Fallout 2 G.E.C.K. problem

Post » Sun Oct 24, 2010 7:43 pm

I've been playing Fallout 1 and 2 again for kicks, and I ran into an issue I've never encountered before. SPOILER AHEAD for anyone who hasn't played Fallout 2: I managed to bring the G.E.C.K. back to my village before the Enclave came and took everyone. However, the Elder keeps telling me to stop wasting time and bring her the G.E.C.K.! The villagers keep telling me to stop coming back without it, and the medicine man (I won't try to spell his name) is there, but he goes through the dying speach you normally get when you come back after the Enclave tears through. What gives? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

afaik, the enclave are supposed to show up as soon as you take the geck, however quickly you manage to get it. You seem to be caught in a bug where despite you getting the geck, the game hasn't noticed...

How/where did you get it, and are you using the unofficial patch or any other mods?

No patches or mods. Since I've played it several times before, I knew where to go. I wanted to try to make it back before the Enclave arrived because I've never managed it before. I basically went to NCR as fast as I could, where you get The Squat/Vault 15 quest. Plus, I hit San Francisco so I could get the location of the Enclave base. I went there first. You can basically walk right in and get power armor and all kinds of weapons. I went back to the Squat/Valut 15 and cleared out the gang in there, and used a computer to get Vault 13's location. In Vault 13 there is a G.E.C.K, which I brought back to the village. As I was bringing it back, I got the second dream message saying for me to hurry, but I made it back before the Enclave arrived. I was pretty happy about it, until the glitch happend.

The problem of course being that one isn't supposed to be able to make it back before the Enclave descend on Arroyo.

It would have been quite amusing if by managing it one finished the game with an "and everyone lived happily ever after" message. Ahem.

No patches or mods.

That's your problem...your game should at least have the latest official patch...and as others have mentioned, you shouldn't be able to save the village from the Enclave attack...so your glitch isn't that people don't recognize that you have the GECK, but rather that you can talk to them at all after having acquired it

Yeah, I probably should have patched it huh? Oh well. I thought it might be just be the game and not a glitch, but I wasn't sure. I guess the poor village is doomed after all. Thanks for everyone's comments!

Without the patch there's a staggering number of bugs in the game, particularly involving the car!
