Fallout 3 Modding Interviews

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:42 am

As we've done in the past with Morrowind and Oblivion, I'd like to hear your input on what modders should be interviewed on Bethesda Blog in regards to their contributions to the modding community. Might be slow on the onset, but many of you are already making fantastic contributions.

Anyways, if you've got a suggestion, post the member's name here.

Considering you never did interview them for Oblivion, the OBSE-now-FOSE team (well, you interviewed Scruggs, but that was before he joined them). They've really hit the ground running here.

I second the OBSE/FOSE team.

TTT has already been interviewed: http://bethblog.com/index.php/2008/12/31/modder-interview-thetalkietoaster/

Thirding the FOSE team, although waiting for the v1 release would probably be best. I'd say Nib for Enclave Commander or Martingen for MMM, but Martingen's already been interviewed for Oblivion, hasn't he?

Yup the FOSE guys pretty much have to be one of the first. As Talkie says though perhaps when the full v1 release is done.

There are a lot of teams out there currently working on mods that haven't even seen the light of day, much less been announced. I'd say stick with those that people are interested in and using, and interview their authors. And keep an ear to the ground for new WIPz by modders from Morrowind/Oblivion when they pop up.

I agree the FOSE team should be interviewed, as should Xod (I believe he did an overhaul which is popular). We all know and love Mart, so he would be a good source to ping too. I would also suggest Talkie, DarN, and Kathrin.

Other than that - wait and see who pops up..

I agree. FOSE/OBSE. They've made huge progress in modding.

For Fallout modders: Nib, His Enclave commander mod has gotten great responses and it's really cool and innovative.

**snip**

I will not razz on you for tooting your own horn because I do enjoy your work and modelers are at a premium in this community (+1) but so are real programmers and you have shamefully forgotten the name of (imo) one of the greatest and most contributory individuals to grace us with his presence(-1). I couldn't imagine playing Morrowind, Oblivion or Fallout 3 without a mod manager and up until I got MGE I had given up Morrowind but was born again. Never again forget the one, the only, the legendary

Timeslip

He was just interviewed recently. http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=852825&st=0

I think it would be perfectly acceptable to re-interview anyone after a year has passed and they are modding a new game to boot.. A great many things change in the course of a year, especially in this community. With that in mind I second all of your other recommendations though.

^Show some humility would ya Giskard Jaysus.

Well, this is why I personally find the interviews as a whole rather distasteful...

Here I thought by way of your first post that you had a change of heart. Maybe you did and Jaysus soured you again? At any rate I do understand where your coming from and respect your position.

However it is my belief that these interviews are somewhat of a catalyst in our evolution as an online community. They provide the average player and amateur modder insight into the process of modding and more importantly they help to reduce the "anonymity factor" that seems to cause some individuals to disrespect, dismiss, and devalue others simply because they are just a name and an avatar.

I can't speak for anyone else but I personally have felt very much more connected to this community since getting to know some it's members intimately and that goes double for some it's more illustrious members via the BethBlog interviews and residency on my site.

I can't help but want to know more about the people who populate and propagate the greatest modding community in history.

Oh, and 1000x thanks for creating such an extensive base for the GECK Wiki.
As a gaming company you are unparalleled and I look forward to our further evolution.

List of modders already interviewed:

As stated in the title description, please do not post interview suggestions here. Use the Oblivion Modder interviews for Bethblog http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=853053.

He's been doing a lot lately, +1.

qzilla is post for post one of the most helpful people on this site, he has helped so many others to accomplish their ends that he deserves a public introduction for that alone. One hell of a community player with a very sharp mind and he's a pretty nice person to boot. I'd like to know more about anyone as righteous as that.

Another vote for qzilla. He's everywhere on the forums, and very helpful. He's also got quite a few things cooking. It would be an interesting interview.

Elminster, for creating Fo3Edit, Fo3Dump, Fo3View and Fo3Trans. And the same programs for TES4.

Loup Sombre has some of my favorite mods for oblivion, not sure if he's ever been interviewed. Some of his are incomplete, but are some of the most creative on Tesnexus. He won't be modding for FO:3 anytime soon if at all, but is still active on his Oblivion stuff when he has time.

Look at the Youtube for this mod he is working on. I don't think I'll be happy if the next TES doesn't work in first person body meshes, like Sombre is. Well. . . I'll be happy with it I'm sure, but still. This stuff is great work.

Why not me? I'm cool =P

On a more serious note... Why not some of the more obscure people on the forums? Surprise some of the new people, see where they came from, how they got here, what they think of Bethesda moding as opposed to other moding (If they have done any). You could come up with like 5 or 6 generic questions ask like 4 or 5 people at a time. As it is, most all the "major" people have already been hit.

But I'm sure ElminsterAU will give us good interview answers. He helped me a lot with explaining Records and subrecords and he made those great programs.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll get cracking on these, though I've got some other projects I'm working on.

I'll likely put a priority towards folks that haven't already been interviewed.

Cheers

I second that! ElminsterAU for interview!

What I would like to see is interviews of the people who modded the game before GECK was even released. TBH, some greatest innovations were accomplished back then by "the pioneers" hacking away with their HEX editors.
