Fallout movie in development?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:50 am

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1313237/

The date is most likely a mistake or placeholder, but if it's in IMDb Pro, not just the regular IMDb, the project itself is most likely real.

Of course, the title might be a coincidence, but I wouldn't rule out an actual Fallout movie either.

And the events leading up to the Great War have begun.

I expect FEV to be released upon the populace soon.

If it's being made by Uwe Boll there is going to be a great war.

I hope it's about Fallout 3, not the other Fallouts.

I hope the exact opposite, but your wish is more likely to come true, unfortunately.

Actually, I'd prefer it to be neither - an original story set in the Fallout world would be better.

Wow. I actually agree with this. :tops:

I hope they screw around as far away from the west coast and as far into the future as possible.

I dont know ifi ts occured to anyone or not but it makes the most sense to start with Fallout 1. It all started there. Its a great big epic story. Also from an economic stand point it makes the most sense. All the new fans to fallout would most likely go to see any movie from the fallout series. If you get them to go see the first one and it sells good you make FO2 ..... FO3 etc. My fear is that they will [censored] it up. Look what happened with DOOM. Now agreed that there really is no comparison between the two but i really loved DOOM the game in the old days and they could have made a decent movie that conveyed the look and feel of the game But NO .............

I hope it's all about FO3 and made by Uwe Boll. I can imagine it now: "The character, wielding a fatman faces a behemoth whilst bingo-bango-bongo plays in the background", thus capturing the essence :D

But for the love of... don't touch the Chosen One or the Vault Dweller.

I am generally very very wary of films made after games, they usually give their game namesakes a bad rep.

Doom 1, 2 and 3 = Awesome.
Doom Film = [censored].

Aliens Vs Predator 1,2 = Awesome.
AvP = OK
AvP II = ''Sorry Joe, I won't be able to go see that film with you, because... erm.. on Friday night I will be at my little brother's funeral.... walks away, cocks gun, shoots little brother''

AvP movies were not based on the games. Both games and movies are based on the idea first introduced in a comic book series.

That being the case they pulled it off really badly then. I think there are also some other titles out there based on games that elude me at the moment, excluding Tomb Raider, a game of which I was not a fan.

My thoughts too, and if a Fallout movie is made... well, I would hope it would be good, but I wouldn't expect it. The history of video games transfered to movies hasn't been too promising.

Common mistakes I've noticed in movie versions of games:

They get some craven director who probably never played the game before, who'd want to instill his own "vision" of the game. In this case, I predict Super Mutants will be genetically engineered by aliens to take over the world.

Low production values. The wasteland will probably look like it was shot in someone's backyard.

Catering to the movie crowd. Or the crowd who've never played the game. So the hero will be from a Vault again, will get a trusty canine companion again, will team with the Brotherhood of Steel again, and we'll be treated to long expositions about the Great War, FEV, and becoming a Ghoul. Things that fans have known for years.

On the off chance that they do get a good team together and are going to be faithful to the series, I agree with Ausir that I'd like to see an original story set in the Fallout universe, instead of a rehash of events from the games.

Well, now that the gaming community's up to speed, I wouldn't want to have to go through that again for the movie. :D

Yeah just to add a few in my opinion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_video_games ...here you have a better view of failures in movie adaptations from games.

There are some exceptions for me like: Resident Evil 1/Dead Space Downfall/Hitman - directors cut...and Doom isn't so bad when you see all the others...like Max Payne playing Constantine on Blue Mescalin...

The movie should start from Fallout 1...because we want to see some sequels...right.... not only Fallout 3...

Movie can be directed in my opinion only by the Directors ...Paul Verhoeven or James Cameron ... also Peter Jackson - currently trying to move the project Halo (it looks like a great movie...),

With any other director I think that will turn out to be bad...also some part is in studio...because they usually destroy some movies with reediting...but luckily now you have DVD-s with Directors cut...like Payback - totally different movie.....just imagine Warner Bros studio shooting Fallout with the PG for kids (they are trying to do this with Terminator - Salvation...so it will be a total ................)

Its probably not a Movie about Fallout the Series

The End of the World Vibe is in the air.. 2012.12, Mayan Calendar, and whatever else

So my guess is, that this will be a movie about the aftermath of World War 3.. It could even be a movie, about the "Fallout" of George W's two terms as President

Its one word, i really don't think its about the Series :D

Theres a whole lot of blank map in the fallout world - but if it is going to cross familiar territory, California is more developed for a movie.

Fallout would make a better book than a movie. Want to turn a game into a movie? Try Mass Effect, that would make a great movie.

Only decent game to movie thus far was the original Mortal Kombat... none of the garbage sequels. Resident Evil was merely OK.

Problem with games is they have a structure which is not meant for non-interactive entertainment. Boss fights make sense in a game as a chance to test your skills; meanwhile the boss fight structure in a movie is merely boring. For example, fight scenes in Ghost Rider follow the boss-fight format. Though it was not a game, it seemed like one on the screen. Oh a new enemy! He's kicking my @$$! Oh I found his weakness, WTFBBQSAUCEPWNED.... boring...

Secondly, directors who don't understand the game try to give the "[censored]" their in-game references. Voice acting in games, along with character animation, is more at home in a theatre than it is a movie. Thus copying the game's fine details often leads to a soap opera like performance. Games are usually over-the-top, which is fine... but this is cheesy in movies. "[censored]" kickbacks are best kept very subtle.

IMO the only way a movie from a game would work is to place it in the same universe and in a completely new setting. Same situations, same world, references to the game's larger factions (Enclave, BOS); new characters, new locations, new conflict... some cameo appearances are fine (ie: walking past the Vault Dweller on the street), but again... best kept subtle.

EDIT: Apparantly "[censored]" was censored above; perhaps to hold back insults?

Agreed, when you take something from one medium to another (video games based on movies, movies based on books, etc.) it generally doesn't work well to try and copy the story. The closer you try and follow the story the more restricted you are, and a lot of things that work well in one medium don't necessary work well in another. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions, but if there was a movie based on the Fallout universe I really think it deserves its own plot. Similarities are fine, but the focus should be on translating the setting and experience, not the exact plot.

I think that Fallout is more about the setting than the story. There is no reason for them to take the story from any of the games. It would more likely take some story elements from the entire series.

The super mario movie was about two plumbers fighting aliens. It was destined to svck. A Fallout movie is just a move about traveling through a post apocalyptic wasteland, it could and should be good. Or at least it isn't destined to be horrible.

I agree. "Fallout" isn't the most original title and I somehow doubt it's about the game. Of course, Fallout would make for a better film than the Elder Scrolls and post apocalyptic films are kind of popular right now. I think if it was even remotely faithful to the game it would be seen as a Mad Max homage at best, but probably closer to a rip off.
Good Video Game Movies: The resident evil movies, which I'm told are not remotely close to the game. Hitman wasn't bad but not exceptional.
Okay - Mortal Kombat - so bad it's good kind of thing
Bad - Uwe's stuff. Did he do Bloodrayne? How did they ever get Ben Kingsly into that?

only thing that was ok with the DOOM movie was the first-person view at the end. they should have made the entire movie from that view point and skipped the entire plotline with a military team going in and alot of people is alive and simple done it with a lone surviving Space marine trapped in a UCL Marsbase filled to the brim with demons trying to get home alive.

it would have been something new and interesting.

and Dead Space movie was actually good, maybe doing movies based on games as animated movies is the way to go?

and if they do make a Fallout movie dont go the way as that other movie, Doomsday. making crap like that should be punishable with execution....
