Backstory:

Long before there was ever a possibility of global nuclear war, there was an underground complex built to sequester humanity's greatest beneath the dessert lowlands of Southern California. Research and Development from every government sector teamed up with private corporations to create the greatest cultural science library and information retrieval facility the world had ever dreamed of.

Its purpose gradually evolved over the decades, from the war with Hitler, to the Cold war, to the Oil crisis... When the Middle East conflict burst into white atomic flame in 2052, Project Brazil took on a newly invigorated effort to drill deeper, to develop faster, and by 2060, when the oil finally ceased to flow, it became America's last best hope for humanity.

On 23 October, 2077, the bombs fell. There were over six thousand residents inside the deep Vault.

Construction was incomplete, but the system was fully functional. Many residents who could not be supported were frozen in carbon. Others resisted. A new government was formed out of the discontent people both horrified and nostalgic for their world left behind.

Two hundred years have past...

Now, after two centuries of politics, science, revolt, war, life and love, the residents of Brazil face an uncertain future. The vault doors have been open for years. Trade with the outside world has bolstered the economy and living conditions of an aristocratic upper class, while a beleaguered populace is monitored and chastised by an authoritarian bureaucracy.

This is how you arrive. From out of the wastes, four factions have risen up to take control of the shattered paradise beneath the New California Republic.

1. The Brotherhood of Steel desire to return to the vaults and cease control of the vast stores of technology and resources locked away by the inhabitants and their maddeningly efficient government. They don't care about the people, only about their ideal of a better future under their control. You are hired to infiltrate the vault and gather intelligence on a possible invasion. How that will turn out is up to your sense of morality and judgment.

2. The Enclave have also set their sights on taking control of Brazil in the name of The United States of America and your president, John Henry Eden. It is your job to don your advanced power armour, your mini gun, and with your team of shock troops, liquidate the resistance at any cost.

3. The Ministry of Information has been watching your progress across the wastes very carefully. They know you are from one of the few unaffected vaults, and they want you for a number of unknown reasons. You are contracted to work your way up the administration's ranks from beat cop, to Repo-Man, to Stormtrooper, and finally as an Information Retrieval Officer. Throughout, it will be your job to find threats to the Administration and the Ministry, and help prevent both terrorist activity and foreign invasion by the above ground forces.

4. While wandering the waste land, you pick up a static laced radio transmission. A man named Darien is on the other side, and through your repair ingenuity, you build a two way radio to communicate with him. He and a man named Twisted Major Tom Glorious guide you to the besieged entrance beneath the old Santa Monica, and forge your entry papers to get past the guards. A force of super mutants attack just before you arrive, trashing the gates, and following you down the shaft is a small force of Enclave power armours. Out gunned, it is your job to book it past the blockade under Tom's guidance, to run like you never have before through the Main Shaft, and hide in the Merchant Quarter before the myriad forces can catch you. The above ground forces want to destroy the vault, the Brotherhood wants to steal it, and you have help the rebels resist the Ministry before the people face an even darker fate.

---

Your Story:

You will face the difficult task of escaping the destruction of your childhood home, Vault 18, as either an Athlete or a Nerd. Once you've escaped the Nuclear detonation, you and a small band of survivors must wander the Black Bear Mountains, facing not only the Enclave troops which destroyed your home, but the Raiders, Trogs, Hill People and feral ghouls which rampage in hoards through the burnt forests and ruined mountain community. You must scavenge food, medicine, shelter, weapons and ammunition from the ruins, and escape the mountain on your way towards the mythical underground city of "Brazil."

After traveling the highways you arrive in Venice Beach California, where a group of beach-side Wastelanders need help defending their home from a band of Super Mutants and their new Enclave allies. Once you and your band survive the fire fight, you are allowed entry to the protected underground gate to the old Santa Monica metro line, leading to Project Brazil. Raiders and thieves assault you there, but you find a few strange allies along the way as well. They help you gain entry to the shattered Downtown, where the gates of Project Brazil are guarded by Ministry soldiers and Information Officers.

By now, you have chosen your path into the fabled city, either as an Enclave Storm Trooper, a Brazilian Rebel/Brotherhood Spy or a Ministry Recruit. The fate of your followers is up to the events you help shape.

The Ministry has branded you "Number 18a," and checked your papers into their registry. You have been scoured clean by their health inspectors, your background and testimony collected, and all relevant information regarding your origins checked and filed. Once inside the Upper Vault, there is nowhere for you to hide. The Underground City of Brazil has been locked down, and the shaft leading there is heavily guarded. If you and your fellow survivors want to escape to this supposed paradise beneath the Earth, you will have to sneak, fight, navigate and talk your way through the back channels of the complex, snaking down through the most dangerous quarters and sections. You will have to tip-toe across bridges spanning giant chasms, dodge motion tracking turrets, escape talking death-claws and a flesh-eating mold, travel through a section literally fragmented into different pieces of time and space, escape a prison work camp, battle aliens held in captivity, swim through nuclear powered turbines, battle Ministry soldiers, and finally enter the shattered city below.

Recruitment Threads on: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1101470-fallout-3-project-brazil-help-wanted/, http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=215481, http://www.f3underground.com/topic/5872-fallout-3-project-brazil-help-wanted/. These topics have gained me no support, so I'm resorting to sending messages to individual modders.

I am more than willing to devote my time for collaboration, as long as Brazil gets a few extra areas or scripts donated as a result.

Holy crap! And I thought MY cells looked good. Some of those pictures look incredible!! I have NEVER seen a mod that adds a city with lots of buildings underground before! This looks really really really awsome! I would help you out, but I am in the middle of a rather large project myself. :/ But I really hope you keep going. It looks really good. How long have you been working on it? It must have taken forever to make some of those places and clutter them. Wow I cant say much more except that is super awsome. I would be more than willing to alpha test if you need someone too, but like I said, I am devoting all my working time to my mod. How many people are working on the mod right now? Is it a whole team or just you?

@ Gunmaster95

Thank you very much for the praise sir! I've been hammering away at Brazil for 10 months. I took a 4 month unwanted vacation due to a hard drive crash/life crisis.

Tomorrow or the day after I will release a new Pre-Alpha build for download. If you like what you see in GECK, feel free to add a few areas to a separate .esp and send it to me! If you like, as I haven't seen your project yet, we might do a collaboration. I am doing one such collaboration with A Quest for Heaven 2, where character and back-story is found littered through both of our mods in notes and terminals. I'm working alone on this one outside of my fellow writers, over a dozen eager voice actors, and occasional community support through resources.

The Urbanite (Underground City) needs a total overhaul. I've barely touched it in two months. I've rebuilt it three times now, and have decided to break it up into far smaller areas I'm afraid - you currently cannot navigate it in game. There will be a network of large rooms and sub cavers, as well as a couple huge buildings - probably lots of cut and paste work on that I'm afraid, but it will still be interesting. I really, really need the extra boost on my interiors. I'm starting to get the sensation of being way behind on my deadline. After about 5 Help Wanted topics across the net, no one has signed on. I'm doing a couple collaborations for trade, but that also is time consuming, and its hard to get quality work done when dividing one's time. I'm going to help the Alton,IL Mod once this alpha is released.

I haven't resorted to PMing other modders yet, but I'm getting there.

@ PhiniusMaster

Thank you very much! The Highway isn't quite ready yet. It needs a ton of work as of yet, so tomorrows release will just skip over it... haha?

You are free to hop onto the GECK and help work on the areas - it's great practice adapting existing material from vanilla. I do need a ton of help with my exteriors and interiors both, and am looking very hard for support. The highway will be handled much like the Dantooien areas of Kotor - modular canyons. Not very difficult work but it does allow for amazing amounts of engaging details and game-play.

Cheers!

Well, I think all the people that can make stuff as high quality as your mod are making their own. :/ You can peek at my mod if you want, just search for Project Genesis. (I dont want to advertise too much here :P)

Perhaps if I make alot of progress on my mod, or finish it early I can help with yours. When do you plan to release it by? I am getting mine out by the release of NV. If I finished before then, I will gladly join up and help you do all aspects of level design. Scripting, quests, dialog, interiors, exteriors. I have a vast amount of experience in most, if not all, areas of the GECK. (Except LOD, which I have yet to conquer for my worldspace)

Once again, looking through the screenshots on the nexus, you have a truely incredible level design ability. Everything looks just fantastic! So I will make sure to let you know if I have the time to help, since so few have the ability to make truely great things like this.

I...I must have this. I praise people who can take on such a project and actually continue it. Even in alpha it looks so great. Though, when New Vegas comes out you should be able to easily create more alive cities.

Thank you both for the comments. It's very encouraging.

@gunmaster96 - I just left you a reply on Project Genesis! Best of luck, sir!
