Fallout New Vegas not responding crashes

Post » Mon Nov 04, 2013 1:22 am

Installed the game yesterday through steam and managed to get through about 3-4hrs without any issues. Came across my first crash to desktop after that and then the crashing has continued to take place a lot more frequently at around one every 10 minutes of gameplay. I don't have any mods installed and all my graphics card drivers are up to date. What I have tried:

-- Steam integrity verification. Tried it and it said 1 file would be re-downloaded. No change

-- Tried adding commands to the .ini files both in the documents folder and steamapps folder that basically reduce the amount of cores I'm using. No change.

-- Loading an old save game. No change.

I have also on occasion received a runtime error as well but only that's only happened twice. The annoying thing is when it does crash the sound that was playing at the time of the crash then gets lopped constantely in windows after its been closed down. The only way to fix that is to restart the computer so I've basically give up playing the game altogether now after a whopping 2 days of playing. I'd love any feedback

First question, mods?

Second question, is your video card overheating?

If your running autosaves, your save may have been corrupted. As for the sound issue, rule out any background apps by running the game under a clean boot

Turn off the Autosave features and instead make a series of slots that you cycle through. I even make a new slot about every 5th save. Overwriting saves too many times is not good in the long run.

No mods installed and graphics card seems to be running fine. I'll turn off the autosave function and try not to press F5 constantely and get back to you

Does it tend to happen when you're doing something like pulling up your Pip-Boy, looting a corpose, going through doors, etc.? Does it happen more often in a particular location like Freeside or the Strip? For me, the main cause of these types of crashes was vsync. Might want to try disabling it.

Random. Happened once during a fight, happened just now as i went through a door. Just received a runtime error just then as I went through a door followed by a FalloutNV not responding error message. It lasted about 40 minutes after I changed the auto save function but the issue still persists it seems. I don't have Vsync enabled
