Fallout: New Vegas is a breath of fresh air after around 10 years of pretty foo foo RPGs. I am glad to see a game that really hits home on old school "make you think" RPGs. There are alot of things in New Vegas that are straight from Fallout 1 and 2, and I like it! I am sorry for all the gamers that feel that it is not as good as 3 because you can't have a god character by level 15. Nor can you take almost every perk in the game. Again I am so glad to see a game that makes players really think about what they are going to do.

Of course it is more fun than 3.

I think most people that love Fallout 3 love it despite being able to be too overpowered, not because of it. Just saying.

Other than that, happy to hear you love New Vegas so much

Yes it feels closer to F1 and F2. A whole lot more.
Fallout 3 feels like a mix between Fallout and Elder Scrolls.
So please if theres a F4 please let Obsidian do it!

I don't think it is as good as 3 in some areas, such as random encounters. The Mojave Wasteland is just so damn boring, nothing exciting happens. Its a great game like how Fallout 3 was a great game, but I wouldn't say its better.

I would hope it's better, I mean they did use FO3 as a template, took fan feed back and added their own twist. If it's not better than FO3 then I would feel real bad for Obsidian. Though I do understand that the exploration in this game svcks hard. Thats too bad, they shouldn't have made it an open world if there is really nothing to explore.

I haven't completed those quests yet, but the conclusion to the bad intel quest at Camp Golf is probably the most poignant moment I've ever experienced in a videogame. Everything comes together there, from the writing, to the voice acting, to how they use something stupidly simple the engine is capable of.

Though liking New Vegas plenty, I still like 3 even more. Feel free to pelt me with rotten fruit and declare me an idiot and to list all sorts of "objective" reasons why my opinion is factually incorrect, though.

edit: and yes, my love for the third game has nothing to do with "being able to be a god character by level 15", but is despite this.

Apart from this, I agree with most everything you write. New Vegas is undoubtedly closer in spirit to the original games and it is quite evident that those who entered the series with the first two find it to be a return to form. However -- and this is sadly where we are doomed to disagree -- I am still of the opinion that, for better or worse, "Fallout" is anything that bears that label, that "Fallout" encompasses Tactics and BoS and Fallout 3 and should Bethesda or Obsidian decide tomorrow to release a platform game featuring a Super Mutant jumping over the rooftops of a ruined DC then this would be "Fallout" too.

Agreed. Though for me it was Boone and Arcade.

Either way, the writing in most of the quests in this game was phenomenal.

I like companions like Cass & Veronica more than any companion in any BioWare game since Baldur's Gate 2.

I don't think I would rate the game better than FO3 without the excellent companions and their personal quests.

I have to agree and disagree with you here.
Take the Alien franchise as an example. Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Ressurrection
Every one has a diffferent director, all have a very different feel to them. Some are 'better' than others, yet they're all unmistakingly Alien movies.
Alien 3 has a lot more in common with the original than it does with Aliens, but I think it's going to be difficult to find many people who think it is better than Aliens.
