Fallout New Vegas you have surprised me

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 10:59 pm

I'll admit first off i bought this game 1 year ago after finishing Fallout 3 and thought yep i will definitely like this but unfortunately i wasn't impressed and didnt make it past goodsprings. I traded the game back in and continued off in my life. Until recently the local game store has New Vegas on sale for $28(AUD) so i couldn't help but try it out again. This time i sat through the entire game and will honestly say it has helped Fallout jump infront of TES in my favourite game series. It is a great game and i cannot believe i didnt enjoy it the first time. Of course all great things are not without their flaws but this was truly an immersive and fun experience. I find myself playing this more then Skyrim!

Not sure if anyone else felt this way or the beginning of the game threw them off a little bit too but wow it's really worth sticking around for the rest of the game. /rant

IMO FO:NV isn't has good has FO3. But yes i did love the game, with the dlc's i enjoyed it even more, they were really great adittions to the game itself. Except the blasted Gun Runners DLC pack T_T It glitched my achievements and i had to do it all again! Still :fallout:

Totally worth it. Except the first one which in my opinion is more frustrating than fun. Other than that it's worth it. And the gun runners dlc pack is cheaper than most of them and gives you new modding options for your weapons

DLC in NV are definately worth every penny. I didn't feel inclined to get any FO3 DLC but I got and loved all the NV DLC's. So yeah get them, that all add in get stories and even life lessons.

Dead money was one of the best ones! It had an awesome cast of characters, and an interesting theme.

The DLCS are definitely worth it, I'll run them down to see which one you might like.

Dead Money: Very different from Fallout New Vegas. You have your equipment taken away at the very beginning, and there are many challenges and dangerous aspects to the DLC which I won't spoil. A lot of people hate on this DLC because of the difficulty, but it's definitely my favorite. People only complain about this DLC because they're too linear about their playstyle to actually adapt to this environment, and just rage like children over it. If you know what you're doing, you won't have this issue.

Honest Hearts: The only Fallout New Vegas DLC that isn't designed by Chris Avellone. It's a diversion from the story of the three other DLCs. I think the story and combat is mediocre, but the exploration is great, and the environment is very pretty and great to explore.

Old World Blues: The most bizarre of the four. A number of people dislike this DLC, but I enjoyed it. If you like that "50's horror sci-fi" theme, then this DLC is for you.

Lonesome Road: A very intense ending to the Fallout: New Vegas story. It's a great DLC with great environment and dialogue, but I would recommend buying it last because it pretty much sums up the game.

I would honestly buy all four, though.

if ya want any, ya have to buy the ones before it. so ya diffently buy all 4.

I myself also had a very similar experience with FoNv. I had gotten it for the 360 when it first came out and i was expecting FO3v2...i was wrong. I played thru and did an indie ending and i felt very angry at the game. I was more focusedon the exploration than the story itself, i dunno i guess it just kinda went thru one ear and out the other. Beat it and then traded it in for soemhign else. Well bout 6 months later, i had gotten my first sweet ass gaming computer. rebouht Fo3 and modded it all to hell and was blown away. After beating Fo3 on pc, i mainly farted around with DAO and so forth, until i saw FONV on sale on steam for insanely low price...i was like what the hell. bought it, look up mods and overhaul mods and so forth and jumped into the game and decided to rp for my first toon......i was blown away. when i actually paid attention to what was being said and what was going on, i was impressed and played it nonstop over 600 hours. took a year break to be severly disappointed with Skyrim, started Overhauled graphics morrowind for the first time and again was blown away. playing morrowind reminded me of the freedom in FoNV and im back playing it again.

Better atmosphere, better lighting and i actually formed a bond with my character since i played with her as a baby. In my gaming experience i love to create bonds with the characters i play, i think that is a really important plus in my gaming experience.

Except that FO3 is hardly an RPG.

So? I still liked FO3 better. I don't like hard games so the hardcoe game achievement in FO:NV was really unapealing to me

Another turnoff for me is the fact that there aren't any iron sights in Fallout 3. The story is corny, undeveloped, linear as hell, and IMHO your backstory is laid out before you as if Bethesda thinks you're too much of an idiot to come up with one.

Like i said, i like to have a connection with the character i'm playing, and FO3 hit the right spot. Although the story is more linear i enjoyed it more than FO:NV because every ending seems to be the wrong one for the people of the Mojave. I respect your opinion tho

I can see that.

I prefer to come up with my own stories for my own character instead of simply being born a holier-than-thou white knight or a devil in disguise.

Well you chose your own destiny. You weren't born a devil without choice. You chose for yourself.

hardcoe mode sin't about making the game more difficult, its about making it more realistic and making it less likely that you'll break the game(spamming stimpaks, carrying 1000's of rounds of every ammo type, etc).
Well you chose your own destiny. You weren't born a devil without choice. You chose for yourself.
The only choice you have in Fallout 3is how your character acts to things, despite this you don't have a choice on how most missions turn out, you don't have a choice on who you will support in the long run, you don't have a choice on giving your character your own back story and the main quest will always force you to try and find your father no matter how you feel about him. My point is that it does what a Fallout game should never have done, go out of its way to give you an ultimatum on whether or not you'll enjoy the story. This ultimatum is this; if you care about the Lone Wanderer's father then you will enjoy the story, if you see him as an irresponsible melodramatic person then you will think that the story is pretty sub-par.

I respect that you like Fallout 3 more then New Vegas in these areas, but please do not pretend that the amount of choice Fallout 3 gives is in anyway on par with New Vegas.

YES! The New Vegas DLCs are amazing! And I agree with you, ever since I got Fallout New Vegas, I haven't touched either Skyrim or Fallout 3.

New Vegas is one of the best RPGs around, in my opinion and I'm on my fourth character right now, playing on hardcoe mode, which really supports the RPG effect! :fallout: New Vegas!

Agreed! Skyrim-job pails in comparison to FO:NV. NV makes me think, which is why I like it so much.

Ironically enough, I never felt a bond with my character in 3, but I do in New Vegas.

So? You can't realisitically expect everyone to win in the end. Besides, I'd say 'the people' do win in different ways.

NCR- I don't know
Legion- Brutal stability and security, diminishing raider groups and gangs
House- Cold and orderly stability and security with economic and technologic progress
Independent- To many outcomes, the general term is Self governance without a single unified governance.

AND the most important thing - your actions affect the world around you - your choices matter! While everyone in Skyrim still sees you as someone who fetches ale for the Companions, even if you are their leader... OMG it galls me that they messed up Skyrim so bad!

I prefer NV to fallout 3, but do people really need to ask why someone liked F3 more than NV everytime someone says that (even when they put "IMO" in front of it), which leads to a completley off-topic and irrelevant discussion?

Why good sir, clearly you've not been active around here. This kind of sniping happens a lot here, same in F3 forums, NV users go on the F3 board, [censored] about Fallout 3 being 'inferior' and suddenly it's a huge bar fight.
