Fallout Online - only a month left

Post » Sun Aug 02, 2009 12:04 pm

Specific requirements were stated in the agreement that if not met, gamesas would immediately lose and forfeit its license rights for Fallout. Development must begin within 24 months of the date of the agreement (April 4, 2007), and gamesas must secure $30 million within that time frame or forfeit its rights to license. gamesas must furthermore launch the MMOG within 4 years of the beginning of development, and pay Bethesda 12 percent of sales and subscription fees for the use of the IP.

Looks like there's only one month left to the project's official announcement or complete demise.

Anyone think they'll be able to pull it off? The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

I think so. I reckon they're just stalling for as much time as possible. They have a hellofa project on their hands, every day counts.

I'm also happy to wait until 2013 if that's how long it takes. And in that time I can decide whether or not I like MMOs :p -Formerly FalloutChris. But apparently was confused with Chris Taylor :p

Guess we will know soon enough - I think its pretty obvious that they are going to give it a good shot and even if they lose the Fallout IP to be honest who cares

Whos to say that V13 cant be a post apocalyptic MMO with no ties to fallout whatsoever after all its just a name. Wasteland MMO maybe?? As far as im concerned it could be called anything and id buy it because im pretty damn sure with minds like Chris Taylor on board they could leave out all the fallout related stuff covered by IP and still come out with a cracking good MMO. And if they do at least they arent losing 12 percent to Bethsoft. I say leave the Fallout to Beth i know alot of you think the game that must not be named svcked but it brought a whole new market to the world of post apocalyptia. Even with Fallout as the name I think fans from the Bethesda and The gamesas fanboxes will come to it in Droves because the theme is the core of the game.

The truth is we have no idea and I think that even if they started from scratch with no Fallout content they have a shot.

So to the DEV team if its not a fallout MMO for V13 please just make it a damn good Post Apocalyptic MMO cause lately the MMO world is not giving us anything new to play with. WoW hasnt changed much even with Lich King. UO is Crap. Tabula Rasa is dead and Buried and none of the Big media name MMO IPs can cut it (Matrix, Star Wars etc etc.) Give us something groundbreaking and brilliant and even think the diehard fallout fans here will still play it.

Cheers

Fury

i hope they fail, the whole mmo thing, well eh...
on the other hand they could do a spiritual successor for fallout. id prefer that rather than an mmo. So youre telling me FO3 is better than the first two? Okay i respect your opinion. Can we step outside for a sec?

I have to agree here. Yes, I would like to see gamesas grow into a huge company and regain the rights to Fallout, but if they can't and still make this MMO, I have faith that they will do a fantastic job.

After all they made some of my favorite childhood games.

Well I'm 100% sure that FalloutMMO has already started development. They likely started last year. Also the listed term of the contract has nothing to so with announcing it to the public. As long as Bethesda knows development has started they gamesas has obliged to that agreement.

As for money. They don't need the 100% cash immidiatly. They need to have the 30m secured. So as long as they have the papers from various companies stating that they are investing for a total of 30m. Then that part of the agreement is also met. If a company down the road bails out then that's another matter. Likely gamesas will have an extension to refill the 30m assured amount. So more that likely gamesas has already passed on some "assured" numbers to Beth already.

As for making the 4 year release. Well if they are writing this game from scratch then we can expect a last contract day of release with likely a hell a lot of bugs. If they follow the WoW development route of hand crafting everything then we could end up with a empty world. If they follow the current model I feel V13/FOMMO will likely not make it.

So there is still hope? :D I'm sure they test it first before let us play it, if bugs, they fix it. I hope they do the best! I rather go to the Wasteland than living in this TIN CAN!

I personally would much rather see a Fallout game with multiplayer capabilities than a MMO. I don't like MMOs for two reasons.

1) They take all day to accomplish something relatively small in the scale of an MMO.

2) They have a monthly upkeep.

I can't remember off the top of my head if it has to be an MMO or not, but, I don't think they need to as they already have sold me on their gaming instincts

It has to be an MMO, that's the license gamesas currently own. A multiplayer/co-op could still deduce to a single player experience, and that would be a license infringement.

I will be willing to give this MMO a chance, esspecially when Chris Taylor is at the forefront. I'm no blind consumer, but Black Isle proved to me their gaming prowess, and Project V13 has my faith at least. -Formerly FalloutChris. But apparently was confused with Chris Taylor :p

Well I'm more of the opinion that it could be a successful product for anyone who would appreciate it. I mean if people express your attitude to this kindof project as a pre-development, then something like this will probably go completely under your radar, and wont matter if you choose not to take an interest. It's not afterall, being agressively advertised as a series sequel with a big fat "3" in front of it. -Formerly FalloutChris. But apparently was confused with Chris Taylor :p

and a big fat FAIL in front of it? anyway as much as i hate mmos it is still fallout, and most importantly made by gamesas, so it cant fail. im just saying id rather play a spinoff of the original. under a different name yes, which may lead to losing money by gamers that dont know the games origin, but then if its an mmo they still lose potential buyers.[me for example(and it seems docterj208 is on the same path, and who knows how many more) if its monthly payment and it most likely will, how else would they keep the servers and administration]. get my point? So youre telling me FO3 is better than the first two? Okay i respect your opinion. Can we step outside for a sec?

So it's still going since some points of contract has met.
As for month fee, it's depressing but I'm willing to buy it when it comes out. Assuming it's better than WoW. I do understand meaning of month fee to keep servers up and so on.

I just wonder what will be it's name?
