I have reached a point in the game, between quests, where I would like to address the concerns of my setlements. Up to now, I have had problems getting the appropriate resources in the same place when I want to build stuff, but have wrapped my head around the game enough to know that you need the resources handy to build something.
I now have a number of newer settlements that say they need water. I have successfully built water pumps and water filtration systems in my older settlements already and it worked fine.
Here is the problem: Now (and I do not know what changed to cause this) I cannot build water resources. When I select a water pump in the Workshop screen -> Resources -> Water -> Water pump, the top right box confirmss that I have all the necessary materials (all green), but the red/green highlighted image of the pump does not appear so that I can not place it anywhere. I know that a water pup must be placed in the dirt, but the highlighted mage should at least appear in red to show if I am in the wrong spot. The same thing happens for water filtration systems also, but doesn't matter since the settlements I am trying to bring water to do not have open water to put them.
Other construction items work fine in the same locations. I can build Wood and Steel (prefabs, floors, walls, etc.) and electrical (generators and radio antennae) and defense (turrets, spotlights, guardposts) perfectly fine. It is just the water resources that are doing this.
What I have tried so far:
- closing Workshop screen and re-entering
- fast travelling to aother location and fast travelling back
- saving game, quitting, restarting game and continuing
- saving game, leaving PS4 in rest mode and coming back
Nothing so far has worked and my settlers are still thirsty.
Update; I tried saving game, shutting down PS4 entirely and coming back and everything works fine.
