Fallout new Vegas ran smoothly...for a while.

I've been playing Fallout New Vegas for quite some time now, probably around a month. It's been on Ultra settings, Antialiasing 2x, Anisotropic Filtering 6 samples, with HDR enabled. It ran very smoothly, at least 30 fps from what I could tell. But now, 65 hours in to my save file, I'm getting horrible lag, around 5-10 fps. The game worked fine last night, but now its almost unplayable. I haven't done anything to change the game drastically story wise from last night until now, it just randomly got worse. I have the game of the year edition with all dlc and the game is up to date. All drivers are also up to date. Any idea on why it's slowed down all of a sudden?

I've heard that once the save game file goes above 10mb it starts to have problems for some people, which is usually around the 60hour mark...not too sure though(check the size of your saves), I heard it was only the PS3 that had this problem for people, I'm sure other people know more about this
