Fallout 4 Melee

Post » Thu Oct 25, 2012 7:12 pm

I don't know about anyone else, but I always felt the melee combat in Fallout was so boring. It lacked the serious impact of the weapons and felt like whatever I used had no weight at all other than the number it was given. Now I heard that Bethesda was working on a FO4, and I have one request, make the melee system work like Dead Island.

The fighting system would work well in the Fallout universe since there is limb damage, but make the damage realistic, I don't want to be able to remove a limb with a lead pipe, but I do want to see the limb break and flop there. And I do NOT want to see someone be able to use that limb if I poured half a clip into it, or bashed or sliced it 4 times, it isn't useful anymore.

I know the game isn't based in a whole lot a realism, but it would help a lot with immersion if someone took a baseball bat and snapped a kneecap and that person falls to the ground, but is still shooting. Or you break an arm and the enemy drops their rifle and pulls out a pistol to make up for the unusable limb. It would also make the player feel like they need to use cover more, think about engagements so they don't end up with a broken limb.

Also, bladed weapons should take off limbs of course, but blunt should not, they should just break limbs, and say a bladed weapon takes off a leg mid combat, I would like to see the person live, but still fight until their health drains out from blood loss damage, or you kill them. I hate games that make the missing leg an instant kill.

Anyways, that is my request and opinion on how melee combat should be, it would make Fallout 4 amazing.

We have a thread in the Series part of the Fallout forum for suggesting Fallout 4 ideas: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1418956-fallout-4-speculation-suggestions-and-ideas-thread-92/page__pid__21695654#entry21695654

Yes we have a topic for this but I must ask.. Are you talking about all Fallouts? Or just Fallout 3 and New Vegas? Because I find melee and unarmed to be great in Fallout and Fallout 2. Not so much in Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Well New Vegas did add in special moves, those were an improvement for the FPP gameplay at least.

I agree with what you say. Tried doing a melee character, but got bored - special moves or not.

Although I would like to cut off a leg of a raider and he'll stop fighting back. Like he's lying on the ground, screaming and holding his bloody stump until he dies. Or crawling away from you, and then bleeds out.
Or if you damage someone down to low health and then knock him down or something, he could plead for his life. And you could decide to kill him or not. He could either be grateful, or try to shoot you in the back. Could depend if you fight a psycho raider or just an angry civilian.
