Fallout 4 Pip Boy edition scalping

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 11:06 am

And so it began,

It wasn't even a day and the Pip Boy edition of fallout 4 was completely sold out. Retailers like GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon had copies sell out in hours, leaving thousands of lifetime fans high and dry. (without being able to secure a collectors edition)

Upon searching sites like Ebay, one quickly sees what transpired. It seems individuals took it upon themselves to buy multiple copies on every platform and then relisting them on Ebay, jacking up the price to nearly $400 in some cases (dropped down to $249). This is just wrong. Scouring the internet, one will find many posts by disappointed fans that missed out due to this greedy grab.

I'm the proud owner of Fallout 3's collectors edition with the lunch box tin and bobble head. To this day I've got it and the Fallout New Vegas ones displayed on my book shelves....yes....where books should be.

The reason for this post is to petition release of more Pip Boy Editions, so that those of us that didn't have the opportunity to get one, can do so. This also undermines the selfish attempts of these scalpers to sell a seemingly limited supply of a product that has not yet been released. I'm sure there are many other examples of this happening.

Not releasing more copies further perpetuates the scalping craze and secures the scalpers unethical monetary gain, screwing Bethesda out of sales and the fans out of collectors edition copies.

Sure some of you may not agree with any of this, and that's fine, but to reiterate, this post is mainly for those of us that did not get the opportunity to buy a collectors edition of the game that we've been salivating over since that countdown weeks ago, announcing it's release. (But mainly to geek out with our Pip Boys)

It would be great to hear from someone at Bethesda on this issue. Thank you for your time and consideration Bethesda, and thanks for making this highly anticipated sequel to an already amazing series. We're very excited!

Sincerely

One very ecstatic Vault Dweller.

I've waited for this game for years, and have been enthralled by its announcement. I'm behind you, I love Fallout and I'd really like the chance to buy a Pip Boy Edition.

It's not great, maybe they should have a link on the forums for a place to buy or something so the people who care see it first and can get themselves a copy?

I managed to get myself a copy, it involved me having one 3 hour sleep in between the E3 conference and them going on sale, and I still got one of the last ones. It's pretty annoying they didn't even announce what time they would be going up or where you could buy them. As a UK customer, I spent ages checking Amazon and then accidently clicked on the GAME link at one point and realised they were GAME exclusive.

What was the situation in other countries? Retailer exclusive?

The best way to deal with scalpers is not to buy from them...let them get stuck with an item they most likely bought just to make a quick buck on.

I, too, hope they release more of the collectors editions. I can't imagine they won't, considering how fast they sold out.

Waiting and watching.

Well, HumerusUsername1, the Collector editions weren't even sold in Canada, and I couldn't get one at all. (North-Western United States)

I'm with you and very disappointed no more are available. I have Skyrim & FNV collector editions and really wanted to add this to my collection. Hopefully BGS will see the demand and produce more.

Gotta love when people want something this bad but don't do what they needed to do to make sure they got there's. Not to be a turd but you should've had every etailers browser open during E3 and after and pounced.

And there's nothing wrong with Ebayers making a profit.

Same here. I was so dejected when I found out it had sold out so quickly, and it only got worse when I saw all those scalpers on ebay. Got lucky at best buy though...maybe. Best buy has over pre-ordered before so I still might not get it.... Kinda worried.

Petitions aren't allowed here although this is something that should be brought to Bethesda's attention.

I totally agree I could not even login to the Bethesda store and when I finally got in it was sold out. I also am very outraged that a fan can't get one but scalpers buy them all and now ebay has 3 pages of them for $250 - $450. This is BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Considering that this happens with virtually every collector's edition game (and game system, and action figure, and......), no one is surprised by this. Not the customers, not the clerks at Gamestop, not the publishers. Nothing new.

(and if they just made more.... then the scalpers would likely just buy Even More. Unless they made so many that it's no longer even a "limited" collector's edition, and stacks of them are sitting on shelves months later, marked down. And yeah, I've seen that at times in the past with other games. Might even lose some sales from the "serious" collector types who no longer care if the item in question is produced in too high quantity.)

disclaimer - I don't have a horse in this race, as I neither sell things for a markup on eBay, nor do I buy collector's editions of games.

Nobody had any way of knowing that there would be so few copies available. And considering that most people on here have lives, you know, jobs, families, and such, we can't all spend every moment watching our monitrs waiting for it to become available. It would been nice if they'd mentioned at E3 when that would be. Or just how exclusive the item was.

Just thought I'd throw in you can still buy them from the GAME.co.uk website, not sure how much it costs to ship abroad though

I'm indifferent if this was the CE Edition. I was hoping for an art book, making of and so on. If all it has is a Pipboy case to shove our phones into, I'll just do without. It was nice, but not what I look for in a CE.

Man, something like the All roads graphic novel to fill some gaps between Fallouts 3 and 4 would've been really nice to see. To this day, that was my favorite thing I've gotten in a CE.

I managed to preorder one off Amazon the other day.

As much as I love having something exclusive... I certainly don't want to support scalpers. I'd like to see more of these made.
