Fallout 3 or New Vegas?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 4:56 am

Just because Avatar made a crap ton of money and won lots of awards doesn't mean its a good movie.

really I was laughing my ass off when Fallout 3 won best writing, I can't believe anyone thought it wad good writing.

Three Dog: I fight the good fight with my voice.

You: [Intelligence] So you fight the good fight with your voice.

Three Dog: Aren't you a chip off the old block

WIKI quote.
Fallout 3.
At the 2009 Game Developer's Choice Awards, it won overall Game of the Year along with Best Writing.
End.

Can something that has been awarded "Best writing", suddenly become "crap writing" according to KyleM.

It is not just KyleM. Myself and many others on here agree Fallout 3's writing was total crap. How it ever won an award for it one only knows. My guess was 2009 was a very bad year for games with half decent let along great writing and the award had to go to someone

I'll give you that. Fallout 3's competition in the 2009 awards were not very stiff. The only major contender that I could see was Star Wars the Force Unleased, while New Vegas was up against Assasins Creed and the like.

Eh. Doesn't really matter to me. I know New Vegas's writing is better, there's no way in my mind that it could not be. I'm not sure why I'm arguing to be honest. I guess I just don't feel the writing is as bad as others think. :)

Both games are really good. If you like the feel of shooters more fo3 is for you GOTY edition. It is what I would call a light rpg/open world shooter/ survival horrer. There are a lot of enemies, and the game world is 1000000000000000000 times better than nv IMO

NV is a good game in its own right. More of a full rpg, but lacks in combat big time. It may have more weapons, but there isn t much to use them on.

The desert is the desert, and DC ruins are DC ruins.

You should get both, but Fo3 GOTY is the greatest overall game ever created by human beings. IMO

Yes, because Fallout 3 has crap writing and New Vegas has good writing, I don't see how this is difficult for you to grasp.

OH wow in your opinion

In my opinion fo3 main story has far more depth than I got shot in the head.

Fo3 I was in the game nv not so much too many story overlap flaws that piss me off and take me out of the game.

No, what makes these opinoins gospel truth? What makes their opinions better than anyone elses? If I had a soapbox like these people and said that F3's writing was poor and it's reuse of old elements was lacking in creativity would that make it more valid? No it wouldn't; what it means is that the majority of people enjoyed F3 enough to vote for it, does that eliminate it's problems? No.

I enjoyed F3 when I did my own damn thing in it and ignored the main quest and dialouge; just as all of my friends who enjoy Fallout don't give jack-[censored] about the stories or the world, these are unfortunately often the majority.

It always baffles me when people quote awards as if to say 'You are dead wrong', there's an authority on what is fun now? This is how 1984 starts people.

It won a ton of awards, because its the greatest allaround game ever made. Dead parents lifes work vs I got shot in the head.

Really I felt fo3 I do not feel nv. The linear story that you site as crap grabs you and holds you until the end of the game.

Good writing does that........ you feel it.

Laugh all you want about a game that did some award sweeping, and is sitting in the Smithsonian. When your game is in the greatest museum in thd country, and its safe to say one of the greatest in the world you know your game made IMPACT.

I got shot in the head lol Don t make me keep going CL lol

The shot in the head part of New Vegas was the only part of the main storyline that I had to role my eyes at a bit. New Vegas had a fairly shaky start in my opinon.

I got interested somewhere around Primm though, and was hooked by the time I got to Nipton. From then on it was almost flawless.

Gamers voted fo3 into the Smithsonian. Are gamers and all the E3 awards and all the GOTY awards it won and all the all time lists it placeed highly in worth nothing? This just about narrows it down to old dinosaur club. The only note worth video game, and pro writing critics that matter.

You guys are legendary writing/video game critics in your own minds.

The rest of the world says its a great game.

Elder Lyons, Sarah Lyons, your dad were all written very well.

The main story line crushes nv into pieces.

NV had more side quests, and overall NPCs were better written, but since they did not come up with a better gripping main story line that made me feel it is not better IMO.

Back pack who you want FTW. Sorry not good writing to me.

Fo3 made me feel needed NV does not

IMO of course.

I don't understand how anyone can feel for anyone in F3, that whole game is filled with lazy IDIOTS.

You can try to convince me that Falout 3 has good writing but you will fail. The game is total Black and White, Good vs Evil. Only one real option and that is to be the Good Guy. Can't join the bad guys but for some reason you can nuke a town. A man sits in a bar all day asking new people to do the job and no one noticed? Then we find out it is all because some old guy wants a better view

The game is good and fun, I have said that many times. It isn't a good Fallout game and the writing is just crap through and through.

Again, do you really believe that some one can be qualified to tell people what is 'fun' based entirely on thier own opinion? Does 'fun' have an authority? Are you aware what you are suggesting?

The rest of the world says its a great game.

Then I guess I am wrong, when has majority rule every been a bad thing right?

Nipton was sweet House was sweet overall NPCs are better written, but the story over lap flaws that I keep finding are bad. The Backpack who you want FTW ending is just bad. Throw in Yes Man and the fact that I can make NCR wait for a dead president to show up and give a speech for eternity and the endings turn into bad on top of bad.

Fallout 1 got voted into the Smithsonian as well.

So the geneirc White Knights vs The Evil Baddies storyline is better?

Fo3 made me feel needed NV does not

So you need to feel needed for a storyline to be good?

Fallout 3's storyline is more cinematic, but its also extremely generic and not RPG like at all, unlike New Vegas's storyline which is actually what an RPG story should be, a blank slate, thats why its called a ROLE PLAYING GAME.

Whereas calling the player evil for not wanting to kill themselves at the age of 19 when there potentially 3 out of 8 of the companions - three of he best too - are immune to radiation? The message of F3 is that to be an individual is bad and that following the your Dad even to the grave if necessary is good; then giving your opinion on the regulation of fun it's not surprising.

The main storyline is about water, your dad in the game made something overcomplicated to do a simple thing, purify water, all you need is dirt, THATS IT, rivers do it naturally, so the potomac river should be clean by now, but its not, for some reason Bethesda treated that large flowing river like a stagnant pool of water.

the whole motivation to clean water F3 is very VERY flawed.

Role play does not only mean get out the leather chaps tonight hon.

You can also play the role of your self in a whole new world.

I made 5 characters in fo3 never once did I say " why can t I help the Enclave kill me?" The Enclave or Talon Comp or the super mutants don t need or want your help.

90% of people could care less about you in real life, and in 2277 DC I bet 99% could care less.

I m glad fo made it as well. It is the start of the whole deal.

The people that made up fo world are awesome. I give them the best idea for a video game award.

Exactly, yet for some reason everyone in Fallout 3 either knows you or knows of you, all Three Dog talks about is your character on the radio like he is in love with him/her.

In New Vegas no one gives a [censored] about you or even knows who you are.

And where did you get you physics degree or any degree to make your statement even remotly meaningful? NASA scientists have no real idea what an all out thermal nuclear war would do to the earth, but you do?

You had the option to do nothing. The place blew up!!!!!

You also had the option to sent in Sarah Lyons. She would man up.....

Ok here is a great example of how bad Fallout 3's writing is

Not word for world

Sarah Lyons "Someone has to go into that room full of super deadly radiation and turn on the purifier."

LW "Well there is just you and I and Fawkes, a super mutant immune to Radiation :ermm: Well Sarah, I see no other option. I will have to go in an sacrifice myslef!"

Fawkes isnt the only one that could have gone in, Sharon and that Robot could have as well.
