Fallout 4 Radio DJs and the Legacy of Three Dog

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 11:30 am

I don't know about you, but I think that so far the Fallout 4 radio DJs pale in comparison to Galaxy News Radio's Three Dog. He was epic, funny and sounded legit, but the DJs in this game just sound like some random guy talking on Team Speak. In fact, the first time I heard one of the Fallout 4 DJs was when I walked in on my son playing, and at first it sounded like somebody was game-chatting with him over XBOX Live. Then I realized ... oh, that's just a Fallout 4 DJ. Apparently they spared no expense on DJ talent.

Can we get a petition to bring back Three Dog, maybe in a DLC?

I thought he was in Washington DC and correct me if I am wrong, wasn't he killable? The timeline does work though, it has only been 10 years. Maby he could come back but be secretly a Synth but so can any character.

The companions were also killable in Fallout 3, but aren't in Fallout 4, so that may not be a factor in this game.

A potential DLC could involve Three Dog setting up shop in this area, and you helping him to get that done, maybe by building transmitters / repeaters throughout the area. Maybe he's on the run? Maybe his old Galaxy News Radio base was destroyed? Maybe he just wants to spread the gospel of Three Dog? I think there's something there, should Bethesda choose to pursue it.

maby if you find out he is really a Synth or you could just say he is so likable that not alot of people wanted to kill him so he is alive (personally I would never kill him)

I like the Diamond City DJ better than Three Dog, before or after his quest. But then, I couldn't stand Three Dog and his constant airwave stalking of my character.

Still, I doubt very seriously we will ever hear from Three Dog again. I think the voice actor burned his bridges with Bethesda when he made that tweet about the possibility of Three Dog returning.

I can think of about a million things they should be working on fixing before spending time trying to relive old material. Secondly, the DLC should be all new material, not something from the old game.

Lastly, you clearly haven't done Travis's missions. The way the DJ sounds on Diamond City Radio is actually on purpose.

maby a different voice actor can play as him, not that hard to find a new one.

I want a radio station where Three Dog and Travis fight over the mic.

I can see it now: A DLC where you have to take over Galaxy News Radio (its the Gunners main base in Fallout 4 remember) and set up a new radio station with all new songs even if it doesn't include Three Dog.

Couldn't hurt to have more songs, recycling half the soundtrack from previous games didn't go down to well with a lot of people.

Part of the reason why so many liked Three Dog was because of his voice actor. It'd be ridiculous to bring the character back only to have him voiced by somebody else without his charisma.

However, OP, I still believe they could bring him back if they wanted to. There's a ton of reasons to make it possible. Heck, Zimmer could even return from Washington DC having met with Three Dog, and when he gets back to the Institute, he has them develop a synth Three Dog. Although not the real one, but close enough, no? Of course, the canon ending to The Replicated Man quest in Fallout 3 would have to either be Harkness being found by the Institute (unlikely, can't see the LW turning him in), or the more likely option, Zimmer returning to the Institute having not being able to have found his synth.

In addition, just because Three Dog was killable in Fallout 3, doesn't mean the Lone Wanderer killed him. Canonically, Three Dog could still be very much alive.

While I did get a tad tired of 3Dog in FO3, I have to admit he was a real presence in the game, and you knew when he took the mic. Travis, on the other hand, is so soft spoken and uninteresting that I usually don't even notice when he's saying something. Whether he has any interesting lines or stuff to say, I don't really know, because his voice and utter lack of presence cause me to basically ignore him whenever he is on. Despite 3Dog's annoying traits, as a DJ who got your attention and made GNR a real part of the gameworld, I have to give him a 9/10. Travis? I'll be generous with a 4/10.

For an easier approach they could just have a relay you can activate which connects Boston to Washington... Would be easy and allow for the Three Dog personality without actually bringing him into the game, which I personally think is unnecessary.

i liked mr new vegas a lot. the half drunk timbre suited the music well :-)

for travis: travis "after" is, well, ok. kind of sounds like a sober mr new vegas imitator :-)

now though, i'm on my 2nd playthrough and haven't done his quest yet (which i did pretty early in my 1st game), and so i've been listening to travis "before" for quite a while now - and what can i say: travis "before" is really GOOD :-) hope i find an option in his dialogue to keep him like this and stil do the quest...

True. The DJ's in F4 are kind of boring, although Travis does get better after his questlines.

As to 3 Dog. He was fine, but I, personally am not really a fan of the "Stupid" "Loud" DJ's and that's exactly what he was. Frankly, if I wanted Wolfman Jack, I'd go back to 1955.

The DJ that drives me nuts is the stupid Minuteman DJ repeating the same thing over and over and over. Drives me nuts, so I never visit the Castle. Apparently it's so bad that Preston has moved back to Sanctuary where he belongs. I like him there.

I found Three Dog really obnoxious but that might just be because his station had fewer songs on it so he talked a lot more, or seemed to anyway. The songs themselves were also generally much poorer quality.

My favorite radio has been from New Vegas.

I do a lot of work out of the Castle, and I never hear the guy. If you turn off the speaker at the broadcast tower and never tune in the station on your Pip-boy you never have to hear him at all.

I never listen to Freedom Radio. It's not the DJ, it's the music. If anyone ever creates a mod that turns it into a rock station or something, I'll be all over it.

Travis is amazing. I'm glad they didn't try and outdo Three Dog at his own game, and went with the most hilariously uncharismatic radio DJ ever. It's hilarious. And he's still funny after his quest, too.

:c but I love the Freedom Fiddle. I could listen to it all day... in fact, I might have. So relaxing. (while we're talking about radio stations, is it weird that I only learned yesterday that the Settlement Recruitment Beacon plays music? It even has a message recorded by the player character!)

I find it quite the opposite. I found Three Dog to be obnoxious and tried too hard to sound funny to the point of which it was painfully unfunny. Much prefer Travis, both before and after his quest.

There was radio in NV? Don't even remember it. Therefore, it wasn't memorable at all.

I did not know you could turn off the speakers. I am going to do that. Thank you.

While I do love classical music, don't get me wrong, we already have a classical station. We don't need more.

I agree, what we need is a good ole 50's style rock and roll station.
