I played GTA IV under the summer when it was incredibly hot and got a couple of overheating warnings from my xbox, I decided to cool it off with fans (dunno if thats good but whatever) and it died a couple of weeks after.

I don't blame GTA IV (Which was the only game that got crashes), there's nothing to blame it on.
I had the xbox for 2 years, and this was one of the early models.
Not a single RROD did I have until that summer with GTAIV.

Point is, your PS3 might be old or you might have mistreated it or something?

My PS3 sometimes crashes with Fallout. Just remember to save often (after every important find/quest), try not to multi task (download, music etc) your PS3 and you should be fine.

Then it might be age.
I do not know how PS3's handle ventilation, did you keep it in a very tight space so it did not have enough room to ventilate?
Might collect too much dust and muff up something inside it.

I pretty much only play New Vegas on my 40GB PS3 I've had since near release of the system, and it works fine for me. It's probably just coincidence you suffered YLOD

You need a new one, the 320gb slimline ones are pretty lush.

Yep, picking and choosing which games I have installed is a pain, but being poor limits my chances of a new system.

Yeah, I install everything that has the option. Saves so much time on loading screens. Especially with GT5, the difference between installed/read from disc is pretty unreal... :S

The games not going to cause general hardware failure which is what the ylod death is code for a lot of the early series ps3's have bad solder connecting the gpu it's more brittle than it should be and after repeated heating anc cooling begins to have micro fractures which eventually get so bad it ceases to function that's been a big cause of ylod, as long as your not hard resetting your system ie. flipping the power switch off while your sytem is on your not doing damage by resetting the system.

Coincidence

Yes.

Moving on, I advise you look into local shops about fixign the YLOD chances are it be cheaper and faster then Sony. I had my YLOD fixed for eighty dollars and under weeks wait.

Some times when i play Fallout my X-Box would Freezes/Crashes, then i would restart my X-box and it would then work with every game, including Fallout. But the Fallout crashes time to time.

Game freezes and crash, however I haven't got YLOD. I clean my filters every week and let it cool down.
