Try right clicking and "run as administrator" this is often a procedure you should get used to with vista, and is often needed when extracting/installing from patches.

Hope that solves it :) -Formerly FalloutChris. But apparently was confused with Chris Taylor :p

Hm, I'm a little confused. I assume you're refering to the Official patch, version1.02? No 'installation' needs to take place, the files just need to be extracted to your Fallout2 folder, and they will immediately work from there. I'm on Vista 32 and I've had no problems with this procedure. Not sure how it would affect 64 though.

If you can figure out a way to manualy extract/unzip the files then drag them into your Fallout2 folder, you should be good to go. You should be able to treat most patches the same way. Speaking of patches:

There is also a manual version of that patch if the installer doesn't work for you. That unofficial patch fixes even more bugs for an even better experience. And it was created by Killap, so you can be sure it's of the best quality. -Formerly FalloutChris. But apparently was confused with Chris Taylor :p

the official patch is an exe which auto installs the patch so yes it does install. there is no way ive found to extract the patch000.dat to get the files out to do a manual install.

i'll give the unofficial patch a go.

thanks

Ahhh yes, as I see it, it is a .exe. That might be a prompt for a self-extractor though. If you have any extracting software, winrar, winzip etc, you should be able to manually remove the files yourself.

I apologise for this oversight.

As for the unofficial patch, I think it was assumed to run on an already patched version. It should work on its own, but I imagine the problems it addresses are an extension rather than a sole solution. If you ever manage to successfully extract the official patch files I would still incorporate them. And it's as easy as removing/deleting the files from your Fallout2 directory to revert back to a previous version, if you ever felt the need.

Either way, I hope you enjoy the experience, whether it is your first or not :) -Formerly FalloutChris. But apparently was confused with Chris Taylor :p
