Some gambling, card games, boxing matches, etc. would be nice.
I'm for all the minigames one wants, as long as they are not forced unto the player. Personally, I dislike them. Even the lockpicking is too much. I want my given character to control as much of the game as possible.
July the 4th Hot Dog eating contest at Fenway.
I find the notion of legality in the post apocalypse to be utterly hilarious. Who will enforce these laws?
I am kind of indifferent, although I did enjoy winning lots of caps while playing blackjack in New Vegas. Caravan was not that much fun for me and I only learned it to get the achievement. I certainly don't mind if it's in the game so that other people can enjoy it, just as long as it's not a requirement.
No love for a nice friendly game of nine ball I see...
Oh.. okay then.
Return? Juding by all the things that are known about the game so far, it will be made out of time-wasters, stupid minigames and whatever fads are around these days.
Fads? Bethesda doesn't do fads, never has. I can't think of a single game play mechanic or graphic feature added to any of their games because it was popular at the time.
edit: to be more clear, a fad is something that quickly becomes very popular and then just as quickly becomes unpopular or unwanted.
I can't either. Or rather I couldn't until F4 came with its Minecraftian base-building, Simsian population management, tower defence, simplified dialogue.... basically it's MineSims: Call of FalloutZ Effect.
But yeah, "fads" is probably not the right word to use, "trendy rubbish" would be better.
"trendy rubbish" is a good description of your generalizations. Minecraftian base building? You've never played Minecraft have you? The two can't even be compared. Simsian population management?
Over generalized buzz wording propaganda.
Somebody never played Sims or Minecraft... And I don't want to discuse 'simplified dialogue' again. Something we don't know much about.
You don't understand words very well, do you? Like "trendy", "generalization", "compared", "buzz word", and "propaganda". But if you have to cherry-pick and argue tu quoque, I guess we have nothing to talk about any more
Hah, again with these excuses like "we don't know much about it!" despite they've shown multiple dialogues in a demo which is supposed to show the best stuff the game has to offer, including dialogues. That's called "special pleading".
And like Worm, 'somebody' doesn't understand satire. Do you really think I meant that F4 will have literally the exact same mechanics as those games? I should probably use Rust instead of Minecraft for people like you, but that game isn't popular enough to get the point across.
Point being that those things just waste resources just to satisfy the masses of simpletons with an attention span of a flea. And considering the activities are optional, they most likely add very little or nothing at all to the depth of a game which, knowing Bethesda, is already conceived as "don't think about it too much".
Then again, these mini- or subgames probably aren't what OP meant since all he lists are relatively cheap and easy quick bits, and I'm all for arena fights
Moving on.
Wow. You're a charming person.
But I suppose I should have expected that from the kind of person who'd throw around tripe like "MineSims: Call of FalloutZ Effect "........
Also, from what I've seen of Minecraft and the original Sims (the only one I bothered to try once)? They don't really work well if you've got no attention span. Minecraft, particularly, takes a vast amount of time & persistence if you want to achieve anything. Most of the tower defense games I've played also tend to take concentration/etc - just in shorter amounts, since each level is a finite length.
...not that I think those games make a particularly good comparison to the "build a settlement" feature.
The gambling being illegal requires a centralized government. And even then, they probably have bigger problems to deal with.
I liked the card games, the fighting arena (being appreciated by Red Lucy), etc. Some of these are pure luck while others take some player skill. I would like something that combines both, a mini-game that is easier if my character in-game has the right skills. But yeah, things like this are harmless enough and shouldn't break the game.
Well keep in mind that if they make the game too good they should be selling it as a stand alone game and they are in the wrong genre of gaming, so I don't expect something really great.
