Fallout: New Vegas not as fun as Fallout 3? Why?

Post » Fri Jan 16, 2009 7:56 pm

FO3 does not continue the story of FO2. Nothing in the game has anything to do with the result of anything in FO2 when it comes to the main story.

Well, there's Enclave right?
I say we beat the dead horse more in FO4: Iceland >_O

Well poisoning the entire world and trying to control deathclaws two times didn't work.

The enclaves goal was to kill of those deemed unsuitable for humanities survival.
Considering they turned out to be deluded sociopaths with no clue as to surviving in the big ol' bad wastes.
I say they did accomplish those goals in a darwinian maner.
Just not how they hoped or planned it would turn out however.

Well, I'm having fun. The combat is better, the weapons are more varied, the map is just as cool as the CW, and there's almost too-much to do, so I can't see the point of your post.

If you don't feel like playing, don't play. If you dislike the game, don't play. Jeez.

combat in new vegas svcks, how is combat better ? powder gangers use hatchets and varmit rifles, ceasers legion use spears and macheties, only the fiends use energy weapons not sure why that is, the other raider type factions in the game use pool ques and pistols, ncr uses service rifles, gunnunners and silver rush have some good qeapons so why aren't the enemies in the game using their weapons? exactly what enemies are quality ? oh its hard to deal with deathlcaws maybe or cazedores, they're kinda cool, but where is this quality combat ? i don't consider some guy running at me with a 9m or pool que or hatchet exactly "better" combat so sorry but even in FO3 as weak as that combat was, at least there were groups using some decent firepower, enclave had energy weapons, plasma rifles, incinerators, supermutants had chinese assault rifles, talon mercs had laser rifles and chinese assault rifles, i've been playing new vegas since it came out, i also played fallout 3 for 2 years, other than fighting deathlcaws and cazedores, there is absolutely no way combat in new vegas is hard or difficult, after level 20 or so it becomes so easy to kill everything its not even funny, i never die once i'm at about level 20, not even close, by then there is nothing with good enough firepower to cause me a huge threat.

He meant combat as in how you fight against enemies. Not the weapons enemies use. BETTER combat means ironsights, mods, and etc.

NO, enemies are better as well. Although aside from Brotherhood you don't get loot cattle in PA, enemies are more dangerous,

For example, while Raider's with normal clothes have DT 2, which is equivalent to DR10~15 against early game weapon damage range 10~20.

FO3's enemy doesn't pack "decent firepower" either. Even Enclave trooper have weapon at ~30% max, which means they are not as powerful as they seem. While in NV the same 30% is actually equivalent to 50% in FO3 thanks for the "optimal condition" being at 75%. Not to mention most FO3 weapons does more damage in NV.

The only "dangerous" enemy in FO3 are Overlord, Albino Radscorpion and Ghoul Reaver, which are all added in Broken Steel. However in case of Overlord, its only if they have Tri-beam which deals 35 damage no matter what the player have. Albino Radscorpion can easily be deal with grenades which all pool cue raider, 3rd Talon Company, hammer wielding Super Mutant and Enclave Officer have. Ghoul Reaver is even more ridiculous, they have this magical radiation orb which deal damage in percentage (somewhere about 60% of max health) and bug armour to dodge bullet.

Now tell me, how is NV combat not better?

Well I have to say I’m a bit like the first post, I don't relay enjoy the story line that much, the first day or so I played it it a as good, helping out the town, running into a guy yelling “I just won the lottery” and shooting him for the ticket, thinking it would we something of value to me, then finding out what the lottery relay means, I think that sums up what the game Fallout for me, . Yah that’s it right there, there are few other cool side thing to do on your way to New Vegas, but I found that the story line did start to go down hill, and a lot of thing didn't relay make scene.

One guy saying “his from the suburbs”.... really your from the suburbs........ What......... what suburbs., I think he even said he was going to visit he mum and dad back home, hay that's it and I guess the only reason your working for the NCR is to pay of the mortgage as well so you can send your kids off to college.

the last fallout game I playingthey panted the scene of cities being wipe out due to nuclear war, for some reason I just pictured a normal place, there are other statements like this in the game but that that one seems to annoy me a lot. As said before in NV, every thing dose seem to organised and it starting to look like the game could be set anywhere, WW2 , the meddle est 2011, Rome 100BC (we already half way there) it doesn’t relay matter, I mean a war over a dam, is that it.. I just think I have head this story line before, and I just don't care, a lot of the time to many people look liked they are doing paper work, or telling you that you have to do paper work, sometime I have to remind myself that I am playing a fallout game, and not buying a used car. but most of the time I just feel like I am a aron boy for every one ells, thing that should be done over the phone or 2 way radio, and other pointless things that don't lead anywhere, i wonted more survival, what I wonted was to scavenge for thing because I need to buy a new gun to protect myself I wont to way up should I take that conductor if so what don’t I need, but that seems to be missing, or it maybe just me.

I just seemed like a lot of the missions are put there just to try and make the game longer, and also a lot of the time there not in there “Right” order, I mean the boomers camp should on the road to NV, not after, they offered me all this pointless work, kill ants fix this or that, things I wonted to do when I was short on caps and XP points, but by the time you find them you relay don't need the caps, but you have to do them anyway because Mr house sent you there, and the “right” text isn’t coming up “yet”, that's anther thing that annoyed me too, you get sent to do something but you cant to it because you haven’t done something ells yet, witch is fine but most of the time you don’t know what you need to do.

While shooting Benny in the head while he was begging for his life was fun, when you look at it most of the story isn't about you or your, I think most of the game should have been about finding Benny, before finding him I was expecting much more, and I was disappointed when I meat him, I guess it's the same with New Vegas as well. I could go on and on about things, and I don't mean to sound so negative but after playing fallout 3 and loving every bit of it this game just mist the mark for me.

Beware of spoilers in the above post.

I enjoyed both games equally. They both have their pros and cons. Fallout 3 had some stand out quests and some impressive scenery, it also had a lot to see that wasn't related to quests, exploring is fun. That said, it had a generic storyline, not very good writing and terrible leveling.

New Vegas has an interesting storyline, interesting characters, companion quests are great, combat massively improved and the introduction of hardcoe is brilliant. However I don't enjoy walking over massive expanses of nothing, no random events to break monotony, very few audio logs (personal bane) and terrible radio.

This is my opinion though, obviously others feel differently due to poll results.

New Vegas feels a lot like a big expansion pack for Fallout 3. That's the main issue, I believe. If you think about it, New Vegas isn't much different from one of those extra DLC contents that Fallout 3 got before. Think about it: just add a quest activator in Fallout 3 so that the Vault 101 dweller goes in a courier company and gets a sidequest about bringing a package in Nevada..... and hey presto, you linked Fallout 3 with New Vegas just like you did with The Pitt and the other DLC stuff.

New Vegas is like a particularly big and entertaining DLC for Fallout 3. Just like all of Fallout 3's DLC, it adds a special flavor to the general post-apocalyptic theme (in this case, the cowboy flavour), and a few other armours and stuff. And just like all the Fallout 3 DLC, it doesn't add that much more than that.

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving New Vegas. It's an excellent rpg, and it's just what I needed to refresh my interest for Fallout. But as much as it's an awesome game, to me it still feels like a big DLC for Fallout 3.
