Fallout 1: Master Mutant

Any pointers on taking this guy out? I've been able to kill him once but then was killed by his remaining guards. Every time I've tried since I end up dying because of critical hits doing 80-100+ damage on me in one shot. I think if it wasn't for these I would probably survive, as I have about 10 super stimpacks and 15 regular stimpacks. The only weapon I have that I have any chance of hitting with is my power fist. What should I do?

I've killed him 3 or so times and in all of those playthroughs I was wearing Hardened Power Armor and I didn't see much damage being done to me. Granted, once he killed me right off the bat with a critical hit but otherwise it's an easy fight. For weapons, I killed him once with a Gatling Laser, once with a Turbo Plasma Rifle and the most recent time with a Flamer I think it was.

So I'd suggest getting power armor and a hefty gun to take him out.

Could stand behind the pillar and pop out for 1 hex, shoot him, pop back in, wait for his turn to be over and repeat.

As to the guards coming along, no idea, explosives?

With high EW and Turbo Plasma Rifle a couple of good shots and he's dead, never had much problem before.

Oh and level up to top level and get the Sniper perk if you really need to dish out some damage.

Takes a bit of grinding though.

Have you taken the preperations necessary to talking him to death?

I'm wearing Hardened Power Armor so the normal turn damage is bearable; it just seems I'm getting hit with an abnormally large number of crits which are making have to reload and keep trying. I'd like to think that eventually the random numbers will go in my favor and I can take him out. I don't think there's a chance of talking him to death because I already killed Morpheus, since he attacked me on sight. My only decent skills are unarmed and small guns. Unfortunately, I'm only carrying a power fist and a couple of energy weapons. If I try to use an energy weapon on the Master or his goons it's about a -60% to hit chance (plasma grenades are -70%+). I'm currently stuck with punching it out. I think I'm probably just having a lot of bad luck with the crits being done against me. Is there nothing I can do that will reduce their chance of getting critical hits? I guess I'm just keep trying until I succeed!

Note: the first try I made after writing this resulted in the Master getting a critical hit for 117 points on his second shot. I'm level 15 with a max 104 hit points.

What is your PC's Luck Stat? [just curious.]

Alternative:

If your PC has a high Science skill, (or the key from the Lieutenant), you can just arm the Nuke and run.

Luck is 7, so it's probably the player with the bad luck, not the character. :)

OMG that is awesome!

I'm usually way too weak to take him out so i'd suggest alternative methods like using robes for the military base and cathedral as a disguise and either siding with master or finding an alternate method for him to reconsider his plans (talk to vree in the brotherhood about this) this is presuming you are just trying to finish the game.

As for combat i'm not sure sorry
