Fallout 3 Mantras

Post » Wed Jul 07, 2010 5:00 pm

I was thinking today that I have set rules, or 'mantras' if you will, for certain situations that I always follow throughout the game.
The first I learnt very early on in one of my first ever gun battles - 'Don't use cars for cover.' :nuke: Due to years of mastering Ghost Recon 1/2 where cars are a godsend, it took me a while to condition myself to this one. :grad:

Another one is 'Leave no stone unturned.', which is basically a reference to a time I knocked over an upside-down wooden crate and found a Guns and Bullets inside. It's to remind that anything could be anywhere.

So do have any little rules or insights you live your Fallout lives by?

Shoot first, ask questions never. Dead bodies don't talk, just give up loot.

My mantra?

I will find more ammo.
I will find more meds.
I will find more food.

I wake up in my latest makeshift campsite, look in the shine of my metal plate, and say,

I will find more ammo.
I will find more meds.
I will find more food.

And because I’m in the wastelands, necessity has forced a shortened version – “I’ll finemore ammedsfoooodd (and maybe a weapon?)”

Thanks mpls big daddy; I incorporated your ideas about no fast travel and caps equaling zero at the end of each transaction, and I’m having the greatest fun I’ve had in a long, long, time.

I’m playing my second “unarmed” (with small arms/explosive backup) character and just found “The Shocker” for the very first time. I’m diligently searching and exploring areas I haven’t seen in months, if ever!

The Mantra:
The Lone Wanderer wakes up and says to him/herself, “you’re special, people like you, and I like myself” (shout-out to that clueless, weenie, Stewart Smalley (aka Al Franken)) I will find more ammo; I will find more meds; I will find more food….I’ll finemore ammedsfoooodd, (Ii’,mmm sspeeeeecial!)

Search everything and everywhere.
Just an extra 5 minutes of searching an area can result in a great deal more ammo, caps, and other usefull stuff being found.

Just because it looks like a rock does'nt mean its not a corpse.
There have been a lot of times when i saw what i though was a rock but when i got closer found out it was a corpse, earlier there was two enclave and an outcast dead near each other but at first glance they all looked like rocks due to their black armor and it was night time in the game.

If you can get it home take it.
Even though i don't often use big guns i'll still pick them up if only so i can repair it with 3-4 other weapons then sell it to a vendor later on.

If it shoots at you shoot back.
Pretty self explanitory.

1. I don't get better at being sneaky, the eyesight of enemies decay

2. As trapfinder, it's not a matter of if you will lose appendages, it's a matter of how many and if they will grow back <----------Is or closely resembles the flavor text on the Magic card Trapfinder's Trick.

3. Do what I must because I can

Rule #1 for Feral Ghouls: Always blow their heads off.

(Otherwise they come back for seconds due to the MMM mod raising them from the dead if they're still mostly intact.)

I have 5 set rules when i embark on my wasteland journey.

1. Don't trust anybody

2. Shoot anyone that has a red marker.

3. If you don't give me what i want the first time, i loot it from your corpse.

4. If an NPC calls me a name, he dies.

5. No NPC is allowed to tell me what to do.

"Then how did you do any quests"?

I told myself what to do.

P.A.S. = Plan - Anticipate - Seperate

Oh and Never take hits or damage which can be accomplished if you're good enough utilizing the P.A.S method =)
