Fallout movie in development?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:47 pm

I hope it's about Fallout 3, not the other Fallouts.

If that were the case then the movie would have a "dead end" with no possibility of sequel, unless of course you buy the expansion movie pack "Fallout 3 - Broken Steel" ;)

But seriously, you would need to play the other two games to understand. The original Fallout set the stage of a sheltered Vault Dweller going out into the wasteland and becoming a hero that saved the vault, but could never return to his/her sheltered existence because the wastes have ultimately hardened and changed that person that his or her return would cause an irreversible stir in the once stable vault community. Fallout 3 borrows that concept and so much more from FO1 and 2. I do admit however, that it would be interesting to see post-apocalyptic DC on the big screen...

Like it was mentioned in a different post, it would almost be better to create an original story based in the Fallout universe, perhaps the plight of a different vault in a different region.

Fallout would make a better book than a movie. Want to turn a game into a movie? Try Mass Effect, that would make a great movie.

Off-Topic, sort of. It'd ruin Mass Effect due to the choices made by the player being different than what's in the movie. That is, if it focuses on Commander Shepard. If it's in the ME universe, people that haven't played it will call it another Star Wars and we'll have a bunch of idiots changing from Darth Vader into Saren.

On-Topic, If it is about the games I'd rather it not be made at all. Of course, that won't stop them. A book would be slightly better, but only if it was an original story. Again, because of the different choices made by the players.

If it's being made by Uwe Boll there is going to be a great war.

Seconded! (I hope they decide to keep him and one certain other director at bay)

~If they're super sharp [IMO]... they'll at least try for http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000416/; At one time he was interested in making DOOM, and its an awful shame that it was not him that finally did.

My hope is that its licensed by Bethesda, but not their pet project; For then it at least has the slim chance of being the original tale of the Master and could have cameos by the original voice cast in some roles.

Okay ... So-long it's a own orginal and unique story, I have no really problem ... Maybe the upleading events before the great war (but that gives a big mystery immersion break)

a Fallout movie could only be good if it had Vin Diesel in it.

In my opinion its better an actor like Robert Downey, Jr. who we saw as the main actor in the movie IRON MAN ....a normal scientific guy...that discovers the dark side of the life and becomes a different and darker person.....this is a Fallout concept - I don't think that they breed super humans like Arnold S. or Vin Diesel or the Rock in the Vault.....

but it would be cool to see Diesel beat down a deathclaw with his bare hands.

I would pay to see that.

Yeah it would be cool..but a Deathclaw is too tough even for mutants (the size...the strength...the claws...the speed...the awareness - you can't even sneak up to them).... so Vin Diesel barehanded ?... just another evening snack before bed time for a Deathclaw...

Maybe wearing some power armor...? but still....?

Cage as the Vault Dweller, the busts out of the vault after shivving the overseer, teams up with Diesel, and then they beat down a deathclaw with their bare hands and break its legs for some sweat pants money.

Am I the only one who thinks that pic of "Cage" looks like he's partially mutated into David Duchovny?

dude that gives me a great idea. they should put David Duchovny in the movie. except 5 minutes into the movie, he gets killed because he's out looking for aliens and the ship carrying firelance crashes into him.

and then Vin rips a Deathclaw's spine out.

Yeah just to add a few in my opinion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_video_games ...here you have a better view of failures in movie adaptations from games.

There are some exceptions for me like: Resident Evil 1/Dead Space Downfall/Hitman - directors cut...and Doom isn't so bad when you see all the others...like Max Payne playing Constantine on Blue Mescalin...

The movie should start from Fallout 1...because we want to see some sequels...right.... not only Fallout 3...

Movie can be directed in my opinion only by the Directors ...Paul Verhoeven or James Cameron ... also Peter Jackson - currently trying to move the project Halo (it looks like a great movie...),

With any other director I think that will turn out to be bad...also some part is in studio...because they usually destroy some movies with reediting...but luckily now you have DVD-s with Directors cut...like Payback - totally different movie.....just imagine Warner Bros studio shooting Fallout with the PG for kids (they are trying to do this with Terminator - Salvation...so it will be a total ................)

theres an elder scrolls movie? and splinter cell? starcraft? rainbow six? mass effect? earthworm jim? PACMAN!!!? how can they make a sims movie? theres no plot!

I hope it is an original plot, with Fallout setting, but not tied to any video game episode.
I also hope the director is not Uwe Boll!

Christian Bale could be good as the main character: he makes a nice reluctant hero with a good mix of brains and brawl.

how can they make a sims movie? theres no plot!

Good question!

If Fallout is to be made into a movie I want certain people involved.

Ridley Scott - director

Main cast

Gary oldman - BOS Leader
David Thewlis - Ghoul leader
Jeremy Irons - BOS general or maybe Enclave Leader
Robert Picardo - Starkiller like hero for billboards and tv loops. - Have him narrate pip boy related commercials as well.
Ron perlman - BOS Squad commander
Louis Gossett Jr. - BOS Scribe or councilmen
Ian Holm - Wasteland leader

Now for the young would be hero, i picked these not by talent but could possibly pull it off Lucas Black or an unkown for male, and for a female I would say possibly Scarlett Johansson or Grace Park.

Mutants dont have to be big stars or even real. I would use mix though, both live and cgi. but we need a powerful leader or villian so maybe Rutger Hauer.

I agree it should be something that ties them together and not just a game to movie, so maybe have it take place in the midwest or in the south.

Maybe have Joan Allen (pleasantville, death race) play the mother figure. Bring Liam Neeson as the father hehehe or maybe Bill Paxton.

just some ideas but I could go on, i dont turn off and I should really...

If Zenimax has anyone with a working brain in their boardroom, they will reject any proposal with Uwe Boll's name or anyone ever affiliated with him.

Common mistakes I've noticed in movie versions of games:

They get some craven director who probably never played the game before, who'd want to instill his own "vision" of the game. In this case, I predict Super Mutants will be genetically engineered by aliens to take over the world.

Low production values. The wasteland will probably look like it was shot in someone's backyard.

Catering to the movie crowd. Or the crowd who've never played the game. So the hero will be from a Vault again, will get a trusty canine companion again, will team with the Brotherhood of Steel again, and we'll be treated to long expositions about the Great War, FEV, and becoming a Ghoul. Things that fans have known for years.

On the off chance that they do get a good team together and are going to be faithful to the series, I agree with Ausir that I'd like to see an original story set in the Fallout universe, instead of a rehash of events from the games.

Yeah. And the lead actor will be Arnold Schwarzenegger, playing the Lone Wnaderer, with 10 Strength and 1 Intelligence. Where is se Minigun of mine, dada? I'll be back. ( after exiting the Vault). (This wasn't meant to sound sarcastic.)
