Strength: Carry weight and melee weapon damage

Perception: Weapon accuracy in VATS and "environmental awareness"

Endurance: HP and sprinting AP cost

Charisma: effects how likely you are to pass speech checks and barter price

Intelligence: effects EXP gained

Agility: Action points and sneak

Customizing weapons looks pretty unreal but saw no "skill" checks when having to actually build something. Meaning, as long as we have the right "ingredient" you have the "skill" to build it?? Sounds like alchemy but Fallout style, meaning you don't know the "recipe" till you put a few "ingredient" together??

I voted for number 3. Anyway I uh... I liked that the T-51b and Fallout 2/New Vegas Enclave power armor is apparently in the game.

Outside of that I found the presentation lackluster. Nothing blew me away, and there were some pretty big red flags like the voiced protagonist, no skills being shown, and Super Mutants, the Brotherhood (and evidently the Enclave if their power armor is present) being in Boston.

Are you serious?

A speech skill means there's an accurate measurement of when you succeed or not. There's a variance, where a 60 speech character might succeed ~60% of the time.
A perk? You either fail 100% of the time or 0% of the time based on whether you have the perk or not. There's no middle ground. It'd be stupid as hell.

If there aren't speech checks they can be Charisma checks. Or Intelligence checks. Or perk checks. Or even karma checks.

I don't care if they dumped skills, I care if there's less things to do. Hell, same goes for character diversity; my characters are different because of the things they do, not the things they can't do. Dumping skills does exactly what I thought it would do; make SPECIAL and perks more important.

Now show us some perks, Bethesda.

Combat looks much more fluid. Hopefully enemy AI has been improved from Skyrim. JETPACKS!? :bonk:

Looks like I'm fanboying, but at this stage can you see another game which will last as long as this for the purchase? I can't

Let's take bets on whether or not the AI is good enough to actually fight back reasonably if you use a jetpack.

If skills are cut then wtf Bethesda...

How did it go? How did it go?

I was in the audience. I was shaking at parts of Todd's presentation.

It was incredible. Beyond expectations.

And we have enemies coming out of the ground like deathclaws. That certainly would be a surprise encounter.

I don't think there always 2 or 3 words long, I think that's just how there listed. The character will in reality say a much longer sentence. But yeah I'm not a fan of it either

I'm glad action point based sprint is now in the game, like in Project Nevada

So it looks like they pulled a reverse Skyrim, instead of no attributes, this time there's no skills.

I predicted as such before.

You missed my point.

My point was I think including character checks PERIOD in this new system seems like it'd be work. Bethesda svcks with speech as a skill already. I do not picture them using any checks at all in dialog. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I don't care if they dumped perks, I care if there's less things to do. Hell, same goes for character diversity; my characters are different because of the things they do, not the things they can't do. Dumping perks does exactly what I thought it would do; make SPECIAL more important.

Hard to say, as overall I'm not sure what to think. No doubt it looks like a solid game, a very fun one at that. But...I just don't know what to think of it when looking at it as a Fallout game, and even a RPG.

The combat looks great, the amount of customization in the game from your power armor (advanced power armor helmet FTW) to settlements is just mind blowing. But then there are things like the voiced player character (more so a personal issue), the atrocious dialogue system, talk of removed SKILLS. I'm just afraid to know how they managed that and how that's going to work.

But...eh...

Did anybody notice the part where the PC OPENED the Power Armored suit and actually got inside? Like a tank? And did anybody see the part where the Deathclaw picked you up with one hand and attacked you with the other? This is going to be sooooooo good.
