at all. The newer Intel chipsets are better than the old ones, but none of them were intended to be used for playing games. You need a dedicated graphics card at least as powerful as the minimum required to run the game.
