Fallout New Vegas running slow and choppy...

Post » Wed Jan 12, 2011 4:48 pm

I have a pretty high end system at home with GTX 480 SLI. i bought fallout 3 several years ago and back then i only had GTX 280 in SLI but the game still ran like a dream on max settings. no glitches or slowdowns whatsoever.

However, when i bought Fallout New Vegas i noticed a few graphical slowdowns (even after the first 2 patches). Why is it that if i switch to ultra graphics mode and pan the mouse around quickly do i get stuttering???? why does the VATS zoom in and zoom out not appear smooth at all times??? why does the fps slow down on occasion when just walking along a road ??? it's just really strange..... is this a bug in the game???? New vegas basically has virtually the same graphics as F3 and yet runs SLOWER even with upgraded GPUs (i.e duel GTX 480s!!!)

What drivers are you on?

I've had that problem on a GT9600, and simply dropped HDR from the initial options menu, that actually got rid of it.

I've noticed that this game's graphics perform pretty much the same as those of F3 after the Broken Steel patch. For my rig, that took a faultless F3 and gave it bugs.

Edit:

Still have the VATS problem though, but that's dating back to BS. You would have thought that they would have tried to fix these problems rather than rebadging the system, but what the hey....
