Is fallout 4 more stable then skyrim? Crash to desktop wise?

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 3:22 am

I have fallout on xbox but i am going to be buying it for the pc version aswell.

Now i have some questions for the ones that jave it on pc.

Does it crash to the desktop alott lioe skyrim did?

Skyrim had a memeory limit, once it was it, it crashed to the desktop, is fallout4 the same or is it better?

It goes down once in a while. Skyrim when it came out was worse, that's for sure.

Vanilla Skyrim crashed more frequently for sure, until fixes were added. Fo4 crashes rarely, but for some reasons it my graphics get FUBAR if I pause the game for long periods of time... I mean, like 4 or 5 minutes and the graphics are scrambled.

In 150 hours of Fallout 4, I had a single crash to desktop. I did get lockups twice while exploring Hallucinogen although I don't know if it counts or not.

In 150 hours of Skyrim I cannot count how much CTD's I got nevermind the freeze ups. This is with all the patches and the Unofficial DLCs...

Performance wise in terms of FPS, Skyrim is kinda of better though.

I have played fallout 4 for over 250 hours on the PC and I have never encountered a CTD.

However, once in a while the game stops responding when loading a game. It probably have happened 6 or 7 times.

It probably depends on a number of factors.

Not everyone would have issues.

When i played Skyrim I came to it late so can't remember it being problematic.

With Fallout 4 I get regular crashes.

Especially when it's raining in the game.

I get repeatable lockups if i go a certain way at some locations.

I think it's at those areas of the game where different data might be loaded as you cross certain points dependent on if you are doing a quest there or not.

Initially I would crash to desktop then a new video driver came out and my pc would become non-responsive instead.

Probably a combination of software and hardware compatibility problems.

Anyway i have learnt to press F5 a lot especially when it's raining.

Fallout 4 is FAR, FAR more stable than Skyrim was at release.

I have 280 hours in the game, and only twice has it exited clean to desktop. And they both came quickly after each other.

I think Fallout had more crashes but i really dont care. The Crash takes 1 Sec, to restart the Game maybe 10 or 15 Seconds.

For me Fallout 4 is remarkably stable, much more than Skyrim. In Fallout I use F5 because I'm often killed so quickly, in Skyrim because I get crashs regularly. In defense of Skyrim I have to say that I relate the crashes mainly to the use of high-res textures and an ENB. My PC is some years old, i7-3400 with only GTX 570 and can run FO4 with very high to partly extreme graphic settings and medium sight distance.

I think so, fallout 4 has crached once I think had another hang, main issue is gaus rifle hanging in scope mode forcing me to quit.

300+ hours, never crashed once. In the FO/TES series it's the most stable game, that's for sure. The mere fact that overclocked CPUs aren't an issue anymore is a huge plus.

edit: as for the memory limit, it's a 64bit executable, so no worries in that regard

As far as crashes go, i think it's about the same for me (quite few).

As for general bugginess, it seems better for me.

So good that i don't think BGS deserves reputation for making extraordinarily buggy games anymore. Now they're just the "dumbing down people" :P :bolt:

Skyrim had more of heavy graphics to load. Sometimes FO 4 don't load saved game propely so I need to stop the process and re-start game. Worse crashes I got when I'm in settlements and npcs are "confused", either looking for beds/stools so they just turn around and walk random back and forth in groups.

Cheers,

Steam is only showing about 40 hours for Fallout 4 but I know I have quite a bit more likely 150 hours and it has not crashed and no issues with loading screens. Only a couple small bugs like blood bugs falling through the ground including a legendary one other than that it has worked well. Likewise on the Xbox One I have not had any issues except for the brief stutter from time to time in about 40 or 50 hours of game play. Your millage will vary. As for me Fallout 4 might be the stablest of games especially at launch. Likewise Fallout 3 was quite stable at launch as well and has become the most stable of the Bethesda games for me.

Skyrim and Oblivion are a mixed bag depending on the computers I had it running on. Oblivion the best I can hope for is to get about 4 hours or so straight gaming time before I have a issues with the game. Usually a restart fixes the issue. Skyrim is quite stable at least for my newer computer unless I am in the middle of testing out some mods that I might be interested in playing with.

For me, Syrim reintroduced the bluescreen of death at release. Frequently.

With FO4, I have my occasional CTDs, but so rarely that I often forget to save.

It is a hell of a lot more stable than Skyrim was on the Playstation 3 after 2 months of that coming out for it.

But seriously, I have had about 4 errors on the PS4 so far. Not that bad.. though they do have a habit of happening when you have forgotten to quick save in a while. :banghead:

My experience with Skyrim was that I started to get CTDs after about 20 hours of play. Not a lot, but enough for it to be a consideration. In 230 hours of Fallout 4, I've had 4 CTDs and one occasion when the game became a slideshow upon entering a building. Considerably more stable than Skyrim and Fallout NV (and probably FO3 too, although it's been so long since I played that game un-modded that I can't really remember).

On my system, Fallout 4 has been the most stable Bethesda game I've ever played. Not saying it's been bug free, but from a crashing perspective it's been pretty solid.

I've had one crash in over 100 hours of game play, which is pretty remarkable. For all its shortcomings, Fallout 4 is definitely reliable in terms of performance. I won't compare it to Skyrim cause I had modded the hell out of that, which made it crash regularly and I don't remember what Vanilla Skyrim was like.
