Fallout MMO was already made....

Anyway, it's really just a ripoff of Fallout...maybe more like fallout tactics in the fact that its more tactical.

You'll see that it's a Russian made game...but it has been mostly translated to english (with a decent amount of bad grammar stuff).

But it doesnt take a genius to figure out how to make an account and log in. You just need to get to the combat to see how it's pretty much taken from fallout.

if you are talking about fonline then you are wrong, fonline is technically a whole new game since it doesnt even share the same game engine. Image

Yeah, I believe FOnline just uses Fallout 1&2 data while they had to rewrite engine (don't think they had source to modify it lol) to make it usable with multiplayer.

It would probably have been like extremely more work to use f2 engine and make it multiplayer based, making a new one lets you have all the control of how it works and you can design it from the beginning to be multiplayerbased :P Image

I've played it quite a bit and I can confirm that the game was reverse engineered. It also requires you to own FO2 to install it, so classifying it as a mod is appropriate I think. They did quite a good job as combat is very similar to the originals, but you can tell that it's not exactly the same. (Some small details are missing and the order of things is mixed up a bit. Also, it doesn't feel quite the same.) They've used the original artwork, music, and sound effects as you can see if you play the game, but they're also including some original 3d models to replace the 2d animations from the originals. Right now I think it's just rats, desert stalkers (a new critter) and one or two others that are in 3d, but they're planning on making npc's and weapons in 3d as well.

It's pretty fun, but as someone else mentioned, the English translations are laughable and there aren't many quests anyway. It's mostly about player to player interaction. The game is also extremely buggy, but it's free, so why not check it out? (Be warned: it is extremely difficult in the beginning.)

yup, they are going to replace all characters with 3d models, me and some other guys over there have been doing some weapons (I cant say that they are the best looking :P but we had some hard restrictions like polycount etc) but haven't been much news about that lately :( Image

Its a fallout 2 Mod, because it requires the Files from Fallout 2 to run. Yes its a whole new engine.

Now if your saying that Fonline is its own unique game; then Bethseda has the right to sieze and stop it immediately. Its just a Mod because its simply a rehash of material from F1 & F2, and I don't think gamesas is gonna put a stop to them because I'm sure it helps out the sale of their "Fallout Trilogy"

Interesting! Speaking of mods... did anyone ever play the 'Wasteland' mod for HL1? Was pretty much Fallout the 1st person shooter. I remember it being pretty fun. You'd pick a weapon set up, of which you'd have about 1 or 2 spare magazines for. Usually ended up running out of ammo, so had to either hunt down a new gun, or duke it out in melee. I remember they had the 10mm SMG in there, was a great weapon!

from 2238 dev
Keep in mind, Fallout 1 and 2 are - regarding FOnline - totally different games, even if the optic is nearly the same.

The FOnline engine is 100% written from scratch. You can create every possible game with it and even sell it after.

meaning that they are not dependent on the things from fallout 1,2 but they do use many things from the .dat files, this is not hidden info, its easy to find.

The game is based on the same engine as fallouts 1&2

This is wrong. The FOnline engine has nothing to do with the original engine. It just looks like Fallout 1 and 2, that's all.

It also makes people think, that FOnline == Fallout 2 engine, which is wrong and we have to correct and prove this at least twice a month. :p

the game is a beta of a mod

FOnline: 2238 is not a mod, it's a own game.

There, not a mod. Take it up with the 2238 devs if you want to. Image

I'm unsure about that, check around the FOnline 2238 forum, since they belong to fallout 2 there is a chance that you will have to buy (I recommend buying since its really cheap now ^^ but I'm not forcing anyone :P).

But my best advice to you before you start to play is READ GUIDES ON THE FORUM! since the game will slap you in the face and then the players in it will probably molest you while you are laying down :P They call it: the wasteland is harsh, and i can confirm that the it is... but the players in it are ever worse...

So check out the forum and look at the guides so you know what to do in it before you play. Image

Another MMO nicknamed Fallen Earth is kind of a rip-off of fallout to be honest and borrows a lot themes, but either way it is a good game. Image
