Fallout 4: One of the greatest games I've played

Post » Mon Jan 25, 2016 4:40 am

Oh right. I had heard about that, but never actually use it, LOL.

Actually, now that you mention it, THAT strikes me as a bug: companions who can pick any lock!? What is the point of locksmith perks then!?

. . . damn, now I have a bug I have to report . . .

Or wait . . . are you saying that it was a bug in the original vanilla game that got corrected with a patch??

agreed with the title, it's possibly the best game of 2015, but compared with older bethesda titles maybe it's not so good, it's still a master piece, but not the best one.

I think if I remember correctly the bug wasnt that he could pick any lock, but that because the Cryolater wasnt in a locked item, rather being locked behind an object, dogmeat could ignore the lock and grab it as it is physically in the game world, rather than in an object.

Pure nostalgia to think previous titles were better. Around since the days of Morrowind.

As for this being the best title. I don't know. I put 600 hours in and that in itself says something. But now I kind of ran out of steam. I will pick it up again, once the GECK is released and some serious patching takes place. Has been that way with every Beth game. They kept me glued to the screen for weeks on end and suddenly there was that feeling of nothing new on the horizon.

You could always think of it as having spent 9.17 pence (british currency) per hour of enjoyment! Beats spending £12 for a movie at the cinemas for 2 hours (£6.00 per hour by comparison).

I'd hate to see the criticism of a game that the OP didn't like, then.

Well the point is that if you dislike a game then your criticisms will revolve around topics integral to that game, IE it is the games core features more likely than anything. For example I can say I dislike Call of Duty because of its fast paced shooting gameplay style, but thats a system integral to that game so it'd make absolutely no sense for me to go and voice those opinions on their forums (there not going to change that pace, its the essence of that game). Not saying this is always the case BTW, just what I would imagine is more likely.

If you enjoy a game your criticisms will instead direct itself to the meat on the bones. Take NervousHabits criticisms about the games explorable areas needing more quests, thats him having played and paid attention to the game and noticing something that might have improved the game that much more.

600 Hours - 400 Hours only doing Settlement Things = 200 Hours Playtime with Playthrough of all Factions and almost all Sidequests. 200 Hours for Open World Game from Bethesda? Sry, iam just disappointed. I expected more. :sadvaultboy:

Actually it's only obtainable if you use a very specific cheat (okay, exploit) with Dogmeat which I am sure that they will end up patching eventually so it really may not be considered all that high of a priority for early game play.

:P I don't know what it costs in Russia, we'll just say $60. The game was released on 10 November? 2015. It is now 21 Jan 2016. That is a sum total of:

Nov 30 - 10 = 20 days

Dec 31 days

Jan = 20.75 days (currently 18:14 hours on my part of the planet)

That tallies up to 71.75 total possible days of play

24 hours/day * 71.75 = 1,722 total possible hours of play.

600 / 1722 = 34.8%

So, you spent $60, and get a product that has kept you engaged for 35% of the time during the last 2+ months and you expected "more!?"

Assuming 8 hours of sleep per day (and that we are all trust fund recipients and don't have to work or go to school) that puts the "total possible hours of play" down to only 16/day or (16*71.75 = 1,148) in total.

600/1148 = 52.3% of all walking hours since the game was released! and assuming NO work or school or any other time spent doing anything (bedpan emptying from time to time, assumed) . . . yeah, a real disappointment to be sure.

We should all ask for our money back. The game is a complete failure! After all, it didn't literally consume our souls and teleport us into an extra-dimensional space where we can play the game for eternity and never lose a second back here in reality! :P

NOT a good time in history to be investing in 'traditional games' like mumbly peg or checkers I'd say; the standards are just https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyiuuZB3FIo

I never said iam from Russia, it just says near Russia :)

I took the 600 Hours as Example of my Percentage Playtime to make it easier. I just told my Playtime in another Thread and do you know what? Instead of Complaining about Content of Fallout, Users just start Complaining about my Playtime. It was even less than 200 Hours.

We talk about a Triple A Game from Bethesda. Did they made many Triple A Open World Games with less than 200 Hours Playtime? Just unexpected.

Btw the "cryolator" bug affects all npcs who have been dismembered near an object. If they intersect anything when the game reassembles their corpse they get stuck in the wall/floor and don't react. You can't loot them unless you break a chunk off.

Fair enough, and I don't mean to pick on you. But I think even at 60 hours, the "value" a user has gained is rather high relative to comparable consumer products in the same price range.

Usually to get hundreds or thousands of hours of use out of a product you must spend literally several hundred dollars. Clothing and building materials are an exception to that, but those are more like "essentials" than luxury items. Also many such products have various 'maintenance or upkeep needs' that a computer game doesn't have, other than electricity use and patching/updating.

Why not? I could complain about several of my most favourite games just as much and I wouldn't even have to resort to nitpicking.

because there is nothing in his post that supports the thread title. His title and actual thread share two entirely different thoughts

Thread title and post content incongruity were obviously intentional. Don't think it was flamebait or "trolling" but was certainly intended to be 'provocative' I suspect :P

All well and good. Also one of my fav games ever, but I could easily fill whole browser scroll bars with petty complaints and criticisms. Same is true for any "masterpiece." Perfection is unattainable even in the most rigorous of endeavours. Heisenberg uncertainty principle and all that . . .

probably just trying for sarcasm, but that'sa lot harder to pull off with written text. Otherwise iI'd agee with provocation being the reason. The title was designed to draw in people who would disagree with him

I think that unlike Skyrim, this game doesn't have a lot of variety of fetch quests, so you don't really care about exploring an area, and there is no purpose in exploring those area. In Skyrim, even without the fetch quests, you still want to explore the ruins hoping to find a shout in there somewhere. In this game, most of the powerful weapons can be crafted and found through venders and quests, no need to really explore the ruins. Still, I like this game a lot better than Skyrim. The characters, especially the NPCs have more personality and fun to interact with instead of random NPCs that get killed. I actually feel bad about killing NPCs like Haylen. In Skyrim, I wouldn't care less if the Assassin guild sends me to kill the entire population of the game. They are all very static.

The world isn't black and white. Imagine that some people can love something and still provide criticism. I know that's completely unimaginable, blasphemy even, for some posters here, but that's how rational people think.

It's worth it's money, no debate about that. It's only, calling it the best game of 2015, is a matter of taste. I for one would have a different nominee. But that's obviously a matter of my tastes.

Chang all those "you" to "I" in your post and your pretty spot on. I think the mistake people are making is in assuming fallout is meant to be skyrims with guns. Though they share some common traits, they're different games that play differently. And some people will prefer one style while others prefer another

that is one of the dumbest things I've read, and nothing to do with my point. I at no time said or even suggest he shouldn't criticize the game. Just that the title was misleading and had nothing to do with his post.
