Post » Thu May 03, 2012 4:58 pm

Didn't see a thread about this.

So, Nuka Break, http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/waysidecreations/fallout-nuka-break-season-2-0
Anyone gonna donate?
I watched the first episode but I've yet to watch the other episodes, still, I really want to donate once I get money.

Never been interested in fanfic, especially one that's filmed. Somehow it makes - to me - the whole concept of the setting appear as sloppy and childish (kinda like if Game of Thrones was translated in an hour and a half highschool stageact). And even if I were interested, I - like Calgone - spent a good chunk of currency on Wasteland 2 already; and more over, I'm considering donating to Shadowrun if I ever find out what to expect from it (gameplaywise) before its Kickstarter is over, so no extra funds.

Well, it has 58 days left, so in case you have 10 bucks to spare during two months period of time you could always help chip in.
If not for you then for other Fallout fans who like Nuka Break.
That's mostly why I want to chip in with Leasure Suit Larry, I haven't played the games but I know others want to and it's a passion project for an old school genre.
After all, it's just 10 bucks.

Nah, I think I'll pass on putting money on something I have no interest in. I'm not generous or wealthy enough to invest for others' pleasure at my own expense. :P

It's also sad that Larry is a remake (second remake of the first game already, to be exact), otherwise I would've put money in it already.

I respect Nuka Break as a fan film, because by those standards it's pretty darn good and the team behind it is definitely talented. On the other hand I don't like how it treats the Fallout setting like a joke, more so than even Fallout 2 did, so I have no real desire to encourage these guys by helping them raise money for their project. Besides, I don't see the second season departing too much from the cartoonish formula we've seen so far, chances are it'll just be six more episodes of three incompetent people bickering among themselves while walking through a desert and eventually stumbling across a group of somehow even more incompetent goofballs of whom they manage to trick and proceed to escape from or lay waste to.

I think it is put together a bit better than some other fanfic vids i have seen out there.
They do a pretty decent job with sotry over all and have some pretty decent props and makeup for the ghouls.
I may just ahve to throw them a few bones.

They can acquire the funds to develop the second season but they can't sell anything like DVD's. It's a deal they have with Bethesda, they make no money afterwards and Beth doesn't sue.

ya.. I don't think theyre making profit on this.
Thought he guy that plays the ghoul in the protagonists party does the legal representation, so I would guess they did at least make sure what they are doing is legal.

They supported it actually. And Obsidian put in a Unique weapon the "Nuka Breaker" named after them.

Which makes sense considering its incredible advertising for them. Assuming the creators don't start making significant profits of the series, they should be fine.

Maybe Bethesda could chip in :tops:

I am sure $60,000 is just their petty cash fund, you know for donuts and coffee, things like that. Whatever the fans don't raise themselves they could make up the difference. Imgine Bethesda developers showing up for a cameo. Better yet Obsidian devs. Chris Avellone playing a http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Chris_Avellone_(Fallout)by the same name :tops:

Ehh....too much corporate investment and then they start to get to make the calls on direction.

Eventually it stops being a fan-film and starts being an official production.

Yep, and eventually, with too much production, it'd do a disservice to the franchise by being an advert, and a lousy one.

If it wasnt for the fact that a tenner is all itll take to put me into the "not enough rent money and no food left" area of disposable cash id be much more willing to donate stuff to people

How are they allowed to use the Fallout licence commercially to make money (i mean who's gonna check what they really do for the money)?

Bethesda really agreed to this (doesnt say anything on their Kickstarter page)? I Liked the series though, just curious how the license thing works.

They don't earn money.
They used fan-funding before and Bethesda didn't seem to care.
And yes, Bethesda liked Nuka Break, as to if they like the way it's funded though...
Still, it's not something they profit from, so I fail to see why Betheda should sue free quality advertisemant.

Again, who's checking they dont earn money? Just saying. I like Nuka Break too.. just never seen anything like this before, really cool of Bethesda if they indeed agreed to it, if they didn't i'd be very careful i were them.

I suppose Bethesda's lawyers make sure they don't use Fallout for their own profit without a contract with Bethesda.
Quite easy really, they used fanfunding for Season 1, so they just have to see whether they made profit off of that season or not, if not, then they'll likely not profit from Season 2.
Either way, the lawyers just need to check up on a couple of things, make sure they don't use Bethesda's property to earn money off of and it's fine.

That is true. But lets say they fell $5000 short, and Bethesda made up that diference. Would that still be to much? What if a company like Obsidian donated money would that count as fans? Then again I doubt they have the ability to donate money right now.

And I am sure there is some legal stuff I am missing.

Edit: Seems like they will make it, they went up $10,000 in the last couple of days since I checked :fallout:

How can any Fallout fan enjoy this garbage? I really cannot stand how they treat the source material.
