Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition Not making more because of quality

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 7:41 pm

I find this dumb in all ways bethesda announces a collectors edition and now some people can't even get one. I think this is rather a bad thing because i knew on the day this came out i wouldn't have my chance to get one. oh look on Ebay Their selling your product for 400-500 bucks how messed up is this? This does not stop me from still purchasing the game i think bethesda needs to make more of these and not play this sold out thing, because really what's the point of a collectors edition if you can't even get one. So what do you think of this?

The point is if your a fallout fan, you'd want a pip-boy so i dont see no point why you couldn't get the limited edition.

I have read that more than a few people are having problems with the pipboy edition, and having encountered no end myself, I thought i would do a little research. It has been enlightening.

Most people are putting the blame in the wrong place.

Firstly, Bethesda vastly underestimated how popular it would be. They did no research, just decided on an arbitary number for release. The original release number has been expanded, but only by a nominal amount, as the November date precludes time to manufacture and distribute.

Neither Bethesda nor any 'in country' resellers put in place any limits on the numbers of units people could order. This meant that when the initial release went up, many people ordered multiple copies. I was told by an employee of bethesda that many individuals had ordered dozens of copies. All of these of course, just end up on Ebay at two or three times the release price, and us the fans, get royally sc*****'d. Unfortunately many will buy from ebay and make sure that these opportunistic snakes continue to ruin limited releases for evermore.

Regarding Game UK, and cancelled orders, they are for a number of reasons. Non UK residents have had their orders cancelled as Bethesda reseller agreements prevent them selling across territories. While this should have been clear at the time of order, they are now rectifying their error. They are also now reviewing multi orders and cancelling ones that they deem are for resale, although they wont say what the parameters are. Regaining a little face...maybe.

So in short, Bethesda didnt plan numbers, didnt plan or limit the release, and continue to show contempt for their fans by not really explaining to us all what is really going on.

Go Bethesda! great job!

DONT BUY THIS FROM EBAY!

if we dont buy, the pre orders will get cancelled and resold through legitimate channels, and maybe just maybe Bethesda and others will think about the fans next time instead of just the bottom line!

If you're a Fallout fan you'd want Fallout 4 to be released now... the players/fans whim shouldn't supersede everything (contrary to their games). This is a COLLECTORS edition, which would be redundant if every fallout fan had one (or most).

Another pip boy thread. serious, they were available long enough if you really wanted one, you could of order one. They got restocked through out the week at some retailers, so stop blaming Bethesda because you decided to wait, till they were sold out and announced that no more where being made.

Exactly like Outlaw said. I got mine in the us four days after release so there was plenty of time if you were a true fan. I have played this series since fallout 1, even played tactics. I got a pip boy and I was late on the grab. To bad so sad.......

Collectors Editions are always limited in number.....first come, first served. Sad for those who are willing to be overcharged for plastic phone holder, but since the point of Fallout 4 is the game, not the end of the world.

So if your a fallout fan you must want a cheap molded plastic phone holder....... :stare:

Erm.....no not really, its nice but it is in no way essential unless your an avid collector of merchandise or one of those people who like to dress up when they play games. :bonk:

Well anyway on to the next new Pip boy edition topic, since there are probably been a few as I type this out.

Jesus, it's just a phone holder? I thought at least those buttons have some function. Then it's totally not worth it.

The appeal is more for collection than function.

It's a nice gem for collectors.

I guess people are used to the over glorified preorder "limited edition" versions of games. The pip boy eddition is probably no different, but it is in the sense limited by its slightly more complicated design and by the manufacturer. Although personally I suspect they may order more to be manufactured after release. What convinces me that this CE will gain value is all the people who are going to want to open it and play with the pip boy, sort of like the nintendo power glove. only some people are going to leave it in a collectible condition. At least that is what I think, I could be wrong. Personally I was going to buy two so that I could have one to keep in perfect condition and another to play around with, but I had hard enough time just placing an order for one.

There is an app coming for phones that will interact with the game apparently, which will look quite nice in the pipboy..........and will probably be abandoned by almost everybody after using it a few times. :D

Yeah, its a good one for collectors.......which I'm not, so I wasn't exactly crushed by my inability to order it from the sole UK stockist.

If you go on Esty's website, there are some people who make 3D printed Pip-Boys that work with cell phones. So if you did not get the CE, you could still order one from the custom designers. However, they are a bit more expensive.

I really don't understand the people that ordered one of these to actually use while playing. Having that bulky awkward thing on your arm is going to lose it's novelty real quick, especially since it will almost certainly be easier to use the in-game pip-boy. To each their own I guess, but it just seems way too impractical.

Probably not cost effective for them to produce the standard of quality they want to the mass market? The price alone on the limited version was a big hint on their production v. profit margin bottom line.

Would you rather they went ahead and sold a crappy pipboy mold made of the cheapest plastic? One that would eventually crack and fall apart a couple weeks after purchasing it? Imagine how pissed off the fan base would be then.

Besides, what's wrong with making your own for free? some of the best collector's memorabilia come from cosplay items made by rabid fans. Just check out some of the authentic looking cosplay merchandise at Beth's E3 showcase here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KApp699WdE

@ 8:00 : the home made pip boy on that utility suit wearing fan. Almost identical to Beths minus all the high tech functionality. But it looks like you could fit your smartphone into the one he's wearing. He even brought nuka cola and SPECIAL book. Very detailed.

@ 1:05:53 that blonde guy who's cosplaying in the ranger armor suit right after Todd Howard is announced and comes on stage. If Beth were including ranger armor gear in the limited ed, then this would've been pretty damn close to the real deal imo.

And there was a LOT more cosplaying fan made stuff that couldn't be streamed for the obvious time constraints.

I don't know why Bethesda didn't do the pipboy as a store bought item from them and have an art book, music CD and other collectors items in the collectors edition.

I have to say I'm against the concept of art books or soundtracks being walled off by collector's editions. I find art books way too interesting to think that they should go only to the 10,000 or whatever that bought that version. That's part of the reason I like Bioshock Infinite so much, it had the savvy to realize that they can and should just publish the art book as a stand alone thing that you can buy.

A Pip-Boy comes off much more as a collector's item to me, and as such makes sense to be in the collector's edition.

Bethesda's fault that partner resellers were indiscriminate? Don't think so.

Game UK tried to address international and bulk orders, good for them.

More copies are not made by magic.

As Bethesda put it, they don't own a factory...

Totally agree, many people have missed the Skyrim artbook because it was a CE exclusive. Another method which I find acceptable is what Ubisoft is doing with the art of Assassin's Creed: the CE contains a mini-artbook which complements the statue, litographs etc but the real, big artbook is for sale separately and pretty cheap and widely available (the artbook of AC3 from 2012 is still available on stores like Amazon). TES and Fallout are too big franchises with huge fanbase, artbooks should be largely available to anyone.

I wouldn't mind at least a special edition with just the art book and a soundtrack (someone suggested a metal casing as well if you really want that). Or you know, pull off a CD Projekt RED and just give the soundtrack for free with every normal copy.

As for the OP, there are many like you with the same complaints, but quite frankly, the only thing that can be said is: you should have gotten one while you could. Because there was a time where a lot of people were able to secure one, be they fans or the folk that sell them on eBay. That's how these things work.

They have to stop producing them some time and what's the point of a collectors edition if everyone has one? It's suposed to be special and, at least somewhat, rare.

Bethesda obviously hired someone to make these pip-boys and it costs them money.
