Fallout 3 Plot questions?

Post » Sun May 23, 2010 5:25 am

Is there any mention of foreign countries in fallout 3, or is it completely America oriented? Have traders and Americans not attempted to travel to other countries in search of resources and goods? Why are they continuing to live in a nuclear dump when they dont know whether the neighbouring countries are in a better state than them or not? Surely it would be human nature to explore, and find the best conditions for yourself as a civilization? Set up trade lines etc.

If Allistair Tenpenny came from the UK, how the hell did he get to America? Is there any mention of that? And.. if he came from the UK, then why aren't Americans travelling aswell? Nobody seems to talk about the world outside America. And nobody seems to reminisce about the world before the great war.

I have so many questions and noticeable gaps in what should be a solid plot.

There are hundreds (exaggeration) of plot holes in Fallout 3 that are really quite silly and make you question how some things even happened. Though, I find it better for me just not to think about it, because whenever I believe I have come up with something logical, I find a hole in that, too.

You just gotta think 'A wizard did it' and move on, or you'll lose the will to live.

Well, as for other countries. Most likely Canada and Mexico are in a similar state, since they're so close. Tenpenny must have come on a ship. Most probably the only ship journey to ever take place after the War.

China is often mentioned in-game, so that completely diffuses your 'Nobody seems to talk about the world outside America' statement. Also, recall that DC is not near any borders, a trip to a border would take very long. And once there, if the condition was better or worse, no one would return to tell everyone else about it.

If you listen to the Enclave Radio, Eden often talks about the days before the War. Also, you learn about how things were just before the bombs dropped (and during it) from dozens of in-game Holotapes. Some of which can be found in Lamplight Caverns, some in the Police HQ, there are several more. You seldom see humans talking about how it was before the War, because it has been 200 years since the event. No one is alive. Whoever is, is a Ghoul. Namely Carol in Underworld, who talks about life before the War, if you ask her.

Hopefully, this answers some of the issues you brought up. But you and I both know, aside from these, there are several dubious topics. For those, simply put; it's a Video Game, use 'suspension of disbelief'. :D

Nevermind Tenpenny. Colin Moriarty managed to keep an Irish accent without ever being from/to Ireland (that we are told) and his ancestors must have lived in America for generations. Anyways it would be boring if it was just Americans. Nothing against Americans, it just makes characters more memorable and unique. In terms of never hearing about the world, maybe few know about it as education seems to be lacking in the wastes. Make up your own excuse.

Heh heh, that's true. If I recall correctly, there are only two schools in the entire Capital Wastelande: Republic of Dave's and Little Lamplight's... neither are going to provide much of an education, especially Dave's.

If you start thinking about missing plots in this game (The game is ace that depend how you play it) you will never get to sleep and later on you loose interest in the game.
