fallout new vegas at midnight

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:04 am

so the reason it's at 7pm in Europe is because we have to wait for the Steam people in the US to get out of bed and activate it?

I would swear but it's unladylike....

Well, it's worse for the rest of the world even further east of the US. Australia gets their games activated at 4am the day after the release date.

can we please keep this on the "Unlocking time" topic? Don't want the mods to shut down ANOTHER thread without the question being answered... thanks everyone

I think we're just waiting to hear from Gstaff at this point?

They seem to be the authority on the subject.

But, if I buy a box game, why can't I install it, register it, then go? Surely the unlock is just for people who pre-download the game from Steam?

And it's worse for us in Europe, 7pm unlock. That's a whole day wasted almost. Why not just put 23rd as the release date and be done with it?

This would be the case if the game didn't have Steam built-in. Most games out there do not have Steam built in, they just sell a digital copy of it. Meaning if you get a box copy of it, it doesn't matter. You don't even need Steam installed at all.

Unfortunately, for New Vegas, Steam is built-in. Meaning, you need Steam installed and running when playing the game. Just like Civ 5, Left 4 Dead, etc. From my Civ 5 experience, I got it at 8 am, and the unlock didn't happen until 10am. It let me install the game like their pre-load thing, but I couldn't play it. until 10am. Game was encrypted until then.

Steam is a more complicated DRM than a regular cd check.

I have deleted the Trolling, Flaming and Platform Bashing from this thread. It is not like we don't have enough of these release time threads for this one, or most of the others to stay open.

Please don't give me a reason to close this thread.

Well going by Civilization V the game was activated about 10 minutes after 10:00am. So if Steam says 1:00pm for activation then that is what it will be. Just because you buy the game at 12:00am midnight, all it means is you can buy the game at midnight but activation will be just after 1:00pm.

I believe stores like Gamespot opening up at midnight is not for PC users but for 360 and PS3 users who can play the game as soon as they get home. So only people who are on the 360 and PS3 will be playing the game at midnight, the PC crowd will have to wait 13 hours later.

I dont even really see advertisemant for the PC version at my gamestop.

Just big posters for PS3 and 360.

Then a piece of paper for PC.

Haha.

I have sent an inquiry in about this asking for an answer. In the meantime, think about this.

You the man CCNA, thank you. :)

I'm sure your right and that the game will unlock for us at 12:15am or whenever we get home, it wouldn't make sense otherwise. Still I appreciate you sending the inquiry in, as I'm sure that if this Was going to be a problem, they will resolve it on Monday so that it won't be.

Keeping the faith! :fallout:

I really Am hoping its unlocks at 12:01. But, lets look at the Facts.

1) These Midnight release parties are for 360/PS3 ... hell I have 5 gamestops with in 4miles any direction of me and none of them stock PC games anymore. They will only get A PC games if you Pre-Order. (note all 5 + 1 Bestbuy are doing the Midnight. )

2) Its A steamworks game .. If you buy DVD you have too have steam too run it .. (also since its A steam game you will never have too use the CD/DVD too install it again cause its linked your steam Account)

HOWEVER.

3) Thier are a Few retail games that have been released Before steam and worked (AVP being one, and yes it did svck and was not worth the angry over retail gettn it first)

So .. who knows, Have too wait and see (Note: I think we have made enough of these post here and on steam too let them see we wanted it at 12:01 also .. so maybe they will ? .. Nope lets keep this action going so it up at the same time )

BTW gamestop and bestbuy have the game in their backrooms already .. I know ppl whom are playing it right now on their PS3/ 360s.. wish I was A sleaze that played crappy consoles

I am getting 2 copies for the PC at my local GameStop, all of which carry games for the PC. Must be something about your area.

As CCNA and Gstaff have both stated, they are checking into it. I highly doubt this will be a problem on launch day, my money is for clean activation at 1AM on the 19th (for me thats when I think I'll be home and have it installed)

If I were a betting man, this is the scenario I would lay money on. I think the midnight release day parties are for console folks, who are not tied to Steam. The Steam unlock time of 1:00 (for all PC copies, digital and physical) may move before noon, but it won't be midnight.

Gstaff has already answered this,

"Hey guys wanted to share some info on when the game will be available to unlock on Steam, Direct2Drive, and Gamestop digital download.

On the 19th:

12:01 AM Pacific Time (PST) for North America, Central America, and South America.

On the 22nd

12:01 AM Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) for territories other than North America, Central America, and South America"

In this tread,

Now, I know I'll be able to play at 2:01 AM, where I live.

No trouble, I've ben desperately trying to find this out myself.

New plan for Monday night, Tuesday morning,

Mon, 11:30 PM, Go to Gamestop,

Tuse, 12:30, 12:45 AM home,

Install the game, open beer and, read all roads, watch the making of DVD,

Tuse, 2:01 AM activate and, play until I can't play any more. :celebration:

That sounds like a good plan to me too Cev. :icecream: Cept I have an extra hour to wait.

I've never done the steam install yet and had intended to, so I'll spend the time getting familiar with Steam as well.

Thats splendid actually, as I'll have the All Roads novel under my belt and fresh in-mind when I start. I'll add a little Fallout2 and Fallout3 music to the scene as I read the novel - should definitely get me in the mood :disguise:

Trust me on this, a lot of US gamers comlain about this when Europe and Australia get games released earlier, even though they are much smaller in terms of gaming.

No, Steam doesn't unlock until 12:01 am (PST). your game will just be sitting there taunting you until the unlock pops.

/love.

I HAVE NEVER been to a midnight launch for anything, not Halo not COD not Forza 3. NOTHING.

But I really, really wanted to go for fallout N.V and meet other people who also love fallout (j person) as much as I do.

My town is small, but its the only game stop for three towns, I suspect a long line for me. I think I will leave at 10Pm monday, get there about 10:30 and wait for 1 1/2 hours in line to get it and my collectors edition guide. I will have to dress really warm, and I will likely bring some food, with extras and extra coats just in case anyone needs/wants one.

If I go to the midnight release and get my game will steam allow me to play it when I get home? I was just curious since steam says their copy won't unlock until 1pm on Tuesday. It would be a real shame if everyone who got it at midnight went home to find out they can play because bethesda wanted to use steam...

Steam unlock times are never reliable.
