Fallout 4: Pass or Fail?

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 6:03 am

I'm really sick of all the complaint threads, so yea this is me complaining about complaining. It cracks me up how people can invest over 100 hrs, restart the game several times and then whine like babies about how this game is so bad and has no replayability xD

this is a simple question...is this game worth the price ($60)?

my opinion is that Bethesda is held to a higher standard, but when it comes down to direct comparability to the other games out there for the same price, there is no comparison...

It is Bethesda that has to DOWNGRADE their expectations because the standard price for a game is 60 bucks, but Bethesda is hardly standard when it comes to their games...

if anything, they set the standard

Did you not for once think, people complain because they want the game to be better? I mean people care about the series and brand and view some of the changes and how Fallout 4's story is to be bland and uninteresting. I personally wish they would stop making games large as an ocean and as deep as a puddle.

I definitely think it's been worth the price. But, then, I don't agree with the "OMG, games so expensive!" narrative that some people have been pushing the last few years.

It was 拢40 for me, I spend 拢40 in the pub after work sometimes if I've had a crap day. A lot of the things people complain about could easily be fixed in a patch, that's why we winge, in the hope it gets fixed. Bethesda are a big successful company they don't need people to defend them, let's us winge so they can fix the things we're complaining about. 馃槂

Played the game for some 88 hours (haven't been playing for several days now tho, waiting for my new GPU) and altho I complain about things that bothers me, by and large, I like the game, for what it is. If we didn't complain about the less optimal things, and keep the developers on their toes, they might grow complacent, hehe! B)

No hurt in wanting the game to be better, and it doesn't equate to the game being a failure, just because one complains about things.

I know people hate the whole 'the mod community will take care of it" excuse, but the fact still remains: the mod community will take care of it.

I don't claim to have inside info of Bethesda's meetings or anything like that, but I am more concerned with the 'base' they've created that is going to be available to the modding community. I guess we won't know the details on that until the creation kit comes out. I do have a few gripes about this and dialogue options, but I feel it just depends on what you want to focus on. There are a lot of things about this game I like more than the previous ones. Some of them being:

-grenade hot key

-sprinting

-real time battle seems to be a lot better

-very dense world with action around every corner, a lot of random events

-multi layer armor system, new power armor, new extensive crafting/mods

-settlements (yes i know there's still a few bugs to hammer out)

-new perk system (old skill system was broken imo)

-new VATS

-new dialogue mechanics (strictly speaking of mechanics not actual options)

-new companion mechanics (sure, some more improvements could be made here)

-voiced protagonist w/cinematic camera

-better weather, lighting, and color (much more immersive atmosphere)

(i'm sure i'm leaving stuff out)

The time spent on a game (and sometimes needed to make a comprehensive evluation of it to ones self) is often directly reltated to its size and scope. Bigger games take more time to open up and reveal their innards. I felt I got more bang for my buck with my 25 hour Alpha Protocol runthrough than I got from around 100 hours of Skyrim (yeah, it takes a bit more time with that sort of game to realize that it really isn't getting any better).

I haven't bought Fallout 4 nor put 100+ hours in it. Nor will I. It doesn't look to be worth it. It's a fail.

But there's this sort of odd thing with these types of games that if you haven't played it for X amount, you're not eligible to criticise it (for the lack of experience); and when you have that X amount under your belt, you've played it so much that you must've liked it on some level and your criticism becomes hypocrisy. :P

I've um, put like 170 hours in the game...that's sort of embarrassing. Anyways, I definitely agree with Angry Gamer's review (or whatever he's called). It's an amazing game with superb attention to detail that is a blast to play - but it really needs to be the last BGS game on this engine.

lol is a game that i have already spend more that 100hs, ofcurse is a pass. Is better that Fo3 ofcurse, is better the FoNV for me yeah is better could use a little more love on the dialogues options. Voice protagonist, make me feel more connect to my PC, i wish i could choose different voices, but i can live with only 1.

The game have issues yeah it does. But alot of the complain i have see so far, aside for the technical ones, are more like what ppl hope they will get and they didnt. Is like kid complain about a gift they get.

It should be noted that unlike other Fallout games, this one continues after the main quest. It's entirely plausible to build a character that can beat the game in about 25-30 hours and even with just those 25 to 30 hours, the game would still be worth it to play through.

i really doubt they will leave the engine, they will keep improving and improving over it. I mean if we see Skyrim and Fo4 technical improve the engine was improve ALOT.
