Fallout, not Funout. Where are the mini-games?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 9:00 am

Will time-wasters be making a return? Why not a target practice mini-game to earn some caps? More card/board games, even a homerun contest Fenway style. More arm wrestling, boxing, mutant dog fights where you place bets, etc. What are some of your ideas? Is that something you wanna see more of to change the pace?

When is Bethesda gonna get with the times?

Yeah, but those are more like easter eggs and all played on the pip-boy.

Cage fights, but we need more!

It would be an interesting addition (and a discrete nod to NV) if we could build an off-the-grid 'casino' in our settlement. A bit of illegal gambling after a hard day's scavenging and blowing limbs off of raiders never did anyone any harm :)

This would actually be quite an appropriate easter egg!

Yep, I want it all. If you have things to do in a settlement besides just trading, it makes the world seem alive.

Caravan, blackjack, pokies, roulette, mole rat racing, arena fights... give me it all.

God I hope not. If I wanted to play those sorts of mini games there are literally tens of thousands of free alternatives that are better done.

'Bot Fighting - like bull fighting but with robots. You could either participate, enter Codsworth as the 'bull', or just bet on which 'bot fighter (botarios) dies first. No projectile weapons for fighters or bots.

No, I rather them spend time and resources on ruins / exploration, than working on crappy mini games that I'll play once or twice, then never again.

Yes, but how many of these can you play whilst being chased by raiders?

You got so many caps just from playing its insane. By level 10 you can't spend it without splurging on stupid stuff, like GRA uniques.

Yeah. Cause I am totally going to play random mini games while being chased by dudes. Makes perfect sense.

Right. If you can play a quick game of solitaire or chequers while leaping from one piece of cover to another just before a grenade lands, and shooting over your shoulder as you do so, then you know you're hardcoe

Seriously, though, a few things like arena fights would be very easy for Bethesda to implement (it's just built-in melee combat AI, a bit of quest scripting and dialogue, an a location - way simpler than a full dungeon) and would be popular with a bunch of players.

The casino stuff might be harder, more model creation and more complex scripts, but probably not especially resource consuming.

Well, Mini-Games yes, but not in every corner .

I pretty much liked New Reno, back in FO2. It was filled with stuff to do and somehow I miss being a pro boxer and porm superstar .

Also I would love to see a return of some kind of arena. And due the Boston area -> Robot Wars :D.

Also I guess they won't include the boston marathon, due the RL events happened there. Totally understandable, but otherwise another thing to make a mini-game out of it.

Settlement building itself looks like it will be one hell of a mini-game that you can sink tons of time into. I imagine myself spending a lot of time just building crap to see what I can come up with.

Hell yes some well done mini games would be nice. Only, and ONLY if, they aren't half-assed. I'd love to see a collectible card game in the style of Gwent from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Think of all the characters and lore they have to draw from. There could be different decks for the different factions.

I kind of liked the little time wasters in Red Dead Redemption... Like 5 finger fillet, poker, liars dice, etc.... I also kind of enjoyed Caravan in fallout new Vegas... I wouldn't mind a new card game specific to boston/east coast. Though when it comes to mini-games, you should either go all in or not at all... Make them worth actually devoting time to. I think the holotape pipboy games will be interesting, and fun to play... kind of adds a little to the lore because now we know that in the fallout universe they evolved to more complicated games than text adventures.

There looks to be some type of fighting cage from the footage we've seen, hopefully we can fight in that as well as watch.

Also, those games are scattered throughout the world. I wouldn't call them Easter eggs considering they have to be collected.
