Fallout: New Vegas won the Golden Joystick's RPG of the year

Fallout: New Vegas won Golden Joystick's RPG of the year.

Since it is the largest if not the only awards show voted on solely by the public does that mean New Vegas was really popular or really good? It's only real competition was the Witcher 2 and *cough* Fable III *cough*.

Black Ops won an award so I guess the prestige has to be taken with a grain of salt :P

Do ya'll agree that NV deserved the award and are you surprised that it beat the Witcher 2 and Fable 3? :fallout:

EDIT: I voted for NV of course. :cookie:

Never heard of it before, but I'm quite glad that FO:NV won. Am I surpised that it beat Fable 3? No I'm not, it was a crappy game. Though I'm surpised that the Witcher 2 didn't win. Was this based on voting on your favorite RPG or something?

FO:NV sold 5 million copies, making over 300 million US dollars, in its first 3 weeks after release. In the equivalent time period, the film Avatar made just over 221 million USD.

Yeah, it was big.

From what i can gather, Fable 3 seems to have sold somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-3.5 million copies to date. It scored a combined 77 on Metacritic to FONV's 84, and i personally haven't seen a single review that had anything negative to say about FONV other than the (painfully) obvious technical issues. In a recent thread on this forum, at least a couple people claimed to have logged over 1500 hours of FONV gameplay. I personally have put in 150+ this month.

I guess my point is that it would have been astounding if this game hadn't won a few awards.

I'm not suprised at all, Fallout > All Others, and FO:NV > FO3. :fallout:

Well... I can see why Black Ops won and award and the Witcher 2 didn't win, because the WItcher 2 was PC exclusive. Since the Golden Joysticks are voted on by the public multiplatform titles have an advantage of building larger fan bases to vote for them. I guess the awards are really only good at showing what sold the best! :P

Fallout New Vegas definitely deserved this award, but I'm glad that Dragon Age 2 was at least recognized. Its not actually a bad game, it just happened to follow one of the greatest games ever made.

Your right, Dragon Age 2 was ok. But it really can't follow up. I mean had bioware had more time it could have lived up to expections but...

Nope im not surprised that it won. Fable 3 was god awful and The Witcher 2 was only for the PC so it had less of a voting base. Blacks Ops only won because its popular not because its good.

Any game critic or award that recognizes COD or any of that other first person shooter crap as great games and/or dismisses Fallout games are mindless meta-gamers whose opinions are as valid as didly squat.

And I get so tired of people saying Mass Effect is better than Fallout. Mass Effect svcks balls.

Exactly, this is why I never trust game reviews. You never know what kind of idiot wrote them.

As for FO:NV winning the best RPG, it definitely deserved it. From what I've played of Fable III, the best part was the trailer/commercial.

I've read the entire Fallout 3 guide several times, it's a good guide, but the guy who wrote it is a total meta-gamer who says things like "only wear stuff that helps your stats" and "don't take the fortune finder perk, take the scrounger perk."

pffftt, dumb ass. Apparently he forgot it's an RPG.

I noticed that in the guide as well, although I've come to expect the meta-gamer perspective out of any game guide. It just seems like the everyone who wants to take the time to write an official guide is all about the fps aspect of the game rather than the RPG aspect of it.

Or maybe they write it from that perspective on purpose, because they figure that most gamers now are more interested Fallout as a fps than as an RPG.

Whoa there seems to be a massive amount of hate towards COD here. Fallout and COD are extremely different game series which both revolutionized their respective genres. I really liked Mass Effect 2(haven't played the first one), but I do agree that Fallout New Vegas is the better game though Mass Effect 2 does have incredible dialogue, story and actually manages to generate some attachment to your companions. I expect you'll dismiss this comment because it doesn't fit with your viewpoint. :hehe:

I like CoD and Mass Effect both, actually Mass Effect is a close second for my favorite game series tied with Fallout.

Why can't we all just get along? :cryvaultboy:

Mass Effect was far better than Mass Effect 2. Bioware nerfed the RPG aspects of ME2 to pander to the COD fan-bois, and the play after beating the game aspect kills re-playability. You really should pick up a copy of Mass Effect and play it.

I do really want to play the first one since I loved the second one so much, but I heard that it was really glitchy. Have you had any problems with glitches and texture pop-in?

Fallout: New Vegas won the Golden Joystick's RPG of the year What does this mean?

It means the Golden Joystick Awards judges have low standards.

Dude, they have a "Best Shooter" category. Something has to win it.

It means the Golden Joystick Awards judges have low standards.

Guys. It's voted on by the public. Most of whom i would say have impossibly high standards, but that's just me.

Any person who claims that those who enjoy a FPS over RPG's are mindless meta-gamers are very biased against what they don't like.
